CHEMICAL plants ,STORAGE tanks ,STEEL tanks ,EXPLOSIVES - Abstract
Many chemical plants use flammable liquids as raw materials or produce them. In both cases, the flammable medium is most likely need to be stored. One option is to use storage tanks. Currently, in Hungary, the fire and explosion protection requirements for upright cylindrical steeltanks are laid down in MSZ 9910-2:1993 standard and for horizontal cylindrical steeltanks in MSZ 9909-3:1998, supplemented by the MSZ 15633 series of standards. These standards have not changed in the last 30 years and have not followed the innovations in the field, unlike NFPA 497:2021; NFPA 59A:2023; API RP 505:2018; Area Classification Code for Installations Handling Flammable Fluids Part 15:2005 (IP 15); Health and Safety Executive (HSE) HSG 176 Storage of flammable liquid in tanks, 2nd edition:2015 and EIC 60079-10-1:2008 standard. The aim of this study is to compare the conclusions of these standards and to propose a new standard that could be applied in Hungary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DAIRY product contamination ,MILK contamination ,CONSUMERS ,AFLATOXINS ,FEED contamination ,NUTRITION surveys ,DAIRY products ,RAW milk - Abstract
Aflatoxin contamination can appear in various points of the food chain. If animals are fed with contaminated feed, AFB1 is transformed--among others--to aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) metabolite. AFM1 is less toxic than AFB1, but it is still genotoxic and carcinogenic and it is present in raw and processed milk and all kinds of milk products. In this article, the chronic exposure estimation and risk characterization of Hungarian consumers are presented, based on the AFM1 contamination of milk and dairy products, and calculated with a probabilistic method, the two-dimensional Monte-Carlo model. The calculations were performed using the R plugin (mc2d package) integrated into the KNIME (Konstanz Information Miner) software. The simulations were performed using data from the 2018-2020 food consumption survey. The AFM1 analytical data were derived from the Hungarian monitoring survey and 1,985 milk samples were analyzed within the framework of the joint project of the University of Debrecen and the National Food Chain Safety Office of Hungary (NÉBIH). Limited AFM1 concentrations were available for processed dairy products; therefore, a database of AFM1 processing factors for sour milk products and various cheeses was produced based on the latest literature data, and consumer exposure was calculated with the milk equivalent of the consumed quantities of these products. For risk characterization, the calculation of hazard index (HI), Margin of Exposure, and the hepatocellular carcinoma incidence were used. The results indicate that the group of toddlers that consume a large amount of milk and milk products are exposed to a certain level of health risk. The mean estimated daily intake of toddlers is in the range of 0.008-0.221 ng kg
-1 bw day-1 ; the 97.5th percentile exposure of toddlers is between 0.013 ng kg-1 bw day-1 and 0.379 ng kg-1 bw day-1 , resulting in a HI above 1. According to our study, the exposure of older age groups does not pose an emergent health risk. Nevertheless, the presence of carcinogenic compounds should be kept to a minimum in the whole population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The law academy in Máramarossziget, founded in 1837, was shut down in 1854 by Minister of the Interior Bach because of its participation in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. It reopened its gates to the students only in 1869. The law-academy flourished in the 20th century, having more than 120 students. It received support and sponsorship from the Prime Minister himself. However, the Great War sealed its fate. Two thirds of the whole faculty and most of the students were enrolled in the army. This tragedy was followed by an even greater one: the Spanish flu epidemic. Also, the Russian army ravaged the land, followed by the regime change. After the Peace Dictate, the law academy became part of the Romanian Kingdom's territory. The faculty accepted the invitation of the town of Hódmezővásárhely and relocated itself to Hungary in 1921. Unfortunately, because of its unfavourable financial state and the decision of the Reformed Diocese of Tiszántúl, the Minister of Cults and Education closed down the academy for good in 1923. This was the last law academy founded by the church. Its rightful successor became the law academy of Kecskemét, one that was acknowledged nation-wide by the Reformed Church of Hungary. The Pentezug Wildhorse Reserve, located in the Hortobágy National Park, Hungary, has one of the biggest ex situ populations of Przewalski's horses and aims to preserve its landscape and to study this subspecies. Between September and November 2018, 79 faecal samples were collected from Przewalski's horses. The McMaster, Willis flotation, natural sedimentation and coproculture methods were applied to all the samples. Results showed an average level of 1287 eggs per gram (EPG), which is a high faecal egg-shedding level. All the samples were positive for strongyle-type eggs (100%). There were no statistical differences regarding the EPG values between different harems of the population. The same happened when considering sexes, ages, lactating status or when bachelors are compared with harem members. Cyathostominae were dominant, when compared to Strongylinae and Tricostrongylidae, and 15 different morphological infective third-stage larvae types and/or species belonging to the order Strongylida were identified. The subfamily Cyathostominae was prevalent in 100% of the horses. Strongylus vulgaris was the most prevalent strongylin (40.5%). Additionally, 27.8% were positive for Parascaris sp. and 2.5% showed Oxyuris equi in their faeces. This study revealed that there is a higher prevalence of Triodontophorus serratus and Poteriostomum spp. in juveniles. Horses with S. vulgaris showed lower levels of EPG. This was the first study involving this population, showing 100% prevalence of intestinal parasites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MARKET design & structure (Economics) , *MARKET power , *EMERGING markets , *INTERNATIONAL economic integration , *CAPITAL investments - Abstract
