ART theory , *PHILOSOPHERS , *ANECDOTES - Abstract
Philosophy, which is based on knowing the basis, affects the thoughts and behaviors of society through philosophers. This effect is such an effect that; It not only sheds light on the period the philosopher was in but also continues to illuminate the centuries after. Enlightenment and awakening have manifested themselves in different ways in different ways. The most conspicuous form has taken place in works of art, this is due to the fact that art appeals to more than one sense and is easier to perceive. In this study, the most famous representative of Diogenes, known as "Diogenes of Sinop", founded by Antisthenes, one of the students of Socrates in Ancient Greece, it has been discussed with the way of thinking of Diogenes and the way he applied it to his life. In the lampshade, which was designed with the name "Laterna", in which Diogenes, who tried to illuminate the society he was in with his ideas, was explained with different anecdotes and visuals, two different disciplines were brought together by ensuring the meeting of art and philosophy, and the effect of philosophy on art was tried to be shown. Definition: The concept of space, ubiquitous among all humans from birth, has changed profoundly in the course of the history of Western civilization, the only one to be considered here. An important contribution to this change was the theoretical elaborations of the philosophers of nature and mathematicians, started in Ancient Greece. Here, the process is considered up to Newton, when the concept of space for physicists, who then replaced the traditional philosophers of nature, took on a connotation that remained substantially undisputed for two centuries—that of absolute space. In this paper I discuss the relationship between Cornelius Castoriadis and Ancient Greece by focusing on the meaning of tradition and on the possibility to produce new philosophical and political reflections through it. I analyze the general features of his reading and I argue that his interest also develops in many texts and forms. I distinguish different dimensions of this relationship, which does not concern only the analysis of Greek society but also that of philosophers and their works. I clarify that Castoriadis turns to ancient authors' texts in order to philosophize through them and to develop his own thinking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ARTISTIC creation , *MIMESIS , *FEMINIST art , *FEMINISTS , *IMITATIVE behavior , *PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
Mimesis, as an aesthetic concept, has evolved and transformed from the point of view of many philosophers, practitioners in theater and other artistic branches, and artists since Ancient Greece, but it has essentially been a concept that emphasizes the imitation and re-creation features of art. Handled as a creation of the artistic by imitating the truth, mimesis has entered a process of questioning again to determine more political, more social and cultural points of what needs to be addressed in the imitation and re-creation process. In the times when universal truths began to be questioned, the origin of imitation and the way it should be handled became one of the main topics of feminist artists and writers. The fact that mimetic activity has come to this day through the filter of patriarchal society, has been criticized in feminist works and thus led feminist artists to bring in distinctive features to the forefront in terms of subject, form, language, and staging elements especially in feminist theater plays. This study, which attempts to inspire future studies, points out the place and importance of contemporary feminist concepts such as gender in terms of acting, stage text and staging forms, based on feminist examples in our country and the world. The book "Las Griegas. Poetas, oradoras y filósofas" by Mariana Gardella Hueso focuses on recovering the voice of women who lived in ancient Greece between the 7th and 4th centuries BC. The author argues that these women have not received the attention they deserve in the philosophical field and proposes to call them "thinkers". The book examines the participation of women in the public sphere and highlights figures such as Sappho and Cleobulina of Lindos, who used writing and riddles as alternative forms of communication. It also focuses on Pythagorean philosophers, such as Theano of Crotona. The text presents a historical-philosophical essay on the women thinkers of Ancient Greece and their place in the philosophical tradition, including the discussion on the authorship of the writings attributed to these women and the marginalization they have experienced in philosophy. PERCEPTION (Philosophy) ,AESTHETIC experience ,AESTHETICS ,LANGUAGE research ,PHILOSOPHERS ,BRONZE - Abstract
The theory of aesthetic perception، which was called in Greek thought as (aesthetics)، which means its translation (perception)، as it is called aesthetic experience in aesthetics and art، which is the perception of beautiful things، and obtaining an artistic perception of high taste، and it is a recent appearance، the release of judgment My beauty on things through our external sensory perceptions، or by experience and aesthetic experience، so we have the perception of the thing، that is، the perception of the thing، and get a picture of the talking and narrating soul from the external reality. The theory of aesthetic perception is one of the philosophical aesthetic theories، which the philosophers and scholars of aesthetics were interested in، whether in the civilization of the East and Greece through the modern era، and up to contemporary philosophy، by means of aesthetic perception، and through the link that exists between the perceiver and the person (artist)، Between the perceptive and it (the thing)، and whether this thing is material or immaterial، it is possible to reach a creative work with aesthetic value This is what will become clear to us through research in the theory of aesthetic perception in the philosophy of beauty، starting from studying the concept of theory in language and idiomatically، and researching the historical roots to know the basis and roots of the theory، passing through the founders of this theory، and the reasons that led to the emergence of this theory، up to its intellectual extension And how to take care of it، concluding with criticism of the theory. EDUCATIONAL relevance , *PHILOSOPHERS , *EDUCATION research , *SUBSIDIES , *INDIVIDUALITY , *VIRTUE ethics - Abstract
