Purpose: The study aims to describe the course and management of non-infectious uveitis during pregnancy and postpartum period in European populations. Methods: A retrospective observational study in two tertiary centers in France was performed. Pregnant patients during the follow-up of a non-infectious uveitis as well as those with new-onset uveitis were included. The medical records were analyzed with a systematic collection of the characteristics of the uveitis, the treatment and evolution of the uveitis, and the course of the pregnancy including obstetric complications. Results: Seventy-nine pregnancies in 59 women were included: 48 patients (68 pregnancies) were followed for uveitis and 11 had a new-onset uveitis diagnosis. Most patients had idiopathic uveitis (32.2%) or sarcoid uveitis (27.1%). Among the patients followed for uveitis at the time of conception, there were 18 relapses (26.5%) requiring treatment escalation. Relapses occurred mainly in the two first trimester (n = 12) or during the postpartum period (n = 5) and were significantly associated with an active uveitis at the time of conception (OR = 9.2, 95% CI [1.57–48.4], p = 0.01). The characteristics of the new-onset uveitis were similar to those already existing before pregnancy. Obstetric complications occurred in 25 pregnancies (31.6%), mainly gestational hypertension and gestational diabetes. Conclusion: The frequency of non-infectious uveitis relapses decreases as pregnancy progresses, in agreement with data from other non-European studies. However, multidisciplinary monitoring should be advised, especially to uncontrolled patients at the time of conception. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate real-world treatment outcomes in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) treated with intravitreal aflibercept (IVT-AFL) in routine clinical practice in France., Methods: RAINBOW (NCT02279537) was an ambispective, observational, 4-year study assessing IVT-AFL effectiveness, treatment patterns, and safety in patients with nAMD in France. Treatment-naïve patients prescribed IVT-AFL and treated according to local practice (pro re nata or treat-and-extend) were eligible. Three treatment cohorts were retrospectively identified based on their treatment pattern within the first 12 months: regular (3 initial monthly IVT-AFL injections received within 45-90 days after the first injection in month 0 and followed by injections every 2 months), irregular with the initial monthly injections, and irregular without the initial monthly injections. The primary endpoint was mean change in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) from baseline to month 12. The 48-month results are described here., Results: Overall, the study included 516 patients (each with one study eye), and 30.2% of patients completed 48 months of IVT-AFL treatment. Mean change in BCVA from baseline (56.5 letters) to month 48 for patients with an assessment at both time points was + 1.1 (regular cohort, n = 47), + 0.1 (irregular cohort with initial monthly injections, n = 115), and - 1.3 letters (irregular cohort without initial monthly injections, n = 26), representing a decrease from the gains achieved at month 12. Mean number of IVT-AFL injections received by month 48 in the treatment cohorts was 14.9, 13.7, and 11.9, respectively. The safety profile of IVT-AFL was consistent with previous studies., Conclusion: In RAINBOW, the 48-month results demonstrate a lack of long-term effectiveness of IVT-AFL treatment of nAMD due to progressive undertreatment in routine clinical practice in France. Purpose: To analyze the incidence, risk factors, and time to onset of ocular hypertension (OHT) after intravitreal injections (IVI) of dexamethasone implant and to evaluate the long-term cumulative probability of intraocular pressure elevation., Methods: Eyes of patients having received at least one dexamethasone implant IVI between October 2010 and February 2015 were included in the present study. Ocular hypertension was defined as intraocular pressure > 25 mmHg and/or an increase of 10 mmHg over the follow-up period compared with baseline intraocular pressure., Results: Four hundred ninety-four eyes were studied in 410 patients. For a total of 1,371 IVI, the incidence of OHT was 32.6% in the study eyes with a mean follow-up period of 30 months (3-62.5) and a median follow-up of 29 months. Pressure-lowering treatment was introduced for 36.9% of eyes. Topical treatment alone was sufficient to manage OHT in 97%. Young age, male sex, uveitis and retinal vein occlusion, and glaucoma treated with a double- or triple-combination topical pressure-lowering medication were found to be risk factors for OHT. The incidence of OHT did not change with an increase in the number of IVI, and there was no cumulative effect, defining by an increase of the incidence of OHT in patients after repeated IVI (P = 0.248)., Conclusion: This study confirmed that OHT is of moderate incidence, transient, controlled by topical treatment and provides data on the long-term cumulative probability of intraocular pressure elevation in a large cohort of eyes treated with dexamethasone implant IVI. Repeat injections of dexamethasone implant neither increase nor decrease the risk of OHT.

