The article presents a study which aims to estimate the prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention, examine risk behaviors, and evaluate their role as a bridge population in the spread of these sexually transmitted disease. The study uses a cross-sectional study among 553 clients in commercial sex sites in Escuintla, Guatemala. It is inferred that the place has high prevalence of HIV clients and acts as a bridge for HIV/STI transmission.

The article presents a study that assesses the impact of multilevel sexually transmitted infection, prevention and treatment among sex workers in Guatemala. The study was carried out through an open-enrolment cohort wherein participants undergone a six month STI/HIV screening program, education as well as community-based interventions. The study reveals that a significant increase on the use of condom are achieved which necessitates follow-up activities to sustain intervention and awareness.

We evaluated a rapid point-of-care test for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis in specimens from 278 sex workers attending sexually transmitted infection clinics in Guatemala. The sensitivity and the specificity of the test compared to the results of PCR were 62.96% and 99.60%, respectively. The test performed moderately well as a screening tool in a context in which clinical follow-up visits are infrequent.
