We introduce the forest mapping of the Province of Huelva, made by Manuel Martin-Bolaños between 1941-1951, structured in municipal sheets, and recently digitised by the Eucalyptus Research Centre (CIDEU) of the University of Huelva, which is an important documentary contribution for the geographical research of the Province. The major contributions of this collection (unpublished until now) are, first, its high detail and rigour. Secondly, its date, before the American flight in 1956-1957, which allows to extend the analysis of the landscape evolution. Finally, and in relation to this, the maps were made before the strong expansion of the reforestations. This serves to clarify, from authentic data, the age-old argument about the vegetative covers which were occupied by them. This analysis has been made combining layers. The most relevant conclusion is that the reforestations expanded, in general, on forest treeless land, although there were cases of native Woodland (oaks). The Baldíos in Niebla deserves a special mention, as it was a resource for the poor labourers during lean years, and it was intensely replanted, creating a conflict that produced arsons.