Background: Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents have become the standard of care in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). Despite generally excellent response rates to anti-VEGF therapy, some patients do not respond or may respond suboptimally. In the case of refractory or rapidly recurring fluid in nAMD, clinicians may switch to another anti-VEGF agent. TITAN was an observational study that assessed the effectiveness and safety of intravitreal aflibercept (IVT-AFL) in patients with nAMD refractory to ranibizumab who switched to IVT-AFL after less than 12 months of ranibizumab treatment in routine clinical practice in France., Methods: TITAN was an observational, retrospective and prospective 12-month study conducted at 28 centres in France. Patients with nAMD refractory to ranibizumab were enrolled. Patients who were switched from ranibizumab to IVT-AFL were followed for 12 months. Data were obtained from medical records for retrospectively included patients, and at routine follow-up visits for those included prospectively. The main outcome measure was percentage of patients who achieved treatment success (gain of ≥1 Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study letters in best-corrected visual acuity [BCVA] and/or any reduction in central retinal thickness [CRT]) from baseline to 12 months after switching. A sample size of 225 patients was determined based on a 2-sided 95% confidence interval with a width equal to 0.12 when the sample proportion was 0.70., Results: We analysed safety data (N = 217) and clinical outcomes from patients in the per-protocol population (n = 125). The mean (standard deviation) number of IVT-AFL injections was 7.5 (2.6). Treatment success was achieved in 68.8% of patients. Mean BCVA change from baseline to Month 12 was + 1.5 letters (P = 0.105) and the mean CRT change was - 45.0 μm (P <  0.001). In a subgroup analysis, in patients who received three initial monthly IVT-AFL injections, mean BCVA gain was 3.3 letters at Month 12 (P = 0.015). Excluding lack of efficacy and inappropriate scheduling of drug administration, the most common adverse event was eye pain (2.3%)., Conclusions: Switching ranibizumab-refractory patients with nAMD to IVT-AFL may improve visual outcomes in some patients, particularly those who receive three initial monthly injections., Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov , NCT02321241 . Purpose: To report the effectiveness of intravitreal aflibercept (IVT-AFL) treatment for diabetic macular edema (DME) in French clinical practice., Methods: APOLLON (NCT02924311) was a prospective, observational cohort study of patients with DME. Effectiveness was evaluated by change from baseline in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at 12 months in treatment-naïve patients (i.e., had not received any anti-vascular endothelial growth factor [anti-VEGF] agent, laser, or steroid at IVT-AFL treatment start) and previously treated patients (i.e., previously treated with anti-VEGF agents other than IVT-AFL, laser, or steroids at IVT-AFL treatment start). Secondary endpoints included change in central retinal thickness (CRT) over 12 months, frequency of injections, and proportion of patients with safety events., Results: Of the 147 patients followed for at least 12 months and included in the effectiveness analysis, 52.4% (n = 77) were treatment-naïve and 47.6% (n = 70) were previously treated. Mean (standard deviation [SD]) BCVA score at baseline was 62.7 (14.3) Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) letters in treatment-naïve patients and 60.0 (13.7) ETDRS letters in previously treated patients. At month 12, mean (SD) change in BCVA was + 7.8 (12.3) letters in treatment-naïve patients and + 5.0 (11.3) letters in previously treated patients. Mean CRT decreased in both patient cohorts. The mean (SD) number of IVT-AFL injections at month 12 was 7.6 (2.5) for treatment-naïve patients and 7.6 (2.3) for previously treated patients. Of 388 patients included in the safety analysis, ocular treatment-emergent adverse events occurred in 54.1% (n = 210) of patients., Conclusion: IVT-AFL treatment was associated with improvements in functional and anatomic outcomes in both treatment-naïve and previously treated patients with DME in France.

