The article presents a short account of the first orthopteran recorded from the Middle Jurassic Kota Formation of India representing a female forewing of Protogryllidae. It notes that female protogryllid tegmina usually show poorly diagnostic characters while only male protogryllids show highly diagnosotic tegminal vein modifications that confer strigulatory abilities in extant gryllids. A Nikon D1 x digital camera attached to an Infinity K-2 long-distance microscope lens was used for preparing the photomicrographs while a camera lucida and ocular micrometer on an Olympus SZX-12 stereomicroscope were used to help prepare illustrations and measurements.
