Introduction: Double burden of malnutrition (DBM) has been recognized by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as an emerging Global Syndemic characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of both undernutrition and overnutrition. Women of the reproductive age group (15 to 49 years) are disproportionately affected by DBM and are at high risk of continuing the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. This study aims to assess the changing trends and determinants of DBM among women of the reproductive age group in India. Materials and methods: We used data from three rounds of National Family Health Surveys (NFHS-3,4,5) conducted in years 2005–06, 2015–16, and 2019–2021. Descriptive statistics and Poisson regression analysis were done using weights with log link function. Results: The prevalence of anaemia, underweight and overweight/obesity was 57.2%, 18.6% and 24% respectively. The combined burden of underweight and anaemia has declined by 46% (21.6% to 11.7%), whereas the combined burden of overweight/obesity and anaemia has increased by 130% (5.4% to 12.4%) in the past 15 years. The prevalence of DBM, which includes both underweight and overweight/obesity with anaemia was 24.1% in 2021, a decline of 11% in 15 years. Women who were younger, rural, less educated, poor and middle class, and women living in the eastern, western and southern regions of India had higher risk for being underweight with anaemia and lower risk for developing overweight/obesity with anaemia. Conclusion: The significant decrease in underweight yet enormous increase in overweight/obesity over the past 15 years with the persistence of anaemia in both ends of the nutritional spectrum is characteristic of the new nutritional reality emphasizing the need to address malnutrition in all its forms. It is critical to consider geography and a population specific, double-duty targeted intervention to holistically address the risk factors associated with DBM and accomplish India's commitment to the global agenda of Sustainable Development Goals-2030. Background: Colposcopy has a key role to play in see-and-treat programs for premalignant cervical lesions. The aim of the study/was to observe cervical changes with a colposcope using the Swede scoring system in fertile age group women using various contraceptives: conventional methods (barrier methods, coitus interruptus), oral contraceptives (OCPs), copper-T and bilateral tubectomy. The aim of the study was to observe and evaluate the colposcopic findings using the Swede scoring system for the diagnosis of premalignant/malignant lesions in reproductive age group women using various contraceptives. Methods: This was a prospective observational study, conducted among 200 women of reproductive age group using various contraceptives in a tertiary care institute in North India. PAP smear, direct visual examination, VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) examination, colposcopic examination, and (biopsy if indicated) were done. The data were collected, and analysis was done using Microsoft Excel Office Software 2019 version 19.11 and epi info (CDC Atlanta) 7.23.1. Statistical analysis was done using percentages, mean, mode, median, standard deviation, Chi-square, Fisher's Test, and Anova Test. Results: We found positive PAP (Papanicolaou test) smears in 61.50%, positive VIA examination in 9%, and positive findings in colposcopic examination in 28.50%, Swede score of 0–3 in 100% (0–91%, 1–2%, 2–6%, and 3–1%) and positive biopsy in 9% subjects. Malignant findings were observed in 1.00% of PAP smears. Colposcopic findings were CIN 1 (cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 1) in 8.5% and CIN 2 in 0.5% subjects. Swede score was zero in 91%, 1 in 2%, 2 in 6%, and 3 in 1% of subjects. HPE (histopathological examination) was chronic cervicitis in 8.50% and mild dysplasia/CIN 1 in 0.5%. No significant statistical associations between contraceptive choice and false-positive test results or disease prevalence was found in any group except Cu-T users p = 0.0184 (especially for CIN 2; p = 0.0109 and CIN 1 more in all groups than Cu-T users). Colposcopy had sensitivity 100%, specificity 91.46% (0/0 = 0%) PPV = 5.56%, NPV = 100%, Accuracy = 91.5% for detecting mild dysplasia/CIN-non-significant (p = 0.055). Our study had mainly low-grade lesions with 100% NPV. With increase in Swede Score, sensitivity increases but at the expense of specificity but it was statistically non-significant (p = 0.055). Conclusions: Our study may guide the rational use of colposcopy with Swede scoring for see-and-treat lesions, which is easy and with a low learning curve, as a tool for diagnosis but only in cases where indicated like unhealthy cervix because of the high rate of false-positive results. Background: Globally, eclampsia is the leading cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Objective: The present community‐based study was conducted among rural tribal women of reproductive age in remote villages of central India to determine their awareness of eclampsia and its likely impact. Methods: This cross‐sectional analytic study included randomly selected 4500 tribal women, between 15 and 45 years of age, residing in 140 villages in the proximity of one village with a health facility (study center), and who were willing to undergo a personal interview. In‐depth face‐to‐face interviews (each lasting 15–30 min) of study subjects regarding awareness, knowledge, practices, and perceptions about eclampsia were conducted using a predesigned tool completed by research assistants (not the subjects). Results: Of the 4500 women interviewed, the majority (62.4%) were 20–29 years old, minimally educated (40.6%), laborers (41.3%), and of a low socioeconomic class (40.8%). Of all the participants, only 35.9% were aware of eclampsia, associated events during pregnancy, labor, and the immediate post‐delivery period; 81.7% of those who were aware understood about symptoms and signs like headache, blurring of vision, dizziness, swelling over the body, ad high blood pressure. Of all the women who knew about eclampsia, 73.9% were aware that the occurrence of convulsions during antenatal and postnatal periods was an emergency and required urgent management, whereas 88.4% were not aware that severe convulsions affected maternal and neonatal health seriously, only 38.2% knew that eclampsia was a preventable condition. Conclusion: There was lack of awareness about eclampsia in many women and, of those who knew, some were not aware that it was dangerous. Introduction: Endometriosis is a recurring chronic inflammatory condition that affects females of reproductive age. Endometriosis-associated Pelvic Pain (EAPP) adversely impacts physical, mental, and social well-being. Currently, there is no ideal treatment option. Dienogest, a selective progestin, shows a pronounced effect on endometriosis. Aim: To compare the efficacy and safety of Dienogest at doses of 2 mg and 4 mg/day orally in the treatment of endometriosis. Materials and Methods: An observer-blind, parallel-group, randomised clinical trial was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at IPGME&R, SSKM Hospital, Kolkata, West Bengal, India, from April 2016 to December 2017. A total of 190 women aged 20-45 years suffering from endometriosis were recruited and divided into two treatment groups, A and B, receiving daily doses of 2 mg and 4 mg, respectively, for 24 weeks. Relief of EAPP was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, and improvement in Quality of Life (QoL) was measured. Treatment-related adverse events were also recorded. Numerical variables were compared using Student's t-test or the Mann-Whitney U Test, and categorical variables were compared using the Chi-square test or Fisher'sexact test. Results: The absolute reduction in pelvic pain VAS score was 39.71±8.60 at 24 weeks from the initial score of 70.88 (Mean VAS score before treatment with Dienogest) in Group A, compared to 34.80±6.45 from 69.34 (Mean VAS score before treatment with Dienogest) in Group B (p=0.0001). The difference in mean VAS at 24 weeks between the two groups was statistically significant (p=0.0002). At 24 weeks, 18 (24.66%) patients in Group A experienced an irregular bleeding pattern compared to 27 (40.30%) in Group B, with spotting being the most common issue. Adverse effects such as weight gain, acne, alopecia, depression, and decreased libido were observed in both groups, but they were more pronounced in the 4 mg group. Conclusion: The efficacy and safety results from this doseranging study of Dienogest indicate that 2 mg/day is the effective dose for treating endometriosis and offers better tolerability compared to the 4 mg dose. • Explore the level of breast cancer awareness among women of reproductive age. • Underscore the importance of targeted breast cancer awareness campaigns and interventions among women of reproductive age. • Highlights the existing knowledge gaps and the need for tailored interventions. Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in women worldwide, and its prevalence is rising among younger women of reproductive age. The study aims to investigate their awareness of breast cancer risk factors, warning indicators, and preventive methods. The study also aimed to assess participants' knowledge of breast self-examination (BSE) and their practices with this crucial screening method. To achieve these goals, we used a cross-sectional survey employing a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire included multiple-choice and open-ended items about breast cancer awareness, knowledge, and practices. There were 400 questionnaires given out to female patients attending the out-patient department, and 290 of them were completed and returned. The majority of responders to our poll, 88 %, were aware that breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in women. The fact that 57 % of the individuals never examined their own breasts is a worrying result. There was a statistically significant difference between knowledge and family history (X 2 = 13.8, P < 0.001) and knowledge and schooling (X 2 = 6.4,P < 0.001). Both the practise of BSE and knowledge of BC were good in respondents under the age of 45, however they differed statistically significantly (X 2-2.8,P = 0.041 and X 2-2.6, P = 0.001, respectively). Understanding the extent of breast cancer awareness and knowledge gaps in this population is critical for planning targeted interventions and educational efforts. By identifying areas where knowledge is weak, healthcare practitioners and governments can implement policies to encourage early detection practices, reduce delays in seeking medical aid, and ultimately improve breast cancer outcomes. Background: The concept of universal health coverage (UHC) encompasses both access to essential health services and freedom from financial harm. The World Health Organization's Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) Policy Survey collects data on policies that have the potential to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. The indicator, "Are the following health services provided free of charge at point-of-use in the public sector for women of reproductive age?", captures the free provision of 13 key categories of maternal health-related services, to measure the success of UHC implementation with respect to maternal health. However, it is unknown whether it provides a valid measure of the provision of free care. Therefore, this study compared free maternal healthcare laws and policies against actual practice in three countries. Methods and findings: We conducted a cross-sectional study in four districts/provinces in Argentina, Ghana, and India. We performed desk reviews to identify free care laws and policies at the country level and compared those with reports at the global level. We conducted exit interviews with women aged 15–49 years who used a component service or their accompanying persons, as well as with facility chief financial officers or billing administrators, to determine if women