We report the first record of the White-bellied flying squirrel Petaurista albiventer (Gray, 1834) within the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, which is part of the Terai Arc Landscape in India. This marks a new geographical distribution for P. albiventer within the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This study contributes to the understanding of the geographical distribution, habitat ecology and taxonomy of the genus Petaurista (Link, 1795), shedding light on its presence in various ecologically significant regions and emphasizing the importance of preserving its habitat and promoting further research. With the emergence of industry 4.0, several elements of the supply chain are transforming through the adoption of smart technologies such as blockchain, the internet of things and cyber-physical systems. Logistics is considered one of the important elements of supply chain management and its digital transformation is crucial to the success of industry 4.0. In this circumstance, the existing logistics system needs to be upgraded with industry 4.0 technologies and emerge as logistics 4.0. However, the adoption/transformation of logistics 4.0 is dependent on several determinants that need to be explored. Therefore, this study has the prime objective of investigating the determinants of logistics 4.0 adoption in the context of a developing country, specifically, India. Initially, ten determinants of logistics 4.0 are established after a survey of the relevant literature and the input of industry experts. Further, a four-level structural model is developed among these determinants using the Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) approach. In addition, a fuzzy Matrix of Cross-Impact Multiplications Applied to Classification (MICMAC) analysis is also conducted for the categorization of these determinants as per their driving and dependence power. The findings show that top management supports, information technology infrastructure and financial investment are the most significant determinants towards logistics 4.0 adoption. This study facilitates the supply chain partners to focus on these high-level determinants for the effective adoption of logistics 4.0. Moreover, the findings lead to a more in-depth insight into the determinants that influence logistics 4.0 and their significance in logistics 4.0 adoption in emerging economies. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a polygenic metabolic disease described by hyperglycemia, which is caused by insulin resistance or reduced insulin secretion. The interaction between various genetic variants and environmental factors triggers T2DM. The aim of this study was to find risk associated with genetic variants rs5210 and rs2237895 of KCNJ11 and KCNQ1 genes, respectively, in the development of T2DM in the Indian population. A total number of 300 cases of T2DM and 100 control samples were studied to find the polymorphism in KCNJ11 and KCNQ1 through PCR-RFLP. The genotype and allele frequencies in T2DM cases were significantly different compared to the control population. KCNJ11 rs5210 and KCNQ1 rs2237895 variants were found to be significantly associated with risk of T2DM in dominant (KCNJ11: OR, 2.07; 95% CI, 1.30–3.27; p − 0.001 ; KCNQ1: OR, 2.33; 95% CI, 1.46–3.70; p − 0.0003) and codominant models (KCNJ11: OR, 1.76; 95% CI, 1.09–2.84; p − 0.020 ; KCNQ1: OR, 1.85; 95% CI, 1.16–2.95; p − 0.009). We also compared clinicopathological characteristics between cases and control and observed a significant difference in all the parameters except HDL, gender, and family history. In this study, clinicopathological data with a carrier of a variant allele of both KCNJ11 and KCNQ1 genes were also analysed, and a significant association was found between the carrier of a variant allele with gender and PPG in KCNJ11 and with triglyceride in KCNQ1. We confirm the significant association of KCNJ11 (rs5210) and KCNQ1 (rs2237895) gene polymorphism with T2DM, indicating the role of these variants in developing risk for T2DM in Indian population. Introduction: Hajj is an annual mass gathering of over 3.5 million pilgrims congregating from 200 countries in the desert climate of Saudi Arabia. Mass gathering medicine at Hajj is challenged by issues of healthcare accessibility, infection control, on-site treatment, referral, evacuation, and response to disasters and public health emergencies. The Indian Medical Mission at Hajj 2016 established, operated, and coordinated a strategic network of mass gathering medical operations, the proceeds of which are discussed herein. Methods: The mission was designed to provide holistic health security through health intelligence for pre-existing chronic diseases, epidemic intelligence for endemic and exotic diseases, public-health and disaster-health preparedness, and tiered healthcare through mobile medical task forces, static clinics, tent clinics, secondary care hospitals, and evacuation capabilities. Results: Primary care, secondary care, and tertiary care treated 374 475, 930, and 523 patients, respectively. Patients exhibited limited compliance