Launched in 2022 at the Policlinique d'hématologie et d'immunologie (PHI) of the Centre hospitalier (CH) Saint-Louis, the therapeutic patient education (TPE) program for patients suffering from rare hematology pathologies is continuing to develop. In this paper, a gain-scheduled Smith Predictor PID controller is proposed for the control of an open-flow canal system that allows for dealing with large variation in operating conditions. A linear parameter varying (LPV) control-oriented model for open-flow canal systems based on a second-order delay Hayami model is proposed. Exploiting the second-order structure of this model, an LPV PID controller is designed using H\infty and linear matrix inequalities pole placement. The controller structure includes a Smith Predictor, real time estimated parameters from measurements (including the known part of the delay) that schedule the controller and predictor and unstructured dynamic uncertainty, which covers the unknown portion of the delay. Finally, the proposed controller is validated in a case study based on a single real reach canal: the Lunax Gallery at Gascogne (France). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The Time Projection Chamber (TPC) is the main tracking device of the ALICE experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The TPC, located in the central barrel of ALICE, has a cylindrical shape with an active gas volume close to 90m3 and is operated in a 0.5T solenoidal magnetic field parallel to its axis. It provides excellent charged particle tracking and identification (PID) in the environment of unprecedented multiplicities of charged particles. The PID is based on a measurement of the specific energy loss with a large dynamic range. The PID capability can be extended to high transverse momenta by applying a statistical analysis of the measurement in the relativistic rise. The PID performance in pp and Pb–Pb collisions from 2010 will be discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Particle IDentification (PID) is fundamental to particle physics experiments. This paper reviews PID strategies and methods used by the large LHC experiments, which provide outstanding examples of the state-of-the-art. The first part focuses on the general design of these experiments with respect to PID and the technologies used. Three PID techniques are discussed in more detail: ionization measurements, time-of-flight measurements and Cherenkov imaging. Four examples of the implementation of these techniques at the LHC are given, together with selections of relevant examples from other experiments and short overviews on new developments. Finally, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS 02) experiment is briefly described as an impressive example of a space-based experiment using a number of familiar PID techniques.
