Migrant women encounter new environments, opportunities, human behaviors, communication manners, traditions-customs and limitations in the country they migrate to, which may be completely different from their own countries. All these new situations create the need for employment, integration, education and social reintegration. Education of migrant women, however, has a strategic importance for the reasons such as being productive, more sensitive to society, more adaptable, and taking first-degree responsibility in the care and education of children. The aim of the study was to evaluate the views of migrant women about their lives in terms of employment, adaptation, education and social reintegration. The study adopted phenomenological research design, one of the qualitative research methods. The data were collected through the "Sustainable Personal Development-Lifelong Learning Form". The participants were selected using the snowball sampling method and comprised 96 immigrant women in such countries as Turkey, Australia, Greece, Switzerland, France, Germany, Netherlands, and the USA. The data covered information about the reasons for their migration such as marriage, refuge, work and education have participated in the research. The data were analyzed via the content analysis method. The results revealed that the migrant women were in need of feeling safe and free, success religion, access education for their children, and lead sustainable life as an average human.

Background: Pelvic organ prolapse constitutes a prevalent condition associated with a considerable impact on the quality of life. The utilization of transvaginal mesh surgery for managing POP has been a subject of extensive debate. Globally, trends in TVM surgery experienced significant shifts subsequent to warnings issued by the FDA. Methods: This study aims to explore temporal patterns in transvaginal mesh surgery in the German healthcare system. A comprehensive analysis was conducted on in-patient data from the German Federal Statistical Office spanning 2006 to 2021. A total of 1,150,811 operations, each associated with specific codes, were incorporated into the study. Linear regression analysis was employed to delineate discernible trends. Results: The trends in transvaginal mesh surgery within the anterior compartment exhibited relative stability (p = 0.147); however, a significant decline was noted in all other compartments (posterior: p < 0.001, enterocele surgery: p < 0.001). A subtle increasing trend was observed for uterine-preserving transvaginal mesh surgery (p = 0.045). Conclusion: Surgical trends over the specified timeframe demonstrate how POP management has evolved globally. Notably, despite observed fluctuations, transvaginal mesh surgery remains a viable option, particularly for specific cases with a high risk of relapse and contraindications to alternative surgical approaches. Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is closely related to lipid disorders and increased oxidant stress, and is associated with cardiovascular diseases. Objective: The purpose of this research was to examine thiol/disulfide homeostasis and oxidative stress in MetS patients with postprandial lipemia (PPL) during fasting by considering time-dependent changes in the postprandial period. Methods: Twenty-five patients with MetS and 25 healthy controls underwent a 6-h oral fat tolerance test. Dynamic thiol/disulfide homeostasis (native thiol, disulfide, and total thiol) values and total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), and Oxidative Stress Index (OSI): (TOS/TAS) were evaluated. Results: Increased levels of disulfide, and higher disulfide/native thiol ratio, TOS, and OSI values were observed at fasting and in the postprandial period in MetS compared to the control group, peaking at the 4th hour in both groups (p < 0.05). ROC analysis showed that both fasting and 4th hour disulfide/native thiol ratios exhibited the highest values. Higher disulfide/native thiol ratio values were observed at the 4th hour and higher OSI in the 2nd hour in the upper tertiles for MetS (p < 0.05). Conclusions: An increased disulfide/native thiol ratio and OSI level elevation in MetS may be closely associated with PPL. The disulfide/native thiol ratio in MetS subjects with PPL may play a role for evaluating oxidative stress, especially in postprandial 4th hour. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The gold standard to treat an apical pelvic organ prolapse is the abdominal route via a sacrocolpopexy, which is also reproduced by laparoscopic route. A laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy however, requires surgical expertise. Three‐dimensional (3D) laparoscopy has been developed to overcome the lack of depth perception, that is a known disadvantage of conventional two‐dimensional (2D) laparoscopy. This procedure can accelerate the learning curve and optimize the intra‐, peri‐, and postoperative outcomes. This study aims to compare 3D laparoscopy to traditional 2D laparoscopy for sacrocolpopexy. Methods: Data from 132 patients who underwent a sacrocolpopexy with 2D or 3D laparoscopy in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University, between June 2012 and September 2021, were collected retrospectively. Seventy‐one laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy operations in 2D (n = 23) and 3D (n = 