Main Objective: To prospectively assess the cost-consequence of a standardized diagnostic strategy as to compared to an open one for the etiological diagnosis of uveitis., Design: This was a prospective, non-inferiority, multicentre, randomized controlled trial., Methods: We included all consecutive patients with uveitis who had visited at least one of the Departments of Ophthalmology. In the standardized group, patients had a minimal work-up regardless of the type of uveitis (including evaluation of the CBC, ESR, C-reactive protein, tuberculin skin test, syphilis serology and chest X-ray). Depending on ophthalmological findings, further investigations could be performed. In the open strategy, ophthalmologists were free to order any kind of investigation. The main outcome was the mean cost per patient of each strategy., Results: 903 uveitis patients were included from January, 2010 to May, 2013. The mean cost per patient of the standardized strategy was 182.97 euros [CI 95% (173.14; 192.80)], and the mean cost per patient of the open strategy was 251.75 euros [CI 95% (229.24; 274.25)]. Therefore, the mean cost per patient of the standardized strategy was significantly lower than the mean cost per patient of the open strategy (p<0.001). There were significantly fewer visits (p<0.001), fewer radiological procedures (p<0.004) and fewer laboratory investigations (p<0.001) in the standardized group., Conclusion: A standardized strategy is a cost-saving approach for the etiological diagnosis of uveitis., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

Objective: To determine the ophthalmological and extra-ophthalmological clinical characteristics and visual prognosis of patients with sarcoid uveitis in different ethnic groups., Methods: We retrospectively analysed the data from patients with sarcoid uveitis seen at two departments of Ophthalmology between December 2003 and December 2017. Patients presented biopsy-proven sarcoidosis and/or presumed sarcoid uveitis based on the following criteria: compatible thoracic imaging, associated with elevated angiotensin-conversion enzyme (ACE) and/or lymphocytic alveolitis on bronchoalveolar lavage fluid analysis (> 15% lymphocytes and CD4/CD8 > 3.5). Ophthalmological and general characteristics, as well as visual and global prognoses, were compared in three pre-defined ethnic groups: White Europeans, North Africans and Afro-Caribbeans., Results: A total of 194 patients were included: 145 with biopsy-proven and 49 with presumed sarcoid uveitis. Overall, 68% were White Europeans while 20.6% were North Africans and 11.3% were Afro-Caribbeans. Sixty-nine per cent were women and the median age at presentation was 52.1 years. Median ages at first ocular manifestation of the disease in Afro-Caribbeans and North Africans were respectively 34.3 and 43.1 years, while it was 57.8 years in White Europeans (p < 0.001). Ocular involvement was bilateral in 77.8% (n = 151) of the cases and nearly half of the patients had panuveitis (48.5%). Anterior uveitis was more frequent in Afro-Caribbeans (59.1%; p < 0.0001), while White Europeans presented more frequently with intermediate uveitis. There was a significantly higher frequency of systemic involvement of sarcoidosis in North Africans while White Europeans showed a higher frequency of isolated ocular involvement at onset and during follow-up. Afro-Caribbeans, who had a complete visual recovery in 72.7% of the cases, had a better visual prognosis than other ethnic groups (p = 0.025)., Conclusion: In this large European series of sarcoid uveitis, we observed ethnicity-related differences regarding uveitis clinical presentation and visual outcome. Although good overall, the visual prognosis seems to be better in Afro-Caribbeans than in other ethnic groups.

Purpose: To describe the characteristics of de novo uveitis in patients ≥ 60 years old., Methods: Retrospective review of patients with uveitis followed in our tertiary center over a 14-year period. Patients aged 60-70 years and patients aged > 70 years were compared., Results: A total of 283/1044 (27.1%) patients with uveitis were ≥ 60 years of age. Idiopathic uveitis (36.1%) and sarcoidosis (31.5%) were the most frequent etiologies. Sarcoidosis was significantly more frequent (31.5% vs. 13.7%, p < 0.0001) after the age of 60 years. Intraocular lymphoma (5.0% vs. 1.1%) and herpes virus infection (5.0% vs. 0.9%) were also more common in this age group, unlike HLA B27-related uveitis and spondyloarthritis (4.6% vs. 14.9%). Pure ophthalmologic entities: birdshot retinochoroidopathy (2.8%) or Fuchs uveitis (0.4%), were rare in patients ≥ 60 years of age and Posner Scholssman, Pars planitis, White dots syndrome, Behçet's disease, and Multiple Sclerosis were never reported. In patients > 70 years old, idiopathic uveitis (41.1% vs. 31.7%) and presumed sarcoidosis (56.5% vs. 25.6%) were more frequent than in the 60-70-year age group., Conclusion: In our center, sarcoidosis is the leading cause of non-idiopathic uveitis in older patients. Idiopathic uveitis and other entities account for less than two-thirds of cases. Ophthalmologic entities are rare after 60 years of age. We also report for the first time the characteristics of uveitis after 70 years of age.

