Abstract

The article presents the documented photographs of Berlin, Germany that were taken during the prewar level of industrialization and a large bulk of Eastern Jews fleeing from persecution in Russia and Poland. It focuses on the displayed public art coming from various graphic signwriters who could become history's witness of letterforms ranging from Fraktur and Schwabacher, the German handwriting Sütterlin and Jugendstil to san serif. It also compares and contrasts the effects of the pre and post war environments that reflect the perspective of the photographer to preserve the essence of the place and memories that had taken place.