had out-of-pocket expenditures associated with accessing services. For designated free services, prevalence of expenditures at the service level for women and reports by financial officers of women ever having expenditures associated with services designated as free were computed. These three sources of data (desk review, surveys of women and administrators) were triangulated, and chi-square analysis was conducted to determine if charges were levied differentially by standard equity stratifiers. Designation of services as free matched what was reported in the MNCAH Policy Survey for Argentina and Ghana. In India, insecticide-treated bed nets and testing and treatment for syphilis were only designated as free for selected populations, differing from the WHO MNCAH Policy Survey. Among 1046, 923, and 1102 women and accompanying persons who were interviewed in Argentina, Ghana, and India, respectively, the highest prevalence of associated expenditures among women who received a component service in each setting was for cesarean section in Argentina (26%, 24/92); family planning in Ghana (78.4%, 69/88); and postnatal maternal care in India (94.4%, 85/90). The highest prevalence of women ever having out of pocket expenditures associated with accessing any free service reported by financial officers was 9.1% (2/22) in Argentina, 64.1% (93/145) in Ghana, and 29.7% (47/158) in India. Across the three countries, self-reports of out of pocket expenditures were significantly associated with district/province and educational status of women. Additionally, wealth quintile in Argentina and age in India were significantly associated with women reporting out of pocket expenditures. Conclusions: Free care laws were largely accurately reported in the global MNCAH policy database. Notably, we found that women absorbed both direct and indirect costs and made both formal and informal payments for services designated as free. Background: Reproductive span is the foundation of every woman's health in later life. India is currently facing a growing burden of multiple morbidities among the women in their reproductive age group which may further increase over the coming decades. The purpose of the present study aimed to identify different modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors affecting multimorbidity among the women in reproductive age group in Indian context. Methods: Secondary data were obtained from the Demography and Health Survey (DHS), conducted in India during 2019–2021. A total of 671,967 women aged 15–49 years were selected for this present study. Descriptive, association studies and multinominal logistic regression analyses were performed to accomplish the objectives. Results: Currently, 6.3% of total study participant's reproductive age group women suffered from multimorbidity in India. Never consuming protein, fruits, vegetables and milk increase the chances of developing multimorbidity. Consumption of fried foods, aerated drinks and addiction towards tobacco and alcohol also has a greater influence on the prevalence of multimorbidity. The prevalence of multimorbidity is sharply increased with increasing age and Body Mass Index (BMI). Regionally, the prevalence of multimorbidity was found more among the women hailed from eastern and north-eastern India. Conclusion: To reduce the risk of developing multimorbidity, targeted interventions are needed in the form of educating every woman concerning the importance of having minimum health-related knowledge, maintaining healthy lifestyle, weight management and having proper and balanced diet. Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a prevailing endocrinopathy affecting a significant population of women of reproductive age across the globe. A myriad set of complex intertwined factors ranging from etiological, genetic, and epigenetic reasons cause this disorder. Out of the different factors, vitamin D shows an imperative aspect in health and fertility of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The importance of vitamin D is facilitated by vitamin D receptor (VDR), a ligand-dependent transcription factor in the steroid/ thyroid hormone receptor superfamily that controls the pleiotropic biological properties of vitamin D. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of promoter methylation of the VDR gene, a transcription factor with numerous biological utilities, with its relative expression and clinico-pathological findings and outcomes. Methodology: A total of 200 blood samples were collected, 100 from PCOS case subjects, and 100 from the normal healthy controls respectively, which were assessed by qRT-PCR for determining the expression summary. MS-PCR technique was used for analyzing the promoter methylation status of the VDR gene. Blood samples were withdrawn, respectively, for each case and the control study separately experimented for different stages for the given study, of which estimation of vitamin D was also a part. Results: In this test-versus-control study, first, the promoter methylation status of VDR gene was identified which was found more prominent i.e., hyper-methylation of the VDR gene was identified in 84 cases (84%), and in the normal healthy controls, it was found (62%). The promoter methylation status of the VDR gene has remarkably shown the results with a significant difference (p value < 0.0001*). Second, the expression analysis of VDR gene was found to be strongly downregulated in majority (64%) of PCOS case samples analyzed by means fold change of 0.8743 (± 0.06466) (p value 0.0054**). This result is, therefore, indicative of VDR gene role in PCOS pathogenesis as the said gene is downregulated. Moreover, compared to the vitamin D parameter, hyper-methylation and expression analysis of the VDR promoter gene were found to correspond to some associations with PCOS. Certain case-and-control study analyses showed that patients with normal vitamin D levels showed less indicative effects of PCOS and vice versa. Conclusion: Our study, being exclusive from Kashmir, one of the foremost specified that VDR confirms anomalous methylation configuration in PCOS with subsequent downregulation in the gene expression i.e., there is an inverse correlation among VDR gene expression (downregulated) and methylation status (hyper-methylated) from the conclusion of our PCOS case-versus-control study. Background: Menstruation is a major physiological change in a woman's life, but lack of knowledge, poor practices, socio-cultural barriers, poor access to products and their improper disposal have significant consequences on health, dignity and well-being of women and adolescent girls. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the knowledge and practices related to menstrual health and hygiene amongst females of 10–49 years of age; explore the experiences and challenges of women during menstruation; and identify the key predictors of healthy menstrual health and hygiene. Methods: Using a cross-sectional study design, we adopted a mixed methods approach for data collection. For quantitative household survey, a total of 921 respondents were selected from three districts of Odisha. Qualitative findings through focus group discussions and in-depth interviews supplemented the survey findings and helped to identify the barriers affecting good menstrual practices. Epi data version 2.5 and R 4.2.2 was used for data entry and data analysis, respectively. Descriptive statistics was used to calculate proportion, mean and standard deviation; Chi square test was used to measure the association between categorical variables. Bivariate and multivariate logistics analyses were done to identify predictors of healthy menstrual health and hygiene. For qualitative data analysis, thematic analysis approach was adopted using software Atlas.ti 8. Results: For 74.3% respondents, mothers were the primary source of information; about 61% respondents were using sanitary pad. The mean age at menarche was 12.9 years and almost 46% of respondents did not receive any information about menstruation before menarche. Lower age and education up to higher secondary level or above had statistically significant associations with the knowledge about menstruation. Age, caste, respondent's education, mother's education, sanitation facility, availability of water, accessibility and affordability for sanitary pads were found to be strongly associated with good menstrual hygiene practices. Conclusion: Traditional beliefs regarding menstruation still persists at the community level. Educating mothers, increasing awareness about safe menstrual hygiene, providing adequate water and sanitation facilities and ensuring proper disposal of menstruation products need priority attention. Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with cervical cancer and cervical dysplasia worldwide. Data on HPV prevalence in a region is important because it serves as a predictor of the likelihood of the population in that particular region acquiring cervical cancer. Moreover, with the availability of effective vaccines, the public health system must be aware of the preponderance of HPV to implement the vaccine. The present study was designed to understand the prevalence of HPV and associated factors among the women of South Andaman Island. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among married women of reproductive age (18–59 years) from South Andaman District from 2018 to 2022. Cervical scrapes were collected from participants after obtaining informed written consent for HPV molecular testing (HPV DNA) such as PCR assay. Demographic data was collected using a standard questionnaire and statistical analyses were performed to determine the associated factors. Results: The study showed prevalence of HPV as 5.9%(95% CI: 3.9–7.9) and prevalence of HR-HPV16 was 4.1% (95% CI 2.6 – 5.5) and HR-HPV18 prevalence was 1.8(95% CI: 0.6–3). The independent factors associated the HPV positivity were age above 55 years, menopause, post-menopausal bleeding, blood-stained vaginal discharge and loss of weight. Age was associated with all HPV infections among the South Andaman women. Conclusions: HPV 16 was reported as the predominant high risk HPV type circulating among women of South Andaman. Cervical cancer and precancerous lesions were significantly associated with HPV positivity and High risk HPV 16. Based on the knowledge of the risk factors associated with HPV, implementation of stronger public health awareness and prophylactic HPV vaccination is crucial among the women of this remote island. Background: Over one-third of women worldwide suffer from anaemia. The prevalence of anaemia is particularly pronounced among women of reproductive age (WRA) in developing countries, such as India. No prior study has ever exclusively studied the prevalence of anaemia across the Aspirational Districts of India. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence of anaemia across Aspirational Districts of India and to identify the determinants of anaemia among WRA in these districts. Methods: From the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-4 (2015-16) and NFHS-5 (2019-21), data on 114,444 and 108,782 women aged 15–49 from Aspirational Districts were analyzed in our study, respectively. Bivariate statistics and multivariable binary logistic regression were used to identify the determinants of anaemia. Results: The national prevalence of anaemia among WRA has increased from 53% in NFHS-4 to 57% in NFHS-5 whereas anaemia among WRA in Aspirational Districts has increased from 58.7% in NFHS-4 to 61.1% in NFHS-5. Between 2015 and 2021, over 60% of Aspirational Districts experienced an increase in the prevalence of anaemia and one-fourth, specifically 29 out of 112, observed a rise by at least 10 percentage points (pp). Notably, there are significant variations in anaemia prevalence among districts, with Simdega and Udalgiri having the highest anaemia prevalence in NFHS-4 and NFHS-5 at 78.2% and 81.5%, respectively. During this period, Barpeta followed by Udalgiri of Assam have witnessed the maximum increase with 29.4% and 26.7% respectively. Moreover, pooled regression results show women with three to four children [AOR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.08–1.17], women who breastfeed [AOR: 1.17, 95% CI: 1.13–1.20], Scheduled Tribe women [AOR: 1.39, 95% CI: 1.35–1.44], poorest women [AOR: 1.27, 95% CI: 1.22–1.33] and women those who consume fish occasionally [AOR: 1.14, 95% CI: 1.12–1.17] were more likely to be anaemic. Conclusion: The significant increase in anaemia among WRA in Aspirational Districts of India is a matter of concern. Given the rise in anaemia among WRA, determinants-based and district-specific measures must be designed and implemented to reduce the prevalence of anaemia among Aspirational Districts of India. Purpose: According to the 4th and 5th rounds of National Family Health Survey (NFHS), there is high prevalence of hysterectomies in the three states of Andhra Pradesh Telangana and Bihar. The three said states have more than double the number of hysterectomies taking place than the national average. Our purpose is to analyse whether these rates are increasing, decreasing or have stabilized and their reasons thereof. Such an analyses will help the policy makers in recommending good clinical practices within their states. Material and methods: We used data from NFHS-4 (2015-16) and NFHS-5 (2019-2021) rounds. We calculated the differences in predicted probabilities for various factors, performed a Fairlie Decomposition analyses to quantify the positive and negative contributors in the prevalence of hysterectomy across the three states over two time points, and assessed the association of various socio-demographic characteristics to hysterectomy through a multilevel logistic regression model. Results and conclusion: The results show that out of a total of 80,976 eligible respondents from the states under study, 5826 respondents self-reported that they had a hysterectomy done. It was found that older age, living in rural areas, belonging to other backward classes and higher wealth quintile, and higher parity positively contributed to the increased prevalence of hysterectomies in the three states. Higher educational attainment and previous use of family planning methods acted as protective factors. Characteristics at the household level had the highest intra-class correlation value in the prevalence of hysterectomy among women, followed by the Primary Sampling Unit and District levels, indicating high clustering in the prevalence of hysterectomy at the household level in all three states. Heavy menstrual bleeding/pain was the leading cause of hysterectomies in all three states, followed by fibroids/cysts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and Uterine disorder/ prolapse in Bihar. Over 80% of hysterectomies took place in the private hospitals. Recommendations: The study recommends better, more efficient and accountable hysterectomy surveillance to ensure more sustainable woman's reproductive health services in India. Government should adopt and implement standard regulatory guidelines to prevent provider-driven avoidable hysterectomies. Moreover, we recommend informing primary care professionals about the long-term health effects of hysterectomy and promoting alternate therapies for treating uterine fibroids and heavy bleeding. Background: Reproductive tract infections (RTIs) and gynaecological morbidities constitute a significant proportion of morbidities in women of the reproductive age group. Objective: To find out the proportion of reproductive age group women in an urban resettlement colony having the symptoms of gynaecological morbidities and RTI/sexually transmitted infection (STI) and to explore the healthcare seeking behaviour of the women during such ailments. Materials and Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted from January to June 2023 among 317 females aged 15 to 49 years in an urban resettlement area of Gautam Buddh Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. Statistical analysis used included descriptive statistics and Chi-square test. SPSS 23 was used for data analysis. Results: There was a prevalence of 65.3% of at least one self-reported symptom suggestive of RTI/STI or gynaecological morbidity among the respondents. Among the symptomatic respondents, 54.1% were found to seek treatment. Among the reasons given for not seeking treatment in any health facility, the majority (83.1%) responded 'lack of awareness that the problem needed medical treatment' and 'stigma related with the problem' to be the main reasons. Conclusion: The reproductive healthcare seeking behaviour was found to be inadequate, with only 54.1% of symptomatic respondents seeking treatment. Enhanced health awareness sessions can be planned in the short term, and skilled communicators within or outside of the health system in the long term may be deployed to disseminate information in the community regarding sexual and gynaecological morbidities in reproductive age group women and their timely intervention. Background: Metabolic syndrome consists of cardiometabolic risk factors that promote the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, type 2 'DM' and obesity. These are associated with increased cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Metabolic disorders (MD) are becoming more prevalent both in developing countries and developed countries and are now considered as lifestyle diseases. In women of reproductive age group, especially pregnancy, the blood glucose level is increasing which adversely affects the health of mother and child. Similarly, high blood pressure also precipitates the problems. This study was carried out to find the prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity and 'MD' among the women living in remote rural set-up. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was done among women of reproductive age group in 15 villages from 5 panchayats of field practice area of Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College and Hospital, Kumarhatti, Solan. They were screened for 'MD' through investigative procedures (weight, height, BMR, abdominal girth, blood pressure through sphygmomanometer, blood glucose through the glucometer method), serum HDL and triglycerides. Respondents from the family were asked about the common/general information of house. The tool used for collecting general and relevant information from the respondent was a questionnaire, which was pretested for validity before being used in the field. Results: Four-hundred and sixty-seven women of reproductive age group participated in the study. Half of the participants were with qualification of matriculate and 9.2% participants were illiterate. Three-fourths of the participants were married women and 89% were vegetarian. Sixty-four per cent of participants were housewives. Half of the participants had a normal BMI, whereas 28.9% were overweight and 10% were obese. The prevalence of hypertension and diabetes among the participants were 12.5% and 9.8%, respectively. Forty-seven per cent participants had a waist circumference above 80 cm. Conclusion: The level of non-communicable diseases is related with the MD which has the adverse effect on the various systems and organs of the subjects. The MD can be controlled with the certain changes in the life style pattern. The GOI is also concerned with such scenarios in the country. It is recommended that women of reproductive age group undergo regular blood pressure and blood sugar screenings to detect hypertension and diabetes early and take appropriate measures to manage them. Background: Women's health is usually looked upon in terms of their reproductive health. However, cardio-vascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death and disability among women, globally as well as in India. Risk factors of today can be disease of tomorrow. Gradience in level of epidemiological transition is observed across different states. The study aims to estimate the national and regional prevalence, and sociodemographic determinants of biological and behavioural risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Materials and methods: The present study was conducted among women in the age group of 15 to 49 years using nationally representative sample from fifth round National Family Health Survey in India. The data analysis in the current study included 7,24,115 women in the age group of 15 to 49 years. SPSS version 20 was used for the purpose of analysis. Weighted prevalence was computed for the studied behavioral and biological (dependent variable) risk factors using women specific weights as provided in the dataset. Binary logistic regression model was employed to calculate the adjusted odds ratio (OR) with the corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) to study the sociodemographic determinants (independent variables) of these risk factors. Results: Highest prevalent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases was reported to be central obesity (78.2%), followed by overweight/obesity (23.9%), oral contraceptive use (13.4%), raised blood pressure (11.8%), raised blood sugar (8.6%), tobacco use (4.0%), and alcohol use (0.7%). Higher odds of all the studied risk factors were reported with increasing age. All of the studied risk factors, except for alcohol consumption [OR (95%CI): 0.9 (0.8–0.96)], had higher odds in rural areas compared to urban areas. Compared to other castes, the odds of tobacco [OR (95% CI): 2.01 (1.91–2.08)] and alcohol consumption [OR (95% CI): 5.76 (5.12–6.28)], and raised blood pressure [OR (95% CI): 1.07(1.04–1.11)] was significantly higher among the people belonging to schedule tribe. Conclusion and recommendation: The present study highlights the state-wise disparities in the burden and predictors of risk factors for cardio-vascular diseases among women of reproductive age. Background: Menstruation is a natural, physiological process experienced by all adolescent girls and women. The reproductive age group is the largest and most susceptible to various health and illness-related risk factors. This study aims to find the prevalence of satisfactory menstrual hygiene management (MHM) among women of reproductive age group and we also want to explore the cultural practices and beliefs related to menstruation and barriers to satisfactory MHM. Material and Methods: This study was conducted in rural field practice areas of Department of Community and Family Medicine, AIIMS, Rishikesh including 271 participants; women of reproductive age group using a mixed method study design (sequential quan--qual). Quantitative data were collected by household surveys and government schools using a validated structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Focus group discussions (FGD) were conducted to have insights about understanding menstrual hygiene and barriers to satisfactory hygiene practices. Results: It was found that only 70 (29.6%) participants adhered to satisfactory menstrual hygiene practices. The age group of 20--24 years had a higher proportion compared to other groups. Through FGD, the main themes derived were practices related to menstruation (maintenance of personal hygiene), daily activities (physical and mental problems during menses), and barriers faced (cultural, economic, privacy concerns, and shyness). Conclusion: The prevalence of satisfactory menstrual hygiene practices was very low only 29.6%, which is a cause of concern; either Taboos associated with menstruation, socio-cultural, economic barriers, or lack of awareness related to menstrual hygiene in the community can be contributing factors for low prevalence. Background: Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors in women of reproductive age, with an incidence ranging from 5.4% to 77%, leading to significant morbidity and affecting quality of life. Earlier studies suggested that uterine fibroids are more likely to develop in those women with low levels of serum vitamin D. Subsequently, the objective of the current study was to investigate the association of serum vitamin D3 levels in premenopausal women with uterine fibroids. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Indira IVF Hospital and Fertility Clinics located in India. The study was conducted from April 2022 to November 2022. In this study, a total of 160 women [80 cases and 80 controls] were enrolled. Women diagnosed with at least one uterine fibroid measuring 2 cm in size through a transvaginal scan were considered as cases, in comparison to healthy controls. Results: The mean serum vitamin D3 levels for the case and control groups were 10.85 ± 3.34 ng/ml and 19.64 ± 5.50 ng/ml, respectively. Serum vitamin D3 was significantly lower (P<0.001) in women with uterine fibroids compared to healthy controls. Additionally, a significant association was observed between serum vitamin D3 levels and the number of fibroids in the case group (P < 0.001). This indicates that as the level of serum vitamin D3 decreases, the number of fibroids increases gradually. Conclusion: Our study suggests that women with uterine fibroids tend to have low serum vitamin D3 concentrations. In the present cross-sectional study, the researchers aimed to assess the contraceptive knowledge, practice, and associated factors among 2228 women in Puducherry, India. National Family Health Survey questionnaire was adopted for data collection and about 1924 women participated. Current use of any contraceptive was 78.6% and female sterilization was 62%. The majority (99.8%) knew female sterilization, but below average for other contraceptive methods. About 10.4% were aware of more than three contraceptive methods. Age group, homemaker, with children or one son, aware of less than three methods, residing nearby to health facility were associated with the higher practice of contraceptive methods. Introduction: The prevalence of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), one of the common endocrine disorders among women of reproductive age, varies from 2.2% to 26% globally. The treatment for PCOS aims to reduce Body Mass Index (BMI), improve underlying hormonal disturbances, prevent future reproductive and metabolic complications, and enhance the quality of life. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of metformin and Myoinositol (MI) on the metabolic, hormonal, and clinical profiles in PCOS. Materials and Methods: An open-label randomised clinical trial was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Kattankulathur, Chengelpet, Tamil Nadu, India, from January 2019 to May 2020. The study included 80 women with PCOS who were randomly assigned to two groups. One group received metformin 1500 mg/day (in three divided doses), while the other group received MI 1 gram/day for three months. At the end of the 12-week therapy, the participants were evaluated for changes in clinical, metabolic, and hormonal profiles. The data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, proportion, mean, and standard deviation were used for quantitative data. Results: Both the metformin and MI-treated groups showed a significant reduction in BMI, fasting blood glucose, and fasting insulin. Both drugs were equally effective in changing the hormonal profile. There was a significant improvement in lipid parameters in both groups, with High-density Lipoprotein (HDL) levels being more significantly raised in the metformin group. The post-treatment HDL values in the metformin group were 75.69±19.16 mg/dL compared to 41.43±6.18 mg/dL in the MI group (p<0.0001). Both groups demonstrated similar efficacy in improving menstrual regularity, with 60% of the patients in the metformin group and 65% in the MI group having regular cycles at the end of treatment. Among infertility patients, the conception rate was 40% in the metformin group and 25% in the MI group (p=0.70). Conclusion: Both drugs were equally efficient in improving the clinical, metabolic, and hormonal profiles in PCOS. Background: Myomas or fibroids are commonly encountered in clinical practice and are present in more than 50% of the reproductive aged women. According to the Global Burden of Disease (2019) data, the global incident cases of uterine myomas has increased. The choice of treatment for reproductive aged women with symptoms needing to preserve their fertility is still myomectomy. There are two main approaches of performing myomectomy i.e., abdominal/open and laparoscopic. There have been recent evidence indicating that laparoscopic myomectomy is associated with shorter recovery time, lower risk of post-operative complications and overall similar clinical outcomes when compared to open myomectomy. Objective: To compare the intra-operative and post-operative clinical outcomes among women undergoing open and laparoscopic myomectomy. Methods: This is a retrospective study done in a tertiary care hospital in Odisha, India. Data from women who undergone either of the two surgical approaches between February 2016 to December 2018 were utilized. The outcomes of interest were estimated blood loss, duration of surgery, need for blood transfusion, duration of hospitalization, indicators of recovery and post-operative complications. Regression analysis was done to document the association of surgery type with the outcomes. Effect sizes were reported either as mean difference (MD) or odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: A total of 140 subjects were included in this study (laparoscopic group (LM)=60 and open myomectomy group (OM)=80). Those undergoing LM had lower blood loss (in ml) (MD -21.0; 95% CI: -37.5 to -4.47) and a higher surgical time (in min) (MD 13.0; 95% CI: 3.0 to 23.1), compared to OM. The duration of hospitalization (in days) was comparatively lower in those undergoing LM (MD -2.42; 95% CI: -2.47 to - 2.37). The women undergoing LM had higher odds of being free from analgesic at 2nd post-operative day (OR 5.90; 95% CI :2.82 to 12.3) and discharged by 3rd to 5th post-operative day (OR 4.74; 95% CI :2.27 to 9.91). The risk of need for blood transfusion and post-operative complications were similar in both the groups. Background: In many females, premenstrual disorder and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) remain undiagnosed and untreated owing to their difficult diagnosis and failure in reporting it to the gynecologist. Due to varied interpretations and the non-existence of universal diagnostic criteria, a high variation in its prevalence is reported. PMS is poorly understood with limited knowledge. Aim: The present study aimed to assess the prevalence and management of PMS (premenstrual syndrome) in Indian females and its association with stress, anxiety, and depression among students. Methods: In the present study, a questionnaire following ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) criteria was made to assess PMS levels in study subjects along with the DASS (depression, anxiety, and stress) scale. The study assessed 828 females of the reproductive age group. The data gathered were assessed statistically to compare various variables. An analysis was done by student’s unpaired t-test and Pearson’s correlation. Results: The PMS severity was mild in 32.60% (n=270) study subjects, moderate PMS in 59.42% (n=492) subjects, and severe PMS in 7.97% (n=66) study subjects respectively. In 28.98% (n=240) subjects PMS was due to depression with a correlation of 0.723 which was statistically significant with p<0.001. Concerning anxiety and PMS, it was seen that PMS was due to anxiety in 31.76% (n=263) study subjects and a correlation of 0.763 which was a statistically significant association with p<0.001. The PMS in 39.25% (n=325) subjects was due to stress where the correlation was 0.852 and the results were statistically significant with p<0.001. Alternate therapy, painkillers, and over-the-counter drugs were commonly used by females for PMS. Conclusion: The present study, considering its limitations, concludes that premenstrual syndrome harms female health and is a highly prevalent concern. Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common endocrine disorder and most common cause of ovarian dysfunction in women of reproductive age group. Clinical manifestations of PCOS range from mild signs of hyperandrogenism to the classic Stein-Leventhal syndrome. Aims: To correlate between ultrasonographic findings, clinical features, and hormonal profile in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. Materials and Methods: The present study was a Cross-sectional study. This study was conducted from January 2021 to February 2023 at the Department of Radiodiagnosis, Katuri Medical College and Hospital, Katuri Nagar, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. Result: FSH levels were low to normal in 85.3% of the patients with >12 follicles, 86.8% of the patients with 2-9 mm follicular size, 87.3% of the patients with >10cc ovarian volume, and 94% of the patients with EMT>10mm. The mean FSH level is lower in patients with 2-9mm follicles compared to patients with >9mm follicular size. Conclusion: Thus, this study concludes that ultrasonographic ovarian features like follicular number and ovarian volume show significant positive correlations with LH level as well as positive correlations with LH/FSH ratio. Availability of emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) is a strong supply side measure of essential health system capacity that is closely and causally linked to maternal mortality reduction and fundamentally to achieving universal health coverage. The World Health Organization's indicator "Availability of EmONC facilities" was prioritized as a core indicator to prevent maternal death. The indicator focuses on whether there are sufficient emergency care facilities to meet the population need, but not all facilities designated as providing EmONC function as such. This study seeks to validate "Availability of EmONC" by comparing the value of the indicator after accounting for key aspects of facility functionality and an alternative measure of geographic distribution. This study takes place in four subnational geographic areas in Argentina, Ghana, and India using a census of all birthing facilities. Performance of EmONC in the 90 days prior to data collection was assessed by examining facility records. Data were collected on facility operating hours, staffing, and availability of essential medications. Population estimates were generated using ArcGIS software using WorldPop to estimate the total population, and the number of women of reproductive age (WRA), pregnancies and births in the study areas. In addition, we estimated the population within two-hours travel time of an EmONC facility by incorporating data on terrain from Open Street Map. Using these data sources, we calculated and compared the value of the indicator after incorporating data on facility performance and functionality while varying the reference population used. Further, we compared its value to the proportion of the population within two-hours travel time of an EmONC facility. Included in our study were 34 birthing facilities in Argentina, 51 in Ghana, and 282 in India. Facility performance of basic EmONC (BEmONC) and comprehensive EmONC (CEmONC) signal functions varied considerably. One facility (4.8%) in Ghana and no facility in India designated as BEmONC had performed all seven BEmONC signal functions. In Argentina, three (8.8%) CEmONC-designated facilities performed all nine CEmONC signal functions, all located in Buenos Aires Region V. Four CEmONC-designated facilities in Ghana (57.1%) and the three CEmONC-designated facilities in India (23.1%) evidenced full CEmONC performance. No sub-national study area in Argentina or India reached the target of 5 BEmONC-level facilities per 20,000 births after incorporating facility functionality yet 100% did in Argentina and 50% did in India when considering only facility designation. Demographic differences also accounted for important variation in the indicator's value. In Ghana, the total population in Tolon within 2 hours travel time of a designated EmONC facility was estimated at 99.6%; however, only 91.1% of women of reproductive age were within 2 hours travel time. Comparing the value of the indicator when calculated using different definitions reveals important inconsistencies, resulting in conflicting information about whether the threshold for sufficient coverage is met. This raises important questions related to the indicator's validity. To provide a valid measure of effective coverage of EmONC, the construct for measurement should extend beyond the most narrow definition of availability and account for functionality and geographic accessibility. Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome is a multifactorial endocrine disorder impacting women of reproductive age. Variations within the FTO gene have been linked to both obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Given that PCOS is frequently associated with obesity and compromised glucose tolerance, we investigated the prevalence of the rs9939609 variant within the FTO gene among women diagnosed with PCOS and a control group. Our aim is to uncover potential correlations between this genetic variant, metabolic attributes, and endocrine markers within the Gujarat province of India. Method: We enrolled a total of 114 participants, (62 individuals diagnosed with PCOS and 52 healthy controls). DNA extraction from venous blood was conducted for all participants. The rs9939609 polymorphism was investigated through tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction. Furthermore, we performed biochemical assessments to quantify levels of estradiol, luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), total testosterone, prolactin (PRL), and Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS). Statistical analyses were carried out utilizing SPSS version 21 (IBM, USA). Results: The present study did not reveal any noteworthy association between cases and controls. The frequencies of genotypes and alleles within the cohorts displayed no statistically significant differences (p = 0.25, p = 0.68, and p = 0.78, respectively). The dominant model indicated a modest risk (OR:1.13, 95%CI: 0.55 to 2.38) toward PCOS development. There was a noticeable statistical difference observed in the levels of total testosterone, DHEAS, and BMI between the case and control groups (p < 0.002, p < 0.0002, p < 0.0008). However, no variations in clinical variables were observed among genotypes within the PCOS group. Conclusion: This is the first study to investigate the association of FTO gene polymorphism and PCOS in Gujarati population. Our study findings indicate that the FTO gene variant is not directly linked to the onset of PCOS. However, it appears to exert an influence on metabolic factors such as obesity and insulin resistance. Background: Women with adnexal masses still pose a diagnostic dilemma and require efficient triaging. The Risk of Malignancy Index (RMI) is an algorithm used for differentiation of malignant from benign ovarian masses. Aims and Objectives: The present study aimed to evaluate the four indices RMI 1, RMI 2, RMI 3, and RMI 4 to discriminate a malignant ovarian tumor from a benign one. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out at a tertiary care hospital of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, India, in 312 patients with ovarian masses. RMI scores were calculated based on pre-operative cancer antigen-125 levels, ultrasonography, and menopausal status followed by post-operative histopathology, taken as gold standard. Using cutoff points of RMI indices, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of RMI were assessed. Results: Out of total 312 patients, 68 (21.8%) had malignant disease and 244 (78.2%) had benign pathology. All indices presented a significantly better performance in detecting malignancy than the use of a single parameter. Each of the RMIs had a different optimal threshold; however, using a threshold of 250, RMI 1, RMI 2, RMI 3, and RMI 4 had a sensitivity and specificity of 64.7%, 70.5%, 64.7%, and 65.2% and 93.4%, 83.6%, 90.2%, and 91.4%, respectively. Conclusion: The RMI is a simple, composite tool that at lower values can reliably predict benign nature of adnexal tumors. Background: Globally by 2030, 38% of the world's population would be overweight, and another 20% would be obese. This has led to rising concerns regarding how swiftly and substantially the world is moving towards this epidemic of "globesity". India too is facing an increased burden of overweight and obese population. The changing dietary patterns are significantly associated with the increasing prevalence of overweight/obesity and related complications, especially among women. Hence, the present study aims to observe the spatial patterns of overweight or obesity among women in reproductive age group in India and factors associated with it. Methods: The study analyzed data from a cross-sectional nationwide household survey, i.e. National Family Health Survey (NFHS-4), 2015–16. The primary outcome variable of this study was overweight/obesity among reproductive-age women, which was measured through the body mass index (BMI) of the women. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the data. Additionally, for spatial analysis in terms of overweight/obesity among women in India, univariate and bivariate Moran's I index measurements were used along with the usage of spatial regression models. Results: The value of spatial-autocorrelation for overweight or obese was 0.64, which depicts the moderately high prevalence of the overweight/obesity coverage over districts of India. The overall prevalence overweight/obesity among women in India is around 25% and higher proportion of women from urban areas (37.8%), and non-poor (33.4%) economic group reported to be overweight or obese. From spatial lag model, the lag coefficient was found to be 0.28, implying that a change in the prevalence of overweight/obesity among women in a certain district may statistically lag the prevalence of overweight/obesity by 28% in the neighbouring districts. There were significantly high clustering of overweight/obese women and non-poor wealth quintiles in 132 districts, mainly from states of Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, there was high-high clustering of overweight/obese women and those who ever had caesarean in 82 districts, mostly from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Conclusion: The spatial patterns on the prevalence of overweight and obesity in India show that the women belonging to the southern states' districts are more overweight or obese in comparison to other states. The determinants like older age, higher education, urban residence, higher economic status are the key factors contributing to the prevalence of overweight or obesity among women in the reproductive age group. The study concludes and recommends an urgent need of interventions catering to urban women belonging to higher socio-economic status, to reduce the risks of health consequences due to overweight and obesity. Background: Increased coverage for institutional delivery (ID) is one of the essential factors for improved maternal and child health (MCH). Though, ID increased over time, out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE) for the care-seeking families had been found to be growing, parallelly. Hence, we estimated OOPE in public and private health centres for ID, along with their sources and attributing factors and compared state and union territory-wise, so that financial risk protection can be improved for MCH related services. Methods: We used women's data from the National Family Health Survey, 2019–2021 (NFHS-5). Reproductive aged women (15–49 years) delivering one live child in last 5 years (n = 145,386) in any public or private institutions, were included. Descriptive statistics were presented as frequency and proportions. OOPE, was summarized as median and interquartile range (IQR). To estimate the extent for each covariate's effect, linear regression model was conducted. Results: Overall median OOPE for ID was Rs. 4066 (median OOPE: private hospitals: Rs.25600, public hospitals: Rs.2067). Health insurance was not sufficient to slash OOPE down at private facilities. Factors associated significantly to high OOPE were mothers' education, elderly pregnancy, complicated delivery, birth order of the latest child etc. Conclusion: A standard norm for ID should be implemented as a component of overseeing and controlling inequality. Aiding the needy is probably just one side of the solution, while the focus is required to be shifted towards reducing disparity among the health facilities, so that the beneficiaries do not need to spend on essential services or during emergencies. Introduction: Maternal and child under-nutrition is particularly widespread in low and middle-income nations, increasing the overall disease burden due to poor nutritional status. The aim of this study was to develop nutrition intervention for the prevention and control of anaemia among women of reproductive age. Methods: Community-based intervention study was conducted among 443 women of reproductive age group (15–49 years) to determine the effectiveness of a 6-month nutrition intervention package. The nutrition intervention was developed by using Precede-Proceed model and the trans-theoretical model of behavior change. Multi-channel communication approach was adopted and nutrition intervention package was provided. Assessment of haemoglobin, red blood cells, platelet, ferritin, folate, vitamin B12, haematocrit test, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular haemoglobin, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration, red cell distribution width and total leucocyte count was compared at the baseline and endline after the intervention among the participants. The chi-square test of independence and t-test were performed. Results: The only mean ferritin level shows significant improvement (p < 0.001). A significant decrease (~ 15%, p = 0.027) in anaemia was observed after the intervention. Conclusions: Improvement in anaemic status of women was observed. National schemes and programs require a more robust strategical implementation like food fortification/bio fortification and behaviour change communication at village level to enhance the availability and accessibility of fortified food. Background: Women of reproductive age group (WoRAG) are among the most vulnerable groups to suicide in India. The present study intended to develop a mathematical model to differentiate suicides from homicides among WoRAG. Methods: It was a cross-sectional study based on a record review of autopsy at Patna, India, from 2016 to 2021. The cause of deaths was ascertained by autopsies and other records independently by two investigators to reduce the interobserver bias. Independent variables were tested with confirmed suicides to calculate statistically significant association. These variables were further used for developing prediction models for the suicides by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: Out of total of 520 autopsies of WoRAG performed by investigators, the cause of death has been confirmed for 62. Of them, 30 were confirmed as suicides. In univariate analysis, suicides were associated with the menstrual bleed (OR 35 CI 6.9,179), gastric emptying (OR 3.9 CI 1.2,12.8), hanging, poisoning, and drowning as mode of death (OR 435 CI 37.4,5061.9). By logistic regression, three prediction models were built to predict suicide; Model I: gastric emptying, Model II: menstrual bleed, and Model III: including both. The area under the curve (AUC) for Models I, II, and III was 0.67 (95%CI 0.34,0.99), 0.92 (95%CI 0.75,1.00), and 0.94 (95%CI 0.82,1.00), respectively. The AUC of Model III differs significantly from that of Model I (P value 0.03) but not with Model II (P value 0.11). Conclusion: Menstrual bleed, gastric emptying, and mode of death may be used as a supplement tool in ascertaining the cause of death among WoRAG in medical and legal proceedings. The study was taken up to assess the changing trend in prevalence and severity of anaemia in women of reproductive age over the