The article presents a study which focuses on the abundance and rate of increase of Megaptera novaeangliae (humpback whales) in West Greenland. It mentions that an aerial line transect surveys of the density of humpback whales which were conducted between 1984 to 2007 were used for the estimation of the rate of increase on the summer feeding ground. It says that a theoretical growth rate of a humpback whale population ranging from one percent to 11% is revealed by the matrix model. Moreover, the development of a correction for availability was based on time-depth-recorder information.
