The article presents a study aimed at analyzing patient population to determine whether anatomic or plaque characteristics could predict increased risk of stroke in patients undergoing carotid artery stenting. It concludes that degree of internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis and aortic arch calcification may be linked to an increased risk of a perioperative neurologic event after carotid artery stenting but that arch type and ICA/common carotid artery (CCA) angulation are not.
