The article offers information on the hybrid ornamental Pennisetums (P.) Tift 17 and Tift 23. It notes that Tift 17 stands as a trispecific cross among P. purpureum, P. squamulatum and P. glaucum while Tift 23 resulted from a cross between P. glaucum and P. purpureum. The performance of the grasses are discussed in which Tift 17 did not survived the winter temperatures at Blairsville, Georgia while Tift 23 did not survive in any of the tests. Nurseries licensed by the Georgia Research Foundation are allowed to produce the grasses.