This article deals with a classic of educational reflection, both from the point of view of research and from the point of view of teaching practice: the philosopher Aristotle from the contributions of Historical-Critical Pedagogy. It is not a matter of literally "applying" the views of this thinker in a hasty and uncritical way to school and research in contemporary education without major concerns. On the contrary, we understand that the study of Aristotelian work, as well as of Greek society, can provide subsidies for understanding the importance of the classics in education. This text deals with the social and historical bases of Greece and the elements present in the work "Ethics to Nicomaches", which help to understand the particularity of the educational dimension and the relevance of human culture developed for the development of individualities in formation. POLITICAL philosophy , *HUMAN behavior , *SOCIAL services , *PHILOSOPHERS , *JUSTICE , *SOCIAL bonds , *PROCEDURAL justice - Abstract
To reflect on the political thought of classical Greece is to return to the ethical meanings uttered by philosophers of that time, such as Plato and his disciple Aristotle, whose interests in the rational understanding of human behavior were nothing more than a diaphanous concern for the attainment of well-being of individuals within Greek cities, where the formation of ideas, institutions, and associations was considered of great importance. In fact, the social bonds and the configuration of attitudes that favor the objective of social welfare imply a reciprocal attention to the concepts of ethics and politics, whereas the incorporation of actions governed by the reason determines the relations between individuals of the same nation. Thus, this article presents the Aristotelian meaning of justice, to clarify the importance of this virtue in the ethical-political nexus of classical Greece, a period witnessed by Aristotle himself. POLITICAL oratory , *OATHS , *SACRAMENTS , *PHILOSOPHERS , *LINGUISTS , *ROMANIES - Abstract
The article analyzes the contributions of the linguist Émile Benveniste and the philosopher Giorgio Agamben about blasphémie and oaths in order to discuss the implications for dealing with ethical and political aspects of speech. Benveniste's text "La blasphémie et l'euphémie" and his publications about oaths in Rome and Greece are studied and examined along with Agamben's The Sacrament of Language: An Archaeology of the Oath. The text concludes that blasphémie and oaths are remnants of a performative language experience in which there was full correspondence among words, actions and the world. As such, they are privileged phenomena to reveal how men, by enunciating and becoming a subject, becomes also responsible for what they speak. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

POETRY (Literary form) ,POETICS ,PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
This essay explores the work of contemporary French philosopher Alain Badiou in relation to its politico-aesthetic program. Challenging the metaphysical tradition, Badiou holds that philosophy begins "uniquely in what takes place". Following Jacques Lacan, with his own spatial twist, Badiou refutes an ontology of pure identity and argues that the subject is never only itself, "but also its place," that being comes forth by way of historical localization, and that every radical historical transformation originates in an "evental site." In this process, poetry has a crucial role to play. An event comes about as a result of its naming or nomination: "poetic inventions" such as "May 68" or (in Greece) "To Polytechnio" have served, retrospectively, to "fix" an event, to anchor it in language and thus summon into being something affirmative for future generations. The essay concludes with some suggestions as to the ways in which Badiou's poetics can be said to constitute a radical critical practice for cultural theory today. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EMERGENCE (Philosophy) , *ANCIENT philosophy , *PHILOSOPHERS , *PHILOSOPHY - Abstract
In this article, I introduce the concept of the triple transformation, which ensues from my examination of What is Philosophy? by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. The concept applies to the philosopher's intuitive method, it defines more precisely his or her activity that consists of creating concepts in order to bring forth new events. This activity cannot be carried out by merely turning the thought of opinion, which shapes our ordinary lived experience, to philosophical concepts. The exercise and experience of the creative thinking of philosophy implies a liberation from the constraints of opinion, by way of a triple transformation. I address the triple transformation from two different perspectives: first, in connection with the emergence of philosophy in ancient Greece with regard to Plato as a member of the democratic city-state of Athens; second, with regard to an individual subject in its own right, to its brain or mind. DEFINITION (Logic) , *PHILOSOPHY of religion , *ANCIENT philosophers , *PHILOSOPHERS , *SENSORY perception - Abstract
