Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the therapeutic effectiveness of loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) in patients with vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) and history of cervical cancer in Greece. It mentions that VAIN represents one percent of lower genital tract intraepithelial neoplasias. However, it is being diagnosed in younger women associated with the increased incidence of human papilloma virus (HPV) infections of the lower genital tract.

Abstract

The article presents a study which aims to assess the effectiveness of the loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) in patients from Greece who have vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN). The study made use of a high frequency electrosurgery unit in performing the LEEP procedure to 23 women with VAIN. The results indicate that in treating VAIN, LEEP may establish an excisional method and can provide an explainable lesion specimen in a couple of minutes.
