- Abstract
Classroom climate is an important factor in the teaching and learning process. Both physical and psychological aspects of the classroom should be conducive to learning. Less number of students, student-teacher ratio and undivided attention of the teachers have a great influence on students' academic performance. The study is conducted to find out whether gender has any impact on the performance of teachers in classrooms and their qualifications based on the subject they studied have any influence on their teaching. Experience enhances everybody's learning. So, the teaching experience is an important factor that should be considered in managing a class. This study is done with 150 teachers selected from 10 higher secondary schools from the Kancheepuram district. A simple random technique is used to collect the sample. The teaching experience is classified as below 5 years and above 5 years. The tool, Classroom climate inventory, is standardised by the investigator. T-test and Correlation were used to analyse data.

- Abstract
Purpose: This paper aims to identify and test four competing models with the interrelationships between students' perceived service quality, students' satisfaction, loyalty and motivation using structural equation modeling (SEM), and to select the best model using chi-square difference (??2) statistic test. Design/methodology/approach: The study uses survey research design to gather data regarding attitudes of students about quality of services and their level of satisfaction, motivation and loyalty. A total of 1,439 valid questionnaires were collected from four public universities in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India, and the relationships between four variables using SEM are tested. Findings: The structural model with direct and indirect relationships between the constructs proves as a best among the competing models. The result supported direct effect of students' perceived service quality on students' satisfaction and motivation; and indirect effect on students' loyalty. Implications and research contributions are discussed and directions for further research are indicated. Research limitations/implications: The study considers the examinations of the simple bivariate relationships between service quality, satisfaction, motivation and loyalty may mask or overstate their true relationships due to omitted variable bias. Structural theory with simultaneous measurement of the direct and indirect relationships between students' perceived service quality, satisfaction, motivation and loyalty adds a unique contribution to the existing field of knowledge, especially higher education sector. Practical implications: The results of SEM show that the service quality is a key antecedent to students' satisfaction, loyalty and motivation. Motivating students for present and future studies with better participation in the process is important to increase quality and efficiency in their output. The best services also make students loyal to the institution. The findings suggested that it would be worthwhile for university's administration to make proper allocation of resources, to provide better educational services. It is believed that this study has a significant competence for engendering more precise applications related to quality of services, especially concerning students' satisfaction, loyalty and motivation. Social implications: The research provides significant insights and demonstrates good understanding of students' perceived service quality in the context of Indian universities. The changing nature and need of higher education services and increase in competitive intensity necessitates higher performance levels in the realm of Indian higher education (universities). The study identified that students' perceived service quality is a key antecedent to students' satisfaction, motivation and loyalty, which conveys that service quality is an important construct. Originality/value: Several points are addressed based on the models identified in the study. First, there is sufficient evidence of a significant bivariate relationship between service quality, satisfaction, loyalty and motivation. Second, although service quality is an important determinant of loyalty, the exact nature of this relationship remains unresolved. Third, it is evident that very few studies have investigated multiple direct links between service quality, satisfaction, motivation and loyalty. Further, there is no reported investigation of whether any or all of these variables directly and indirectly influence loyalty when the effects of service quality, satisfaction, motivation are simultaneously considered in Indian higher education sector. Therefore, to present a more pragmatic picture of these relationships, the study identified the "collective model" that investigates the underlying relationships that exist among these constructs.

