A new species of tarsonemid mite, Steneotarsonemus banshi Karmakar, Ganguly & Mondal sp. nov. collected from the Maling bamboo, Yushania maling (Poaceae) is described with illustrations of adult females and males. The new species is from the northern hill zone of West Bengal, India, and is the fifth species of the genus Steneotarsonemus known from India. The species shares several similarities with S. acricorn, but it differs by the shape of the cheliceral bases, the apodemal structures and the tegula and flange shapes. The article offers information on John Reade Cambell's diving dress which was patented on April 18, 1834. According to the article, the improvements of Cambell's patented product include original helmet made by a dome of glass attached to a copper band which was attacked to a copper flange. The flange was big enough for the diver to enter feet first. The suit itself was made from India rubber or gum elastic. Despite the improvements, the article notes that the glass dome can be easily damaged or broken, which poses danger to the diver and that there was no method for overcoming the buoyancy of the dress.