48) group were reviewed and compared regarding the duration of surgery, blood loss and the length of hospital admission as primary objectives. Results: There were no differences in the baseline demographics between the two groups. The estimated blood loss (1.0 (±0.6) g/dL vs 1.7 (±1.0) g/dL, p = 0.010), and duration of surgery (115.4 (±34.7) min. vs 134.7 (±26.2) min., p = 0.012) was significantly better in favor of 3D laparoscopy. The length of hospital stay was comparable in both groups (p = 0.833). Furthermore, no differences were observed between the groups regarding other surgical outcomes. Conclusion: 3D laparoscopy shows a significant benefit in terms of estimated blood loss and surgery duration among complex urogynecological surgeries compared to traditional 2D laparoscopy. We investigate the life satisfaction (LS) trajectories of immigrants in Germany. Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel from 1984 to 2015, we find that recently arrived immigrants are more satisfied with their lives than comparable German natives. However, their LS decreases more over time than that of their German counterparts; that is, we observe a negative years-since-migration (YSM)–LS association. We propose and test five possible explanations for this observation: (1) differential effects of declining health between natives and immigrants, (2) the stability of the YSM–LS association over time and across samples, (3) the effects of non-random sample attrition, (4) immigrants' integration in German society, and (5) differences in the YSM effect across ethnic backgrounds. We find that the decrease in LS among immigrants over time is mostly explained by a combination of deteriorating health and an increase in the importance of health for LS. The extent to which immigrants' LS changes over time in the host country partly depends on their country of origin. The results suggest that there is scope for policies targeted towards immigrants' better utilisation of the healthcare system and their integration in host societies to improve immigrants' LS. Our national poet Mehmet Âkif Ersoy is a man of mission with his works and life. Its high power of representation is a uniting leaven around the themes of homeland, nation, faith and freedom. Sebîlurreshad's editorship and the travels he took through the "Teşkilat-ı Mahsusa" are essential in acquiring this representative mission. His writings and poems in Sebîlüreşâd made him known and loved both in the Ottoman geography and in the world. His duties, which started to come to the fore with his trip to Germany, formalized his unifying and conciliatory mission. Akif makes realistic observations and determinations about the East-West conflict, the backwardness of the East, and the West's policies of fragmentation and exploitation. He does his best to unite the nation along the lines of unity, industriousness and independence by giving place to self-criticism as well as criticism. In this study, the pioneer and representative mission of Mehmet Âkif at the beginning of the national and spiritual awakening and resistance will be examined. Being invited to Berlin by the German Government during World War I, his activities in Berlin, his impressions and the effects of this trip on the years of the National Struggle will be the main centrical points in the process of acquiring this mission. This paper analyzes the privatization of German public and charitable hospitals. The subject is examined from financial and social perspective. In the first step, an introduction about health sector is given. In the second part, the German hospitals' situation is described. In the third part of the paper; it is discussed whether privatization is advantageous or risky by consideration of various indications. Lastly, conclusions and recommendations are presented. Until 1985, making profit in hospitals was forbidden by law in Germany. After introduction of DRGs, this law was cancelled. Before 1985, there were no private clinics except a few for rich people. This situation has changed since 90's. The share of private hospitals reaches 36.2% in 2016. It is expected that privatization is going to grow in the presence of DRGs. Due to the financial gap in hospitals, funds for new investments and operational activity are missing. While many of public and charitable hospitals make loss, private hospitals are profitable. The 4th Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) was introduced in 2011 by Germany. Internationally, it stands for the digitization of industry. It was developed as a future project within the framework of the high-tech strategy. Germany has the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the 4th Industrial Revolution. To do so, new business models and considerable potential for optimization of production and logistics can be tapped. Digital technologies have also widely found their way into civil engineering. The object of the study was to investigate elaborately Industry 4.0, mainly by focusing on the state of digitization in civil engineering field. The developments in civil engineering area in Germany, especially in structural engineering, as a result of the challenging project Industry 4.0 which is characterized by strong individualization of products under conditions of highly flexible production were examined in this study. This paper analyses the impact of regional