Guyana has experienced significant economic growth since the discovery of oil off its shores in 2015. The country's economy has quadrupled in size over the past five years, making it the fastest-growing in the world. However, the newfound wealth has not benefited everyone, with rising living costs and meager wages affecting many citizens. President Irfaan Ali faces the challenge of ensuring sustainable growth and equitable gains for all while avoiding the resource curse that has plagued other petrostates. The government has implemented training and apprenticeship programs to provide job opportunities, but there are concerns about the fair distribution of oil wealth and the governance of the natural resource fund.
