A study conducted at Fukuoka Children's Hospital in Japan has provided new insights into open-lip schizencephaly, a rare brain disorder characterized by fluid-filled clefts in the cerebral hemisphere. The researchers examined two pediatric cases and found that the clefts were directly connected to the lateral ventricles, but not to the subarachnoid space. They also observed that shunting operations were effective in reducing the size of the fluid-filled cavity.
