This article reports on the design, construction, and inspiration of the altar cloth for the Saint Maria im Kapitol Catholic chapel, in Cologne, Germany, which was created by the artist Martha Kreutzer-Temming in 2006. Several topics are discussed, including how this cloth was the last of three altar cloths that were created by Kreutzer-Temming for the city of Cologne, how her design was inspired by an altar cloth from the 10th century, as well as how she used white linen cloth and linen thread in the cloth. Also mentioned is how she layered several pieces of linen together on the cloth in order to create a sense of liveliness, and create shadows.
