Abstract

The article presents information on the natural calamities like Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that caused serious life threats. It informs that Tohoku earthquake involved a massive rupture of the plate-boundary fault along which the Pacific plate thrusts under northeastern Honshu, Japan. It further informs that the earthquake is the best instrumentally recorded great earthquake, with extensive global seismic recordings.