From the 2000's until today, much has changed on the Hungarian electricity wholesale market. In this article the authors present an overview of market liberalisation efforts of the past 15 years across different market segments (supply side, trade); how and when barriers were eliminated and conditions of real wholesale market competition emerged in the Hungarian power market. The efficiency of market opening is evaluated according to different areas including development of investments and prices, role of imports and, in connection with the latter, security of supply. Unbundling and privatisation was key for creating the proper market structure as the basis of liberalization. The new power market laws (in 2001 and 2008) and the abolishment of LTCs in 2008 were important factors to facilitate competition. Access to import capacities also played a key role. A major element in market opening was the establishment of the Hungarien Power Exchange (HUPX), bringing transparent price signals for Hungarian and Balkan market participants. Though Hungary has come a long way towards regional market integration (mainly through market couplings), a significant spread still remains between Hungarian and (the reference) German power prices. Objective. In this study the alteration of endothelial function, arterial stiffness and autoantibodies was investigated in patients with UCTD.Methods. Thirty-one patients with UCTD were included in this prospective study. All the patients remained in the UCTD stage during the average 3.8 years follow-up period. The onset of UCTD was denoted as UCTD1, while the end of the follow-up period was called UCTD2. Flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD), carotid intima–media thickness (IMT), autoantibodies [such as anti-SSA, anti-SSB, anti-DNA, anti-RNP, anti-CCP, aCL, anti-oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) and AECA], von Willebrand factor antigen, thrombomodulin (TM), endothelin 1 (ET-1) and lipid parameters were measured.Results. In the UCTD1 stage, high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP) and endothelial cell activation and/or damage markers such as TM, ET-1 and AECA levels were significantly higher compared with controls (controls vs UCTD1: hsCRP, P < 0.0001; TM, P = 0.001; ET-1, P < 0.0001). In the UCTD2 stage, the carotid IMT increased (UCTD1 vs UCTD2, P = 0.01) and FMD further deteriorated (UCTD1 and UCTD2, P = 0.001). In UCTD2 there was a close correlation between the carotid IMT, and duration of the disease (r = 0.612, P < 0.001), the level of TM (r = 0.673, P < 0.001) and anti-oxLDL (r = 0.800, P < 0.001).Conclusion. Our data suggest that the presence of inflammation and autoantibodies provoke endothelial cell activation and/or injury in UCTD patients. The persistent endothelial dysfunction may provoke the development of atherosclerosis. FMD was found to be the most sensitive marker for arterial stiffness, and the increase of IMT clearly indicated the existence of preclinical atherosclerosis in UCTD patients. Decree of Ministry of Health for the enforcement of the Act on Atomic Energy has put special emphasis on the regulation of monitoring for internal exposure in Hungary. The necessarily general prescription of the Decree called for a guidance to assist the work of the competent authority. The Guide was elaborated on the basis of the IAEA Safety Guide No. RS-G-1.2. According to the IAEA Safety Guide the decision factor shall first be determined for the potential radionuclides and practice applied. For routine monitoring the required frequency, method and MDA values, moreover for special monitoring the method and MDA values were derived for over 50 radionuclides considering two basic assumptions: the activity remaining in or excreted from the body could be determined by the given measurement method and the possible underestimation of intake shall be less than a factor of 3 within the monitoring interval. STAY-at-home orders , *COVID-19 , *DEATH rate , *INFECTIOUS disease transmission , *STATISTICAL models - Abstract
There has been a debate on the efficiency of lockdown policies worldwide, and several researchers have studied this aspect by trying to implement different statistical models. The aim of the research was to compare two countries with similar lockdown policies and observe the impact of the total lockdown policy on the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Taking in consideration that the total lockdown in Romania lasted for 52 days and in Hungary for 54 days, we would like to see how the infection rate changed with every week of the lockdown by obtaining an average for every week (7 days) divided by the total lockdown days in each country. The values that we took in consideration are as follows: the daily infected cases, the daily infected cases/million, the daily cases of death and the daily cases of death/million in both countries. We tried to apply the same rule after the end of the total lockdown and observe the outcomes. The results showed that the minimum number of days to observe the effects of total lockdown and the effects after the lockdown was 21 (3 weeks) in both countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

URANIUM ,RADIOACTIVITY ,AIR pollution ,ENVIRONMENTAL impact analysis ,POLLUTION measurement - Abstract
Because of the intensive NATO bombardment of the neighboring region to Hungary, i.e., Vojvodina, North Yugoslavia, air monitoring for detection of depleted uranium particles supposed to be used as a component of bullets was extended to the Southern region of the country. Alpha spectrometry was applied as a sensitive analytical technique able to detect uranium. Though no depleted uranium was detected in air by the sensitive technique of alpha-spectrometry, the increased uranium content in natural ratio as a component of normal soil, natural gas, etc., is suggested to originate from well dispersed dust (2.5 mum size) emitted to the atmosphere by explosions during bombing. This observation is supported by the geographical distribution and the relatively rapid decrease of pollution after the bomb attacks ceased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