last 15 years by analyzing National Family Health Survey (NFHS) factsheet data and to draw a comparison between the prevalence of anaemia across different states/UTs of India. NFHS 3, 4 and 5 factsheets have been referred for the same. An increase in the prevalence of anaemia from 53% to 57% in all women aged 15-49 years is seen, 50.4% to 52.2% in pregnant women and 53.2% to 57.2% in non-pregnant women between NFHS 4 and 5. West Bengal has the highest prevalence of anaemia, followed by Tripura (67.2%) and Assam with 65.9% among women of 15-49 years. NFHS 5 data shows an increase in the prevalence of anaemia in all women by 4%, 1.8% in pregnant women and a increase by 4 % in non-pregnant women. Anemia Mukt Bharat campaign launched in 2019, was expected to reduce or inert the anaemia burden, but NFHS 5 data indicates a surge in anaemia incidences significantly across women of all age groups over the last five years. Background: Vitamin D deficiency has been related to poor bone health, increased risk of PIH, obstructed labour, vaginosis and LBW baby among women of reproductive age. Aims &Objectives: To evaluate the serum calcium and vitamin D levels of reproductive age group women and their relation with sociodemographic parameters. Material &Methods: A crosssectional study was conducted among non-pregnant and non-lactating women aged 15-49 years, attending the OPD for any musculoskeletal complaints. The study participants were subjected to a pretested questionnaire for capturing information regarding their sociodemographic parameters. Non fasting blood samples were obtained for biochemical analysis of serum vitamin D and calcium. Results: The mean serum vitamin D and calcium levels were 20.94±10.61 ng/ml and 4.82±0.87 mg/dl respectively. The median serum vitamin D levels were 18.1 ng/ml with IQR of 12.43-28.00 ng/ml. The median serum vitamin D levels were significantly less among women residing in rural area and those who were unmarried/separated. Vitamin D level were highest in middle and lowest in upper socioeconomic status (p=0.007). Conclusion: Vitamin D deficiency is more pronounced among women from rural background and those who were unmarried/separated. Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinopathy affecting women of reproductive age group at a global level. According to many community-based studies, the prevalence of PCOS in India ranges from 3.7 to 22.5% due to the country's enormous population. Upon ultrasound, it shows multiple cysts arranged in a bead of necklace-like appearance causing irregular menstrual cycles and infertility in most cases. It is manifested with abnormally raised testosterone and insulin levels and increased luteinizing hormone (LH)-to-follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) ratio. Phenotypically, it is presented as obesity, hirsutism, acne and male pattern baldness, which impacts the self-esteem of young girls leading to depression and compromised quality of life. Aim: Numerous potential genes have been shown to contribute to PCOS, and the genetic linkage of PCOS has been investigated in many studies. In this study we are looking into the candidate genes, the variants, and other responsible factors behind the genesis of PCOS. This will help in better understanding of its pathogenesis and, as a result, deciphering the mechanism by proper medication. Method of the study: We comprehensively searched for publications including PCOS-relevant keywords in different areas in five different electronic databases: PubMed, Google Scholars, Elsevier, Springer Link and Science Direct up to March 2023 focusing on the new ones. We excluded non-English articles, conference papers and studies that were overlapping. Chosen articles were carefully read and further articles that were retrieved from their references were also reviewed so as to make the search complete with the inclusion criterion. Result: This review summarizes PCOS as an polygenic and a multifactorial complex disease in which a vast array of genetic and environmental factors are involved. Genes that affect steroidogenesis (ovarian and adrenal), gonadotropin action and regulation, insulin action and secretion, body mass index and chronic inflammation are directly or indirectly associated with PCOS. Conclusion: In this study, research of the genetic propensity to PCOS was made, though not in-depth. With the acquired knowledge of array of genes involved, targeted efforts can be made for the potential therapeutic management of the PCOS patients via the novel discovered routes. Moreover, understanding more about PCOS would be beneficial in prevention of the associated metabolic disorders, life-threatening morbidities, restoring fertility and raising the self-esteem of the young women. Background: Anaemia is a serious global public health problem that disproportionally affects children, adolescent girls, and women of reproductive age, especially pregnant women. Women of reproductive age are more vulnerable to anaemia, particularly severe and moderate anaemia leads to adverse outcomes among pregnant women. Despite continuous Government efforts, anaemia burden still poses a serious challenge in India. The objective of this study is to assess the trends in prevalence and determinants of severe and moderate anaemia among women of reproductive age between 15 and 49 years. Method: We used three rounds of the large-scale National Family Health Survey (NFHS) India, conducted on a representative sample of households using a cross-sectional design across the country in 2005–06, 2015–16 and 2019–2021. We included all the women aged 15 to 49 years in our analysis. We used the same haemoglobin (Hb) cut-off values for all the three rounds of surveys to ensure comparability. Generalized linear regression analyses with log link were done. Survey weights were incorporated in the analysis. Results: The prevalence of severe or moderate Anaemia (SMA) in non-pregnant women was 14.20%, 12.43% and 13.98%; it was 31.11%, 25.98% and 26.66% for pregnant women in 2006, 2016 and 2021 respectively. The decline in SMA prevalence was 1.54% in non-pregnant women, whereas it was 14.30% in pregnant women in 15 years. Women who were poor, and without any formal education had a higher risk for severe and moderate Anaemia. Conclusion: Despite the intensive anaemia control program in India, SMA has not declined appreciably in non-pregnant women during the last two decades. Despite the decline, the prevalence of SMA was about 26% in pregnant women which calls for a comprehensive review of the existing anaemia control programmes and there must be targeted programmes for the most vulnerable and high-risk women such as rural, poor and illiterate women of reproductive age to reduce the burden of anaemia among them. Background: Despite unprecedented socio-economic growth experienced by Indians in the past few decades, and a long history of anti-anaemia public health measures, prevalence of anaemia in Indian non-pregnant women of reproductive age group (NPWRA) has not declined. This warrants a firm understanding of what explains the anaemia situation over time, preferably by sub-populations. Therefore, we aimed to examine the trends of anaemia in tribal NPWRA (least privileged) and compare with the trends in the NPWRA of general caste (most privileged) between 1998 to 2021. Additionally, the study also explored explanation of any decline and tribal/general narrowing of these trends. Methods: We studied four rounds of National Family Health Survey (1998–99, 2005–06, 2015–16, 2019–21). We examined the trend of anaemia (haemoglobin < 12 g/dl) and its possible determinants in tribal and general NPWRA and estimated the portion of "decline" and "narrowing" that could be explained by the underlying and intermediate determinants (wealth, education, residence, parity and food security) using multiple logistic regression. Results: The distribution of determinants improved over 23 years in both the groups but more in tribals. But anaemia either remained unchanged or increased in both except 7.1 points decline in tribals between 2006–2016, leading also to 7 points narrowing of tribal/general gap. The modest attenuation of beta coefficients representing the change of anaemia prevalence (log of odds) in tribals from -0.314(-0.377, -0.251) to -0.242(-0.308, -0.176) after adjustment with determinants could explain only 23% of the decline. Similarly, only 7% of the narrowing of the tribal/general anaemia gap could be explained. Conclusions: The structural determinants wealth, education, food security, parity and urban amenities improved immensely in India but anaemia did not decline in this 23-year period. This implies that the "usual suspects" – the structural determinants are not the main drivers of anaemia in the country. The main driver may be absolute and/or functional deficiency status of micronutrients including iron attributable to inadequate uptake and absorption of these elements from Indian diets; and therefore, their effects are noticeable in every socio-economic stratum of India. The prevalence of anaemia and its continuous growth, especially among women, is a global health concern. The present study aims to examine the prevalence of anaemia and its determinants in the North Eastern region of India. The study used secondary data from the National Family Health Survey 2015-2016 on women of reproductive age group in India. The data were adjusted for sampling weight, stratification and cluster sampling design for analysis. Binary logistic regression and multivariable regression analysis were performed to determine factors associated with anaemia. Of the 65941 participants, 25993 (40%) had anaemia. High prevalence of mild or moderate anaemia was found among women with following socio-demographic characteristics: residing in the rural area (41.20%), having no education (43.07%), belonging to the low-income family (43.39%), having a well as source of drinking water (46.29%), using the traditional method of contraception (44.55%), underweight (42.18%) and those who had first delivery before 20 years of age (40.66%). Logistic regression (adjusted odds ratio) showed that women in the following categories were more likely to develop anaemia: in the age-group of 35-49 years, with no education, with poor wealth, having low nutrition levels; using traditional contraception and women who ate pulses or fish once a week. Alarming rates of anaemia (two in every five), found in the study, need effective strategies for fortification of iron supplement among women. Generation of mass awareness in this regard by utilizing the ongoing adolescent, maternal, child health and nutrition programmes will help in reducing the incidence of anaemia among women. Although partner alcohol use and acceptance of intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) are critical determinants of IPVAW, little is known about their interaction. We explored how partner alcohol use and attitudes toward IPVAW act independently and jointly at the individual and community levels to influence women's reports of experiencing IPVAW across low- and middle-income countries. We conducted secondary analyses using a pooled sample of reproductive-aged women (n = 166,621) from 19 Demographic and Health Survey datasets. We fit a series of a priori-defined mixed-effects logistic regression models of the total effects, within- and between-community effects, and contextual effects of past-year IPVAW on partner alcohol use, acceptance of IPVAW, and their multiplicative interaction. We then fit a series of models stratified by community alcohol use and acceptance of IPVAW. Partner alcohol use (odds ratio [OR] = 3.20; 95% confidence interval [CI]: [3.07, 3.33]) and women's acceptance of IPVAW (OR = 1.83; 95% CI: [1.76, 1.89]) were consistently associated with increased odds of experiencing IPVAW. Sub-multiplicative interactions were present for within-community effects (ratio of OR = 0.86; 95% CI: [0.79, 0.94]), whereas supra-multiplicative interactions were present for between-community effects (ratio of OR = 1.002; 95% CI: [1.0002, 1.005]) and