Fluoridation (Fl) is effective in preventing caries; however, it is unclear to what extent its use is counteracted by misinformation on the internet. This study aimed to evaluate the information provided on professional websites of German dental practices regarding fluoridation. A systematic search was performed by two independent examiners, utilizing three search engines, from 10 September 2021 to 11 December 2021. Modified, validated questionnaires (LIDA, DISCERN) were used to evaluate technical and functional aspects, generic quality, and risk of bias. Demographic information and statements about Fl were also collected. The intra- and inter-rater reliability assessments were excellent. Of the 81 websites analyzed, 64 (79%) mentioned Fl, and 31 (38%) indicated it as a primary focus. Most websites met at least 50% of the LIDA (90%) and DISCERN criteria (99%), indicating that the general quality was good. Thirty (37%) of the websites explained the impact of Fl, and forty-five (56%) indicated an opinion (for/against) on Fl. The practice location and the clinical focus were not associated with the overall quality of websites. Only a minority of websites explained the effects of Fl. Background: Child maltreatment, due to its high prevalence and often long-lasting (health and/or psycho-social) consequences, is one of the main reasons for global health inequalities. The medical field offers many opportunities to support affected children. This gives physicians and other health professionals the opportunity to provide protective measures and therapies to affected children at an early stage. However, the level of training concerning child protection is often too low among health professionals. This can affect the quality of care as well as providing the appropriate treatment and thus, the long-term (health) burden. The present work aims to survey the state of knowledge and capacities of health professionals regarding child protection in medicine and elicit health professionals' perspectives who absolved a child protection online course on a potential need for action in Germany.Methods: From June 2016 until February 2021, 3,360 health professionals were interviewed. Using quantitative and qualitative items, the questionnaire assessed demographic and professional background information as well as assessments regarding the awareness of child protection, abilities in child protection among health professionals and training offers in medicine.Results: The analysis indicates that the topic of child protection in medicine is not as present as the high prevalence of child maltreatment would imply. The majority (94.0%; n = 3.159) of the health professionals stated that they need more knowledge and capacities regarding child protection in medicine. More than half of the health professionals assessed the importance of the issue of child protection as low among health professionals. The reasons cited included child protection as an uncomfortable topic, an unwillingness among managers, and a lack of training on the topic.Conclusions: There is too little awareness and importance regarding child protection in the medical field in Germany. Hence, it is difficult to ensure adequate care for those affected. Child protection topics should be mandatory in the training curricula of all health professionals, and quality standards for prevention and intervention should be implemented in medical institutions. Furthermore, networking in child protection has to be improved, and medical campaigns should address the topic to sensitize health professionals and society to the issue and to destigmatize the topic. Die Einführung des neuen Katalogisierungsstandards RDA stellt eine besondere Herausforderung für Lehrende und Unterrichtende in der bibliothekarischen Ausbildung dar. Da die Details der Umsetzung noch nicht bekannt sind, ist die Vermittlung vorerst nur sehr eingeschränkt möglich. In einer Online-Umfrage wurden der Stand der Vorbereitungen bei den Lehrenden, ihre besonderen Bedürfnisse und Schwierigkeiten sowie ihre Erwartungen für die Zukunft erfragt. Der Beitrag stellt die Ergebnisse vor und interpretiert sie. The introduction of RDA, the new cataloguing standard, is a challenge for LIS lecturers and teachers of library assistants. As many details of the implementation are as yet unknown, RDA can at present only be discussed in a very limited way. In an online survey, lecturers and teachers were asked to describe their preparations, their particular needs and problems, and their expectations for the future. The article presents a list of continuing educations events for librarians and information professionals to be held between April and December, 2013, related to libraries and library science in Germany. On April 8th to 9th the workshop "Die geschichtswissenschaftliche Fachbibliographie der Zukunft - moderne Informationsdienstleistungen" on the future of historical libraries will be held in Munich, Germany. On April 11th to 12th, 2013, a workshop on English for Germany librarians will be held in Berlin, Germany. On April 15th, 2013, a seminar on microfilm will be held in Berlin, Germany.

The article discusses the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) an umbrella organization of German research institutes, and the projects it supports in continuing education for librarians and library professionals related to information infrastructure maintenance. The Fachinformationsdienste für die Wissenschaft, a projected by the DFG to make specialized resources available to scientists around Germany, is discussed.

This study takes a first step toward examining the relationship between organizational characteristics and the perceived attitude toward health promotion in companies from the perspective of chief executive officers (CEOs). Data for the cross-sectional study were collected through telephone interviews with one CEO from randomly selected companies within the German information and communication technology (ICT) sector. Multivariate logistic regression analysis (LRA) was performed, and further LRA was conducted after stratifying on company size. LRA of data from a total of n = 522 interviews found significant associations between the attitude toward health promotion and the company's market position, its number of hierarchical levels, the percentage of permanent positions and the percentage of employees with an academic education. After stratification on company size, the association between the attitude toward health promotion and both market position and the percentage of employees with an academic education was still present in small companies. There were no significant relationships between the attitude toward health promotion and the structural characteristics of medium-sized and large companies. The preliminary results of the study indicate that a perceived attitude toward health promotion in companies can be explained, to a certain degree, by the intraorganizational characteristics analyzed.Our key findings highlight that efforts toward establishing a positive attitude toward health promotion should focus on small companies with a lower market position and a greater number of employees with a lower education level. Presented is a report from the congress of library services in the area of sociology, which meets under the umbrella organization of the association Verein Deutscher Bibliothekare. The congress was held at the social science study center Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialwissenschaften (WZB) in November 2010 in Berlin, Germany. Topics dealt with were the expectations of sociologists for libraries and librarians, and the library services available for research in the area of social sciences.

The article reports on the meetings of the Deutscher Bibliotheksverband (dbv) Commission for Acquisitions and Inventory Development 2009-2012, which met on July 2 and 3, 2009, in Erfurt, Germany and on November 30 to December 1, 2009 in Berlin, Germany. Discussions at the July meeting centered on the profession of the acquisition librarian and changes in work procedures relating to electronic resource management. The December meeting produced a work program for the period 2009-2012.

Purpose — The purpose of this paper is to provide a flavour of the content of the first IFLA Presidential Meeting 2007-2009 held in Berlin, Germany in January 2007. Design/methodology/approach — An outline description of the issues, content and participants of this conference is presented in the paper. Findings — The paper finds that the meeting ended with the declaration on free access to information, reaffirmed by participants from 26 countries. This article presents the mission statement of German national libraries. Three of Germany's prominent librarians, Dr. Elisabeth Niggemann, the general director of the German Library, Barbara Schneider-Kempf, the general director of the State Library of Berlin-Prussian Cultural Heritage, and Dr. Rolf Griebel, the general director of the Bavarian State Library, met to discuss the national and international responsibilities of libraries for literature and information resources. The discussion also emphasized how libraries could work together to promote a national character.