ethnic concentration on the language proficiency and language use of immigrants. It solves the endogeneity of immigrants’ location choices by exploiting a peculiar episode of the German immigration history: the exogenous placement of guest-workers after WWII, one of the largest guest-worker programs on record. The econometric approach accounts for several sources of measurement error and provides a falsification exercise that hypothetically relocates the most language proficient immigrants into ethnic enclaves to test the extent of cross-regional sorting necessary to render the results purely spurious. The results show a robust negative effect of ethnic concentration on immigrants’ language ability which is driven by differences in contact rates with natives and not by differences in the willingness to integrate. The paper discusses these findings against the background of a language production function and in the light of feasible policy options to foster the language acquisition of immigrants. I analyse the role of ethnic and native human capital – defined, respectively, as the average years of schooling of ethnic groups and of natives within a specific region – and of ethnic concentrations in the educational attainment of second-generation immigrants in Germany. Compared to natives’ children, parents’ education has a small and insignificant effect on second-generation immigrants’ education. Ethnic concentrations have a negative effect, while ethnic capital is insignificant. The effect of native capital, too, is insignificant but much larger in magnitude than the effect of ethnic capital. For women, mother’s education is relatively more important. For men, ethnic concentrations constitute a stronger impediment to educational attainment than for women. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Abstract: Within the scope of this study, the effectiveness of two kinds of instructional support was evaluated with regard to the learner’s interests. Two versions of a simulation program about the respiratory chain were developed, differing only in the kind of tasks provided for instructional support: One version contained problem-solving tasks, the other one contained worked-out examples. The focus was on the learner’s interest in the subject and in computers. The first goal of the study was to find to what extent computer simulations incorporating the different kinds of instructional support have positive effects on situational subject-interest. The second goal was to evaluate the interactions between the learner’s interests and the instructional support with regard to the learning results (subdivided into factual knowledge and understanding). Simulations with worked-out examples were shown to have positive effects on the learner’s situational interest in the subject. This was not found to be the case in simulations with problem-solving tasks. Regardless of the kind of instructional support, learners with little interest in the subject were able to achieve significant gains in factual knowledge. Problem Statement: Using new media in the teaching - learning process, especially when complex subjects are treated, has recently become very important. Among the various new media environments, computer simulations have a special value, as they offer high potential for interactive learning. Combining a high degree of clearness and autonomy, computer simulations are expected to support learners both cognitively and emotionally, and thus lead to increased learning gains. In order to convey complex biological subject matter, this study used a computer simulation and evaluated its effects with regard to cognitive and motivational learning characteristics. The focus was on knowledge gain as a cognitive learning characteristic and interest as a motivational learning characteristic. Purpose of the Study: The study aimed to characterize students according to their knowledge and their interests and to evaluate to what extent computer-based simulations change knowledge structures and interest in complex biological subject matter. Methodology: Our study was conducted in Germany at four schools in Schleswig-Holstein. The random sample group consisted of 167 secondary school pupils in grades 11 to 13. The data was collected in a pre-test/ posttest design with intermediate, computer-based intervention. The pupils completed a test on knowledge and a questionnaire regarding interests in particular topics. Questions on subject-related interests were divided into two domains: questions regarding interests in aspects of human biology and questions regarding interests in biochemical aspects. A latent class analysis was carried out concerning subject-specific interests and developing structures of knowledge. Findings: According to their interests and their knowledge structures, four classes could be identified: Class 1, as the biggest group, contains 45.3 % of all test persons. The characteristics of this class can be summarized as"clueless - interested in human-related issues". Class 2 contains 21.8 % of all test persons. The characteristics of this group can be summarized as "experts - highly interested". Class 3 contains 17.4 % of all test persons. This group could be characterized as "experts - interested in humanrelated issues". Class 4 contains 15 % of all test persons. This group can be characterized as "clueless - not interested".
