The article offers a social and historical analysis of the Corsican language, in the island of Corsica, France. The language, which has Latin roots, evolved with the Italian language before taking its own shape with the influence of French. The article shows a paradoxical evolution of the Corsican language, which is less used in ordinary life but is used in areas from which it used to be excluded such as schools.