contextual effects (ratio of OR = 1.003; 95% CI: [1.0007, 1.005]). The odds of IPVAW associated with partner alcohol use was greatet in communities with lower partner alcohol prevalence and lower acceptance of IPVAW. It is important to consider norms and attitudes toward IPVAW alongside alcohol use when understanding epidemiological patterns of IPVAW and potential opportunities for preventive programs and policymaking. Background: A global midwifery shortage hampers the goal of ending preventable maternal/newborn mortality and stillbirths. Whether current measures of midwifery workforce adequacy are valid is unknown. We compare two measures of density and distribution of midwifery professionals to assess their consistency, and explore how incorporating midwifery scope, competency, and the adjusting reference population impacts this critical metric. Methods and findings: We collected a census of midwives employed in eligible facilities in our study settings, (422 in Ghana; 909 in India), assessed the number practicing within the scope of work for midwifery professionals defined in the International Labor Organization International Standard Classification of Occupations, and whether they reported possessing the ICM essential competencies for basic midwifery practice. We altered the numerator, iteratively narrowing it from a simple count to include data on scope of practice and competency and reported changes in value. We altered the denominator by calculating the number of midwives per 10,000 total population, women of reproductive age, pregnancies, and births and explored variation in the indicator. Across four districts in Ghana, density of midwives decreased from 8.59/10,000 total population when counting midwives from facility staffing rosters to 1.30/10,000 total population when including only fully competent midwives by the ICM standard. In India, no midwives met the standard, thus the midwifery density of 1.37/10,000 total population from staffing rosters reduced to 0.00 considering competency. Changing the denominator to births vastly altered subnational measures, ranging from ~1700% change in Tolon to ~8700% in Thiruvallur. Conclusion: Our study shows that varying underlying parameters significantly affects the value of the estimate. Factoring in competency greatly impacts the effective coverage of midwifery professionals. Disproportionate differences were noted when need was estimated based on total population versus births. Between 1990 and 2016 the number of adolescents with anemia world-wide increased by 20% to almost one in four. Iron deficiency in adolescence results in compromised growth, decreased cognitive function, and depressed immune function, and can increase the risk of negative outcomes in pregnancy, especially in the case of young adolescents. In India, despite several decades of governmental investment in anemia prevention and treatment, more than half of women of reproductive age are anemic, with rates even higher in the adolescent population. Although awareness of adolescence as a nutrition-sensitive developmental stage is increasing, there is a lack of qualitative research on the perspectives of adolescents and families on anemia and related services. In this study, we explored the issues influencing adolescents' awareness of anemia in three rural areas of Karnataka. Sixty-four in-depth interviews and six focus group discussions were conducted with adolescents (those who had never been pregnant, pregnant adolescents, and young mothers), community members, and nutrition-related service providers in the health and education sectors. An inductive analytical approach was used. We found that adolescent girls, particularly those who have not experienced pregnancy or motherhood, had very low awareness of anemia. State programs including school-based distribution of iron and folic acid supplements and nutrition talks were not seen to be resulting in knowledge and acceptance of the importance of preventing anemia. Pregnancy represents a turning point in which adolescents are systematically tested for anemia as part of routine antenatal care, increasing their awareness of, and access to, treatment for the condition. At the same time, pregnancy represents to family and community a period to insist on a nutritious diet. For progress in anemia reduction to be made, improved age-appropriate measures specific for adolescence are required. OBJECTIVES: Clinical biochemistry reference intervals (RIs) play a crucial role in interpreting patient test results and making informed clinical decisions. Using data from an ongoing Indian Council of Medical Research-National task force study on healthy women, normative ranges for commonly analyzed biochemical analytes were established. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 13,181 women of reproductive age (18-40 years) were recruited from different urban and rural regions of the country, of which 9898 women signed an informed consent were included. Among these, women having features of hyperandrogenism, menstrual cycle irregularities, and comorbidities were excluded. RIs of 22 analytes were computed in the remaining 938 women controls. To estimate the 95% range of the reference distribution, the limits of the 2.5th percentile and the 97.5th percentile were used in the study. RESULTS: Mean ± standard deviation of age and body mass index of participants was 30.12 ± 6.32 years and 22.8 ± 3.36 kg/m2 respectively. Centiles (2.5th-97.5th) of liver function parameters, lipid parameters, glycaemic parameters, and renal parameters are presented. No significant difference in analytes was observed in relation to the area of residence, and age groups except in albumin (P = 0.03). The distribution of most of the parameters was consistent with the various RI studies conducted in India as well as other countries. CONCLUSION: This is the first study generating biochemical RIs data among a large representative sample of healthy reproductive-age women recruited using a robust design across the country. Background: The common cause of anemia in the general population is iron deficiency. Anemia is adversely affecting women of reproductive age and child health which in turn results in increased morbidity and maternal death, and also hamper social-economic growth. Reproductive women are more prone to anemia due to inadequate dietary intake and iron loss during menstruation and pregnancy. Objectives: This study examined the level and trend of anemia prevalence among the socially disadvantaged group (SC&ST, OBC) of women as compared to the other women (general) and identified the main responsible factors behind this. Data and methods: The data for this analysis has been taken from three rounds of National Family Health Survey (NFHS) conducted during 2005–2006 (NFHS 3), 2015–16 (NFHS 4) and 2019–21 (NFHS 5). Univariate and bivariate analyses were used to assess the level of anemia among reproductive age group women of different social groups. The regression model represents the relative risk of different confounding factors on the occurrence of anemia. GIS technique used for graphical representation of anemia prevalence rate among different social groups of women in different states of India. Result: In India more than 15 states belong to the high prevalence (>%55) of anemia among socially backward groups in 2019–21. The anemia prevalence was high (>55%) in all social groups (SC & ST, OBC, general) observed in 7 states in NFHS-3, 4 in NFHS-4 and 11 states in NFHS-5. The overall result reveals that the SC&ST women were more prone to any anemia than OBC and general women and the prevalence rate slightly increased from 2005–06 to 2019–21. Among all variables, economic status dominantly controls the anemia level in all social groups. Anemia prevalence of the poor and poorest group of general women were much worse than the women of richer and richest groups of SC&ST, OBC. The odds of women having anemia were lower among higher educated and urban women as compared to the non educated and rural women, irrespective of social group. The prevalence of anemia decreases with increased age of women and increases with the number of child bearing. All differences were statistically significant. Conclusions: The problem of iron deficiency remains a major issue in India, where the majority of the states (eastern, north-eastern and central) suffer from high anemia prevalence rate and it increases over time. It is observed that multiple socio-demographic factors ranging from poor economic and educational status, rural residence to higher childbearing of women are responsible for predicting anemia levels among the social groups of women in India. To eradicate this problem India should improve women's overall nutrition status and their income. Background: Spousal or intimate partner violence is the most common form of domestic violence and is a preventable cause of morbidity and mortality in women. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of spousal violence, various types of spousal violence, and the factors associated with it among reproductive age group women. Materials and Methods: This was an analytical cross-sectional study conducted in the Urban Health Training Center area of a tertiary care teaching hospital in Nagpur, India, among married women between 15 and 49 years of age who were selected using systematic random sampling. The data was collected from a sample of 373 women by face-to-face interview and analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) v21. Results: The prevalence of spousal violence among reproductive age group (15–49 years) women was found to be 59.7%, with emotional violence (54.1%) being the most common, followed by physical (51.2%) and sexual (43.4%) violence in that order. Regular alcohol consumption of husband had the highest odds of spousal violence among women (odds ratio [OR] 12.51, 95% confidence interval [CI] 6.51–24.03). Other factors associated with spousal violence among reproductive age group women were early age at marriage, literacy and employment of women and husband, lack of emotional support from the family members, and dowry-related problems in the family. Conclusion: A multifaceted approach including legal measures, empowerment of women, and sociocultural factors involving families, institutions, governmental, nongovernmental, and civil society organizations is the need of the hour. Conclusions: High level of antifungal resistance to the three antifungals, especially to voriconazole, is worrisome; however, none of the virulence markers have a significant association with antifungal sensitivity of Candida species. This finding rules out the effect of the virulence of the pathogen on drug response. Background: The incidence of mycotic infections, especially of Candida, has gradually increased over the past few years. In clinical practice, azoles are the most frequently used antifungal agents and the growing incidence of systemic candidiasis and resistance to antifungals have become a matter of concern worldwide. Virulence factors in Candida spp. may be critical for predicting the response of antifungal drugs. Objectives: This study aimed to identify the relationship between virulence factors and the antifungal susceptibility of Candida. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 55 Candida strains isolated from vulvovaginal samples of patients in the reproductive age group, presenting with signs and symptoms of vulvovaginitis in a large tertiary care hospital in central India. Results: A majority of the Candida were sensitive to three tested drugs (89% to amphotericin B, 76.4% to fluconazole, and 89.1% to voriconazole). Resistance to fluconazole was highest at 16.4%. No significant relationships were identified between antifungal sensitivity of the three azoles with biofilm formation, phospholipase, or proteinase synthesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This study was conducted to compare the disease severity of COVID-19 in pregnant and nonpregnant females of reproductive age group and to evaluate the effect of COVID-19 on neonatal outcome. Materials and Methods: The present prospective observational study was conducted at a tertiary care center in northern India over a period of 6 months. Females of reproductive age group (15--44 years) that were admitted in COVID isolation ward with reverse transcription--polymerase chain reaction-positive COVID-19 disease were included in the study and followed till discharge. Results: Among the 60 females of reproductive age group, 41.67% (25) were pregnant and 58.34% (35) were nonpregnant. The median duration of hospitalization among pregnant and nonpregnant females was 9 and 8.5 days, respectively. The severity of infection among pregnant and nonpregnant females was as follows: asymptomatic + mild disease 96% (24) and 77.14% (27) and moderate + severe disease 4% (1) and 22.86% (8), respectively. There were no maternal mortalities. Forty percent (10) of pregnant females had lower segment cesarean section (LSCS) and 32% (8) had normal vaginal delivery. There were 8 preterm, 6 full-term, 3 early-term, and 1 late-term deliveries. Twelve newborns had normal birth weight, 4 were low birth weight (LBW), 1 was very LBW, and 2 intrauterine deaths IUD were reported. No case of neonatal death or neonatal asphyxia was reported. Conclusion: In comparison to nonpregnant women with COVID-19 pneumonia, the infected pregnant females had mild or no respiratory symptoms, and none developed severe respiratory compromise or required intensive care. Background: In India, breast and cervical cancers account for two-fifths of all cancers and are predominantly prevalent among women in the reproductive age group. The Government of India recommended screening of breast and cervical cancer among women aged 30 years and over. This study examines the socio-economic and regional variations of breast and cervical screening among Indian women in the reproductive age. Methods: A full sample of 707,119 women aged 15–49 and a sub-sample of 357,353 women aged 30–49 from National Family Health Survey-5 (2019-21) were used in the analysis. Self-reported ever screening for breast and cervical cancer for women aged 15–49 and women aged 30–49 were outcome variables. A set of socio-economic and risk factors associated with breast and cervical cancer screening were used as the predictors. Logistic regression was used to understand the significant correlates of cancer screening and, concentration index and concentration curve were used to assess the socio-economic inequality in breast and cervical cancer screening. Results: The proportion of breast and cervical cancer screening among women aged 30–49 were 877 and 1965 per 100,000 women respectively. Cancer screening was lower among women who were poor, young, had lower educational attainment and resided in rural areas. The concentration index was 0.2 for ever screening of breast cancer and 0.15 for cervical cancer among women aged 30–49 years. Background: In India, breast and cervical cancers account for two-fifths of all cancers and are predominantly prevalent among women in the reproductive age group. The Government of India recommended screening of breast and cervical cancer among women aged 30 years and over. This study examines the socio-economic and regional variations of breast and cervical screening among Indian women in the reproductive age. Methods: A full sample of 707,119 women aged 15–49 and a sub-sample of 357,353 women aged 30–49 from National Family Health Survey-5 (2019-21) were used in the analysis. Self-reported ever screening for breast and cervical cancer for women aged 15–49 and women aged 30–49 were outcome variables. A set of socio-economic and risk factors associated with breast and cervical cancer screening were used as the predictors. Logistic regression was used to understand the significant correlates of cancer screening and, concentration index and concentration curve were used to assess the socio-economic inequality in breast and cervical cancer screening. Results: The proportion of breast and cervical cancer screening among women aged 30–49 were 877 and 1965 per 100,000 women respectively. Cancer screening was lower among women who were poor, young, had lower educational attainment and resided in rural areas. The concentration index was 0.2 for ever screening of breast cancer and 0.15 for cervical cancer among women aged 30–49 years. The study aimed to estimate the relationship between childhood mortality and maternal age using bivariate association and logistic regression using the nationally representative data from India through NFHS-4 (2015–2016). The study reveals that the odds ratio of childhood mortality was comparatively higher among lower aged women (<20 years old) and aged women (30 years and more). The result depicted that childhood mortality was comparatively less among those women of 20–29 age groups and suggests raising maternal education to avoid child marriage and early marriage, not to plan a child at the upper age (>40 years old). Background Anemia is an important public health problem, and accurate estimates may inform policy and programs. Although hemoglobin (Hb) assessment of venous blood via automated hematology analyzers (AHAs) is recommended, most population-based surveys estimate anemia prevalence based on analysis of capillary blood via portable hemoglobinometers. Objectives We aimed to evaluate screening methods for hemoglobin and anemia assessment using paired venous samples. Methods Participants were women 15–40 y who were not pregnant or lactating. Paired venous whole blood samples (n  = 896) were analyzed for hemoglobin (Hb) via portable hemoglobinometer (HemoCue 301) and Coulter Counter AHA. Anemia and severe anemia were defined as Hb <12.0g/dL and <8.0 g/dL, respectively. Bland–Altman methods were used to assess the level of agreement for Hb results (mean difference, SD of differences, limits of agreement). Diagnostic accuracy parameters (sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, accuracy) were calculated to evaluate HemoCue performance compared to the AHA reference, overall and by sociodemographic, nutritional, and metabolic characteristics. Results The estimated anemia prevalence was significantly lower via HemoCue vs. AHA (36.3% compared with 41.6%; P value < 0.0001). The HemoCue had 84.4% accuracy for anemia screening and 98.8% for severe anemia, compared to the AHA reference. The HemoCue had 74.8% sensitivity and 91.2% specificity, compared to AHA. HemoCue sensitivity was higher in women with iron deficiency [serum ferritin (SF) <15.0 μg/L: 81.6% compared with SF ≥15.0 μg/L: 41.3%], and lower in women with metabolic risk factors, including overweight [BMI ≥25.0 kg/m2: 63.9% vs. BMI <25.0 kg/m2: 78.8%], or elevated CRP (>1.0 mg/L: 67.2% vs. ≤1.0 mg/L: 82.9%), trunk fat (>35%: 62.7% vs. ≤35%: 80.1%), or whole-body fat (>35%: 63.9% vs. ≤35%: 80.3%). Conclusions Findings suggest that women with anemia may be incorrectly identified as not anemic via portable hemoglobinometer, and anemia prevalence may be underestimated at the population level. Introduction: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neuro-muscular disorder caused by biallelic variations in Survival Motor Neuron 1 gene (SMN1) located on chromosome 5q13.2. It is the most common hereditary cause of neonatal death. Ethnicity specific studies are desirable for estimating the prevalence of carrier status of this disease in a population. Objectives: To estimate the carrier frequency of SMA among individuals of a reproductive age group in a North Indian cohort. Methods: SMA carrier screening was offered to individuals of a reproductive age group (>18 years) visiting a tertiary care center. Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were the molecular techniques used to detect the carrier status. Results: A total of 198 individuals without a family history of SMA were screened in this study. The carrier frequency of heterozygous deletion of SMN1 gene in our cohort was found to be 1 in 30 (~3/100). Conclusion: The carrier frequency of SMA is high in our country. Background: Amenorrhea is the absence of menstruation in women of reproductive age. The physiology of menstruation and reproduction has a strong correlation with the expression of the X chromosome. Early referral for cytogenetic evaluation is recommended for the identification of underlying chromosomal aberrations in amenorrhoea patients. This study aims to estimate the frequency and types of chromosomal abnormalities in primary amenorrhoea (PA) patients in western India and correlate their hormonal profile and sonographic findings with chromosomal reports. Patients and methods: Clinical features of 100 patients along with their hormonal profile and sonographic findings were recorded. Karyotyping was done after taking informed consent from the patients. Molecular cytogenetic technique was used to confirm marker chromosomes and ring chromosomes. Results: The results revealed 89% of PA with normal female karyotype (46,XX) and 11% with different abnormal karyotypes. Majority of females with normal karyotype were having Mullerian defects and among them most of them were categorized under Rokitansky syndrome. Among the abnormal karyotype constituents, 27.3% numerical abnormalities, all were Turner syndrome; pure and mosaic. Four cases (36.4%) showed male (XY) karyotype. The other four cases (36.4%) showed structural abnormalities, among which three cases showed X-associated structural abnormality and one case showed balanced translocation. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the need for cytogenetic analysis as an integral part of the diagnostic protocol in the case of PA for precise identification of chromosomal abnormalities; and for appropriate reproductive management. Introduction: Thyroid dysfunctions are among the most common diseases in women of reproductive age group. Thyroid hormone receptors are present on oocytes which indicate that thyroid hormones may influence ovarian functions. Serum Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is secreted from growing granulosa cells of ovaries. Serum AMH concentrations are used to evaluate ovarian reserve in females. Aim: To find the association between ovarian reserve, measured by AMH concentration and thyroid functions in women with infertility. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on a total of 78 infertile females, in Department of Biochemistry at Government Medical College, Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, India, from July 2021 to December 2021. The involved women with infertility in the age group of 20-40 years attending the infertility clinic, were included in the study. Participants were divided into two groups based on whether the serum AMH value was <1 ng/mL (lower than low normal ovarian reserve) or ≥1 ng/mL (low normal to normal ovarian reserve). The blood samples were processed for Serum Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), free Triiodothyronine (fT3), free Thyroxine (fT4), Prolactin and AMH. The median values of TSH and fT4 levels were compared in the subgroups of patients defined by the level of serum AMH i.e., serum AMH value <1 ng/mL, and serum AMH value ≥1 ng/mL. Chi-square test was used to establish the association between the categorical variables. results: Based on serum AMH values, 22 (28%) females had below normal ovarian reserve i.e., serum AMH value <1 ng/mL, and 56 (72%) females had low normal to normal ovarian reserve i.e., serum AMH value ≥1 ng/mL. The mean age of participants with AMH <1 ng/mL was 33.23±4.28, which was significantly higher than those with AMH value ≥1 ng/mL (p-value=0.002). Serum TSH value was significantly higher in the subgroup of participants with AMH <1 ng/mL, the value being 4.75 mIU/L and was lower (2.8 mIU/L) in the subgroup of participants with AMH ≥1 ng/mL (p-value=0.002). conclusion: In conclusion, the present study found the highly significant difference in serum TSH values in the two groups based on whether the serum AMH value was <1 ng/mL and ≥1 ng/mL suggesting that subclinical hypothyroidism has negative impact on the female fertility.