Love can be described as the desire of the opposite sex. This word is theorized with this most known meaning, in the philosophy and we it's the earliest records points Ancient Greece. Compared to literature or others, philosophy is one of the least dealing disciplines with love. Philosophy's limited discourses about love belong to the ancient Greek philosophers, especially Plato. The study will focus on the concepts and evaluations of three philosophers who have written work on love by centring on Plato. It was started with Empodekles who was the first to make the definition of love in philosophy. He is also important for inspiring Plato's ideas that mentioned especially at the Feast dialogue. The discussion of the speakers about love, in the Feast, is essential in order to understand many definitions of ancient Greece and later. The study, in addition to all, also tries to determine; looking at the love and woman, the projection of the concepts at the period in the intellectual environment. The way to understand this unity that combines love with philosophy and religion passes from understanding the perception of the term and both of these definitions. For this reason, these three names in Ancient Greece constitute an important aspect for the readings on spiritual love. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The text characterizes the master-disciple relationship, which is interpreted in a historical context (of ancient Greece) and the contemporary one. In the first case it refers to the connection taking place between Socrates and his disciples (and especially between him and Plato). In the second case the author presents a study of one case of a supposed master-disciple relationship as a typical case study. He comes to a conclusion that the occurrence of such a relationship depends on two persons: a master and a disciple. When both of them agree that there was, there is and, maybe, there will be such a connection between them, it can be proclaimed with certainty that such a relationship existed or can start to exist. However, when any party of the supposed relationship is of an opinion that it has never existed, it is necessary to concede that (s)he is right, since it is not proper when one party maintains against the second party's will - or without his/her knowledge - that there was a master-disciple relationship between them. TRANSLATING & interpreting in literature ,GREEK language terms & phrases ,PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
The much-quoted Statement, that Castellio compared his own position against Calvin in the toleration controversy to that of a "mosquito against the elephant," is originally from Stefan Zweig. Zweig referred to the copy of Castellios De haereticis an sint persequendi (1554), which the Marquis d'Oria gave to the Basel lawyer, Boniface Amerbach, after adding a personal dedication. Since Castellio did not write this dedication, it also contains no statement concerning his position in the struggle against Calvin. Zweigs comparison is based on an incorrect translation of two Greek words by Ferdinand Buisson - which Zweig probably copied without double-checking. The two words should be translated not as "the mosquito against," but as "the mosquito for the elephant." They refer not to the toleration controversy between Castellio and Calvin, but rather were written by d'Oria in the year 1557/58 in Basel to emphasize the low value of his gift to the venerable Amerbach. Among our earliest extant references to the word `philosophize' is an unfamiliar one, from the mythographer Herodorus of Pontic Heraclea, whose son Bryson associated with Plato and Aristotle. A Byzantine compiler quotes Herodorus, probably from his book on Heracles, as saying that his hero `philosophized until death' (φιλοσοφήσας μέχρι θανάτου, FGrHist 31 F 14). This is a surprising claim in light of the fifth/fourth-century b.c. view of Heracles as long-toiling but not intellectual. Euripides' Licymnius characterizes him as `unimpressive and unadorned, good to the greatest degree, confined from all sophia in action, unversed in talking' (φαῦλον ἄκομψον, τὰ μέγιστ᾽ ἀγαθόν, | πᾶσαν ἐν ἔργῳ περιτεμνόμενον | σοφίαν, λέσχης ἀτρίβωνα, fr. 473 TGF). Heracles is thus explicitly distinguished from those who strive for dialectical understanding or theoretical knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

POLITICAL philosophy ,POLITICAL systems ,DEMOGRAPHY ,POLITICAL doctrines ,PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
This article discusses various forms of governments that shape cities and countries. Greek thinkers like Plato, Socrates and Aristotle argued that politics is the core of human affairs because the Polis, the Greek city, is sufficient in its size and complexity to allow the full display of human characteristics in their possible excellence, or virtue. The central place of the city means that the Greek discussion of forms of government focuses on it; the fact that the city encompasses the full range of human virtue means that the discussion, if true, is in principle adequate for understanding larger units such as our contemporary countries. Most governments will be either democracies or oligarchies, with varying degrees of pretension to excellence. Aristotle bases his discussion not only on the intellectual possibilities but on examining the forms of government of many cities, of which only his description of the Athenian constitution fully survives. The Roman empire was succeeded by various kingships and religious empires. The new element was revealed religion, especially Christianity and Islam. The place of priests and the link between rule and worship always was important in Greek cities and in Rome.

PHILOSOPHERS ,FAMILIES ,PARENT-child relationships ,ANCIENT philosophy ,HARMONY (Philosophy) - Abstract
In this chapter, the author presents an account of life in ancient Greece. Born in mainland Greece, in a settlement close to Athens to an aristocratic family, the young philosopher finds himself restricted by his family and immediate circle. Going to school in Athens, where he falls under the spell of a Socratic figure to which he is deeply attached, frees him up a bit. But he does not see eye to eye with his father, who has in mind a military life for him and has lined up an arranged marriage for him to consolidate an intra-aristocratic alliance. Contrary to his father's wishes, he leaves the mainland not for a military career but for Croton in southern Italy, where he joins Pythagoras' community. He is ecstatic. For the first time there he feels truly at home. The nights and days, the discussions and celebrations have a magical quality about them. Action from this standpoint is radically free and sufficient to obtain its ends, no longer necessitated or bound by the dictates of quantum natural law or karma or the presence and efficacy of the past. In this way, the essential creativity and freedom of men and women sustain the totality of master-slave relationships and the suffering, oppression and so on that characterize the relative demi-real world of avidya.
