The Particulated Matter emissions, from a diesel vehicles representative sample (light and heavy) in Havana, were statistically characterized. To compare them with The 172/01-MITRANS Resolution, the 611 data gathered were grouped according to the year intervals and they were reprocessed by calculating its confidence limits(p <0.05); a bibliographic search was also done about the regulations in other countries. It was determined that: a) Only 50% of the sample accomplish the national permissible limits; b) The Mitrans resolution sets PM10 limits below the regulations in other countries, excluding Colombia and the European Union (more restriction); c) Heavy vehicles present higher emission values than the light ones and the Coefficient-k values show higher variability than the Opacity ones; d) Light vehicles accomplish the permissible limits in Opacity, while the Heavy ones do not; e) According the estimated confidence intervals and considering the international legislations, new more flexible and realistic Opacity limits are proposed them the projected Brand Standard.
