The article presents a study on grouper, Serranidae: Epinephelini, larvae identified in the Gulf of Mexico using genetically identified specimens from the Southeast Area Monitoring and Assessment Program (SEAMAP) resource surveys in the Gulf of Mexico. Patterns of tail pigment and lower-jaw pigment consistent within species and species-specific are shown through investigation of genetically identified larvae. The SEAMAP samples identified six species, three species groups and three morphological types.