The role of cytochrome P450 monooxygenase in pyrethroid resistance was studied in different strains of the cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera, from India. Filed collected strains of Nagpur and Delhi were compared to the laboratory reared population. The results showed a high resistance to deltamethrin, α-cypermethrin, and β-cyfluthrin. The results also showed that this resistance could be reduced by using piperonyl butoxide (PBO). The Nagpur and Delhi strains were found to have a 2.40 and 1.79 fold higher monooxygenase activity compared to a susceptible strain. A strong, positive correlation between monooxygenase activity and pyrethroid resistance was observed (r = 0.86 - 0.98). The relative expression of the housekeeping gene, EF-1α, and three P450 genes, was studied in the 5th instar larval midgut of the three strains. Out of the three P450 genes examined, expression of CYP6B7 mRNA was not detected in the midgut of the susceptible strain though it was highly expressed in the resistant strains. The midgut of the Nagpur strain had a 2.60 fold overexpression of CYP6B7 mRNA compared to the moderately resistant, Delhi strain. The mRNA of CYP4G8 and CYP6B2 were not overexpressed in either the Nagpur or Delhi strain. The results indicated that the elevated cytochrome P450 monooxygenase activity is associated with pyrethroid resistance in Indian strains of H. armigera, and CYP6B7 could be the P450 form responsible for pyrethroid resistance. Abstract: We document the effects of group affiliation on the initial performance of 2,713 initial public offerings (IPOs) in India under three regulatory regimes during the period 1990–2004. We distinguish between two competing hypotheses regarding group affiliation: the “certification” and the “tunneling” hypotheses. We lend support to the latter by showing that the underpricing of business group companies is higher than that of stand-alone companies. Furthermore, we find that the long-run performance of IPOs, in general, is negative. We also find that Indian investors over-react to IPOs and their over-reaction (proxied by the oversubscription rate) explains the extent of underpricing. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The essay sets out to re-examine the relations between Catholics and Muslims in the Mughal court in the early seventeenth century, during the reign of Emperor Jahangir (r. 1605-27). It does so by confronting two sets of source—materials, namely the letters of the Jesuit Jerónimo Xavier and Persian—language texts from the Mughal court. In particular it focuses on the important and neglected figure of Maulana Abdus Sattar ibn Qasim Lahauri, an intellectual who worked with and also studied the Europeans. The recent publication of a hitherto unknown text by him, under the title of Majālis-i Jahāngīrī is in part the occasion for us to return to this classic theme in the historiography of cross-cultural encounters. ADVENTURE & adventurers ,CIVIL service ,SOCIAL alienation - Abstract
The article seeks to re-examine the career and work of a celebrated 'adventurer' of the seventeenth and early eighteenth century, the Venetian Nicolò Manucci (1638-c. 1720). Manucci's work, translated into English in the early tweńtieth century by William Irvine of the Indian Civil Service, but never published hz the original, has evoked much controversy over the years. Some have treated it as a valuable and authentic source on events in Mughal India and elsewhere, while others--notably historians of music and culture--have pointed to its flagrant inaccuracies and exaggerations. In recent times, some have also claimed for it the status of a history of popular perceptions of the Mughal dynasty. This article returns, as it were, to the sources, looking to the original manuscripts that Manucci left, as well as recent and valuable research conducted on him by Italian scholars. A complex portrait emerges of a tortuous and fascinating career in which alienation is a central theme. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article reflects on the first part of the memoirs of a late eighteenth-century Mugbal prince. Mirza 'Ali Bakht Azfari, who was held prisoner in Shahjahanabad-Delhi until well into his adult years. Later, after he had made his escape from there and gone on after long travels to settle in the territories of the Nawwab of Arcot, Azfari had occasion to look back on his days as an imprisoned prince in a sort of gilded cage. His backward glance takes in such questions as astrology, the thaumaturgical character of members of the Mughal lineage, and other issues--some of which are peculiar to him, while others seem to have been shared in the milieu from which he came. The work thus allows us to reflect on the mental world and categories of political reflection of a would-be Mughal statesman, who never quite managed to seize the reins of power. PLANT parasites ,GIANT African snail ,MULBERRY diseases & pests - Abstract
The article discusses the severe infestation by giant African snails of Karnataka's Ramanagaram district during the monsoon season from July until December 2010. It cites reports of other outbreaks which also brought considerable damage to various horticultural and commercial crops aside from mulberry gardens, particularly the K.P. Doddi Silk Farm. It recommends several measures to control the relatively new pest for mulberry plants such as regular cleaning of sewage canals or river banks near mulberry farms, and manual picking of the snails.
