We search for the most fundamental kaonic nuclear state, K − pp by employing the reaction p + p→ K + + X at 3.0 GeV incident beam energy. The experiment makes use of the SIS-18 synchrotron and the ~4 π acceptance FOPI apparatus in the cave-B at the GSI, Darmstadt, Germany and aims to collect full kinematics information of the reaction. We look for a signature of the X ( ≡ K − pp) in both missing mass spectrum by measuring K + , and invariant mass spectrum by measuring decay particles; X → Λ + p. The article discusses a study on the use of hysteroscopy to diagnose postpartum clinical endometritis, a condition which can be characterized as an inflammation of the endometrium with uterine exudate, in dairy cows. The common methods of diagnosis of clinical endometritis which give little information about this inflammation are cited, including vaginal examination. Also tackled are the findings of a field trial carried out on a commercial dairy farm in Brandenburg, Germany.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess the optimal amplitude and weight of the newly developed contra-angle handpiece. The handpiece uses piston movement without using an endodontic motor and enables a safe, quick, and reliable canal preparation., Methods: A prototype handpiece was designed. Instrumentation was performed on root canal resin blocks by 20 operators in 3 groups: the prototype handpiece with an H file (a stainless steel #25 manual H file, the piston group), a manually standardized technique with a K file (stainless steel #15-25 K files, the manual group), and a nickel-titanium (NiTi) reciprocating file with an endodontic motor (Reciproc Blue R25 [VDW, Munich, Germany], the NiTi group). Transportation of the canal center line and the time required for preparation were measured and statistically analyzed., Results: The optimal condition was an amplitude of 1.35 mm and a weight of 61.0 g. Transportation of the canal center was observed in all groups. A statistically significant difference was found at 2.0-3.0 mm from the apical foramen between the piston or NiTi group and the manual group, but no significant difference was found between the piston and NiTi groups. The least transportation was found in the NiTi and piston groups. The handpiece with a #25 H file demonstrated a good centering ability, similar to the NiTi file, which enabled speedy preparation. The time required for preparation between the piston or NiTi group and the manual group was statistically different. No significant difference was observed between the piston and NiTi groups (P < .05)., Conclusions: We concluded that the newly designed handpiece achieved efficient canal preparation and negotiation. The Barlett Gentile cyberbullying model (BGCM) posits that correlated anonymity perceptions and the belief in the irrelevance of muscularity for online bullying (BIMOB) predict positive cyberbullying attitudes to predict subsequent cyberbullying perpetration. Much research has shown the BGCM to be the only published theory that differentiates traditional and cyberbullying while validly predicting cyberbullying. So far, however, the cross-cultural ubiquity has gone understudied. Thus, 1,592 adult participants across seven countries (USA, Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, Japan, and Singapore) completed measures germane to the BGCM. Supporting the BGCM, the variables were significantly correlated for the entire sample, participants from independent cultures, and participants from interdependent cultures. However, the relationship between BIMOB and positive cyberbullying attitudes as well as the relationship between positive cyberbullying attitudes and cyberbullying perpetration were stronger for independent cultures. These results suggest that the BGCM postulates are mostly universal, but several relations appear to be culturally different. Theoretical implications are discussed., (© 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.)

The thymus is exceedingly sensitive to stress and undergoes abrupt involution as a result of exposure to strong stress in early childhood. Therefore, thymic involution is often utilized to assess the presence of a stressful environment, such as an environment involving child abuse, in forensic medicine. In recent years, computed tomography (CT) has been commonly used in the daily practice of forensic medicine. We have focused on the thymic volume in postmortem CT images to evaluate the presence of a stressful antemortem environment. We calculated the thymus volume from postmortem CT images of children under six years old and demonstrated that the volume showed a positive correlation with the real weight obtained from an autopsy. The evaluation of thymic volume by CT may make it possible for us to identify child maltreatment. Novel polymorphic sites within the coding region of the human coagulation factor XIII A-subunit (F13A) gene and their haplotypic combinations with the other polymorphic sites thus far reported are presented. Polymorphic bands were detected in exons 2, 5, 8, 12 and 14 by using single strand conformational polymorphism analysis and antithetic forms of the polymorphic exons were linked with each other, cosegregating as distinct sequence haplotypes. In Finnish, German, and Russian populations a total of 18 haplotypes were observed of possible 72 haplotypic combinations of the 5 exons. Ten of the haplotypes detected were found to have no novel mutations but to be only combinations of preexisting mutations. No tightly associated combinations in pairwise comparisons between antithetic forms of the polymorphic exons were observed, indicating that there may be recombinational hotspots within the F13A gene region.

A point mutation within exon 5 of beta-hexosaminidase alpha chain gene was identified earlier in a Puerto Rican patient with GM2-gangliosidosis B1 variant (the DN-allele) [K. Ohno and K. Suzuki: J. Neurochem. 50:316-318, 1988]. Oligonucleotide probes designed to detect either the normal or the DN-allele showed that four additional patients carried the same mutation. These patients were of Italian, French, Spanish, and English/Italian/Hungarian origin. Three of them, as well as our original patient, were compound heterozygotes with positive signals for both the mutant and normal probes, while the Spanish patient was positive only for the DN-allele. A patient from Czechoslovakia was negative for the DN-allele. Thus, the specific mutation originally found in the Puerto Rican patient has a surprisingly wide geographic and ethnic distribution. This mutation can account for the B1 variant phenotype in five of the six B1 variant patients so far examined.
