The article offers information on hybrid-composite beams (HCBs), developed by the HC Bridge Co. LLC. It mentions the completion of the first permanent highway installation of HCBs on High Road Bridge in Lockport Township, Illinois. The three main subcomponents of HCBs are fiber-reinforced polymer shell, compression reinforcement and tension reinforcement. Compared to traditional concrete or steel beams, HCBs are said to be stronger, lighter and more corrosion-resistant.
