Understanding the impact of climate change on the vegetation cover in the past is crucial for predicting the future warming scenario and its consequences. The present study integrates biotic (palynological analysis) and abiotic proxy (sediment chemistry, clay mineral assemblages and grain size end member (EM) analysis) records in a chronologically constrained sedimentary sequence from the southeastern part of the Mahanadi River delta to reconstruct the hydroclimate since 2600 years. The Mahanadi delta sediments are primarily derived from felsic rock source possibly composed of granites or granulites. The dominance of herbaceous taxa, high aridity index and deposition of fine grain (EM1) sediment possibly suggest a relatively cold and dry climate in the study region during ~2600–2100 cal yr BP corresponding to the Iron Age Cold Period (IACP). Presence of diverse mangrove and tree taxa, deposition of coarser sediment (EM3) and relatively high abundance of secondary clay minerals possibly indicate high precipitation associated with the Roman Warm Period (RWP, ~2100–1800 cal yr BP). A decline in mangroves, dominance of herbaceous taxa and high deposition of fine grain (EM2) sediment from ~1800 to 1300 cal yr BP may indicate a relatively drier climate coinciding with the Dark Age Cold Period (DACP). High moisture index and an increased value of Rb/Sr during ~1300 cal yr BP may suggest a wet phase with the onset of the Medieval Climatic Anomaly (MCA) and later shifted to an arid climate during ~1100–800 cal yr BP. After ~800 cal yr BP, a sharp decline in all weathering indices and vegetation cover, dominance of illite indicates a relatively dry climate which could mark the Little Ice Age (LIA, ~800–300 cal yr BP). A small increase in the terrestrial flux, as well as the weathering indices after ~300 cal yr BP, may suggest the onset of recent warming. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• The source of the foreland basin sediments remain stable during the past 2 Ma. • The Lesser Himalayan and Higher Himalayan sources supplied sediments to the foreland basin. • Climate change controlled the weathering processes in the source region along the MPT. Tectonic uplift and climate change play a pivotal role in controlling silicate weathering in the source region. Being adjacent to the hinterland, the sediments of the Himalayan foreland basin (HFB) hold an excellent archive to elucidate weathering link with climate and uplift. In this study, we present geochemical records of major, trace and rare earth elements, clay mineral compositions as well as the environmental magnetic and stable carbon isotope composition (δ13C) of siliciclastic sediments of the HFB over the past 2.0 Ma. These records have been used to link silicate weathering with global climate change along the Mid-Pleistocene Transition (MPT) period. The source rock compositions are characterized by selected elemental ratios, i.e., Cr/Th, Th/Sc, Th/Co and La/Sc as well as other geochemical proxies such as Al 2 O 3 /TiO 2 and TiO 2 /Zr, suggesting a felsic source rock composition. The enriched LREE pattern of Chondrite-normalised REE with a negative Europium anomaly also attributes to felsic source rock composition. All these inferences suggest that most of the studied sediments were derived from mixed sources of the Higher Himalayan rocks and the Lesser Himalayan crystalline regions. A declining trend in kaolinite/(illite + chlorite) ratios, decreasing values of geochemical weathering indices (such as Rb/Sr and CIA), a decrease in magnetic susceptibility and gradual depleted value of δ13C indicate a decrease in chemical weathering of the siliciclastic rocks in the source region, which is most probably associated with the global climate change from warm-humid to cold-dry condition along the MPT. The asymmetric short – and long-run relationships between BRICS stock markets are examined using monthly stock price data from January 2001 through December 2014. The asymmetric co-integration analysis confirms the presence of a long-run association between the BRICS stock markets; where, the speed of adjustment to the negative shocks is higher and statistically significant for the Brazil-India and China-India pairs, which indicates quick adjustment of stock prices to bad news compared to good news. Conversely, the speed of adjustment for Indian and South African stock markets is higher for positive shocks, while the relationship between the stock markets pair of Russia and South Africa is linear. The results of asymmetric error correction model (AECM) reveal evidence of bidirectional causality between China-India, India-South Africa and South Africa-Russia, while unidirectional causality runs from the Indian to Brazilian stock market. Thus, we can safely conclude that the Indian stock market has long-run and short-run relationships with most of the other stock markets. The aromatic group of Asian cultivated rice is a distinct population with considerable genetic diversity on the Indian subcontinent and includes the popular Basmati types characterized by pleasant fragrance. Genetic and phenotypic associations with other cultivated groups are ambiguous, obscuring the origin of the aromatic population. From analysis of genome-wide diversity among over 1,000 wild and cultivated rice accessions, we show that aromatic rice originated in the Indian subcontinent from hybridization between a local wild population and examples of domesticated japonica that had spread to the region from their own center of origin in East Asia. Most present-day aromatic accessions have inherited their cytoplasm along with 29-47% of their nuclear genome from the local Indian rice. We infer that the admixture occurred 4,000-2,400 years ago, soon after japonica rice reached the region. We identify aus as the original crop of the Indian subcontinent, indica and japonica as later arrivals, and aromatic a specific product of local agriculture.