with pre-instituted treatments and precautionary protocols. Respiratory and gastrointestinal infections, cardiorespiratory, trauma, and heat illnesses were seen. Epidemic intelligence revealed an outbreak of food poisoning. Respiratory infections were reported by 90% of the healthcare personnel. Surge capacity was overwhelmed with patient throughput and ambulance transfers. Crude unadjusted mortality was 11.99/10 000. Conclusion: The Indian Medical Mission at Hajj 2016 yielded solutions to the challenges faced during the 2016 Hajj pilgrimage. The mission posture of the Indian Medical Mission in Hajj presents a modus operandi for handling crisis scenarios in mass gathering. • The potential application of overburnt brick has been shown for inverted pavement. • Fly ash can be used in the subbase of inverted pavement using cement stabilization. • Response spectrum method has been utilized for pavement thickness optimization. The scarcity of natural aggregate required for infrastructural development (including road construction) is a global problem. Therefore, researchers have constantly been exploring the possibility of different kinds of non-conventional aggregate for sustainable road construction. In this context, over-burnt brick is one among the most common wastes from the construction industry in India, which can be utilized as non-conventional aggregates in the granular layer of pavement structure with the help of a stabilization technique. Pavement structure containing stabilized/cementitious underlying base/sub-base layer is termed as inverted pavement (asphalt layer supported by a relatively stiffer stabilized layer). Attempts have been made in the past to utilize over-burnt brick as an alternative aggregate in different types of pavement structures. However, whether such over-burnt aggregate can be utilized in the stabilized layer of the inverted pavement structure is still unknown. Therefore, this research aimed to explore the potential application of over-burnt brick with the help of stabilization using a cement-fly ash mixture for the base layer of inverted pavement. Likewise, the mixture of fly ash and cement mixture was investigated for their potential application in the subbase layer of the inverted pavement structure. The optimal quantity of cement in both layers for stabilization was initially determined based on strength and durability criteria. Finally, the inverted pavement was analyzed based on the design of experiment approach using the response surface methodology. The analysis of strength and durability components indicated that cement content equal to 6% for brick-fly ash mixture is suitable for the base layer of the inverted pavement. Likewise, cement content equal to 7% with fly ash was found to be suitable for its application in the sub-base layer. Abstract: No study in the past has examined the genetic diversity and zoonotic potential of Giardia duodenalis in dairy cattle in India. To assess the importance of these animals as a source of human G. duodenalis infections and determine the epidemiology of bovine giardiasis in India, fecal samples from 180 calves, heifers and adults and 51 dairy farm workers on two dairy farms in West Bengal, India were genotyped by PCR-RFLP analysis of the β-giardin gene of G. duodenalis followed by DNA sequencing of the nested PCR products. The overall prevalence of G. duodenalis in cattle was 12.2% (22/180), the infection being more prevalent in younger calves than in adult cattle. Zoonotic G. duodenalis Assemblage A1 was identified in both calves and workers although the most prevalent genotype detected in cattle was a novel Assemblage E subgenotype. These findings clearly suggest that there is a potential risk of zoonotic transmission of G. duodenalis infections between cattle and humans on dairy farms in India. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Few studies in the past have examined the genetic diversity and zoonotic potential of Cryptosporidium in dairy cattle in India. To assess the importance of these animals as a source of human Cryptosporidium infections, fecal samples from 180 calves, heifers and adults and 51 farm workers on two dairy farms in West Bengal, India were genotyped by PCR-RFLP analysis of the 18S rRNA gene of Cryptosporidium followed by DNA sequencing of the PCR products. Phylogenetic analysis was carried out on the DNA sequences obtained in the study and those available in GenBank. The overall prevalence of Cryptosporidium in cattle was 11.7% though the infection was more prevalent in younger calves than in adult cattle. The occurrence of Cryptosporidium parvum, Cryptosporidium bovis, Cryptosporidium ryanae and Cryptosporidium andersoni in cattle followed an age-related pattern. A Cryptosporidium suis-like genotype was also detected in a calf. Farm workers were infected with Cryptosporidium hominis, C. parvum and a novel C. bovis genotype. These findings clearly suggest that there is a potential risk of zoonotic transmission of Cryptosporidium infections between cattle and humans on dairy farms in India. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