Objective: Uveitis is the most common ophthalmological finding in the practice of rheumatology and clinical immunology. The condition is frequently idiopathic but about 60 causes of uveitis have been described. Our aim was to analyze the clinical patterns and etiologies of uveitis in a tertiary referral center., Methods: The records of 912 consecutive patients referred to the department of internal medicine (Lyon University Hospital, Lyon, France) for the diagnostic work-up of uveitis were examined. Demographic, clinical, anatomical, and etiological features of uveitis were analyzed., Results: The mean age at onset was 48.8 years; 59.8% of the patients were women and 78.2% were Caucasians. Anterior uveitis was the most common type of uveitis (40.6%), followed by panuveitis (31.7%), posterior (18.75%) and intermediate uveitis (9%). 46.9% of the patients had idiopathic uveitis. The most common etiologies were systemic diseases (37.3%), such as sarcoidosis (17.1%), HLA-B27-related uveitis and/or spondyloarthritis (12.5%), and tuberculosis (7.5%)., Conclusion: We describe one of the largest cohorts of consecutive uveitis patients referred to a department of internal medicine. The high percentage of uveitis associated with underlying (systemic) diseases highlights the need for a multidisciplinary approach, in order to reduce the diagnostic delay., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. Purpose: To evaluate the association between obstructive sleep apnea and diabetic macular edema (DME) in patients with Type II diabetes, using the apnea-hypopnea index and other nocturnal hypoxemia parameters., Methods: This cross-sectional, case-control study included 99 patients with Type II diabetes: the first group included patients with DME (DME+ group) and the second patients without DME (DME- group). Polysomnography was performed in all patients. The two groups were compared, and the risk factors were studied using logistic regression., Results: The DME+ group comprised 38 patients, and the DME- group comprised 61 patients, aged a mean 68.8 years and 66.3 years (P = 0.27), respectively; mean body mass index was 29.7 and 30.9 (P = 0.16), respectively. The mean apnea-hypopnea index was significantly higher in the DME+ group (43.95 [13.5-87.3]) than in the DME- group (35.18 [3.55-90.7]) (P = 0.034). Patients with DME had more severe obstructive sleep apnea (apnea-hypopnea index >30) than the others: 71% versus 50.8% (P = 0.049). Cumulative time of SPO2 below 90% (CT90%) was independently associated with DME after adjusting for confounding factors, whereas there was no difference between the oxygen desaturation index and minimum O2 saturation., Conclusion: Severe obstructive sleep apnea (apnea-hypopnea index >30) and parameters of nocturnal hypoxemia (cumulative time of SPO2 below 90%) are associated with DME.

Purpose : Incidence of significant and non-significant macular edema found using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) following cataract surgery. Methods : Prospective, cohort series conducted at the Croix Rousse University Hospital. Significant macular edema (SME) was defined as the presence of fluid with an increase of 30% or more in central subfield macular thickness compared to baseline on SD-OCT at 6 weeks and non-significant macula edema (NSME) as an increase of less than 30%. Results : Nine hundred and twenty-eight eyes in 638 patients were included in the study. Incidence of Irvine Gass (IG) syndrome was 9%, 2.3% of patients presented SME, 6.8% NSME. Epiretinal membrane, diabetes, and capsular rupture were significantly associated with a risk of IG. The risk of developing IG in the fellow eye was 23% in cases of IG in the first eye. In total 8.4% of all included patients developed chronic IG (duration of more than 6 months). Conclusion : This study reports the incidence of IG during 6 months of surgical activity at a French university hospital center.

Purpose : Despite the huge advance in diagnostic technics, about one-third of uveitis is still considered of unknown etiology. In this study, we aimed to report their clinical features and to describe how a diagnosis has been finally reached for some patients. Methods : We retrospectively reviewed all patients with uveitis referred to our tertiary center between 2002 and 2016. The unknown etiology was admitted after a new ophthalmologic examination and a full work-up in internal medicine in our tertiary center. Results : Among 957 patients with uveitis, 355 had uveitis of unknown etiology. The clinical and epidemiological characteristics of this subgroup were no different from those with a known etiology. Out of 104 patients who were followed-up for more than 1 year, a diagnosis was finally achieved in 20 patients. The diagnosis was determined either because of the occurrence of a new clinical symptom ( n  = 10), a new/repeated non-ophthalmologic investigation ( n  = 7), or a new/repeated ophthalmic exam ( n  = 3). Conclusion : A prolonged follow-up, with repeated exams, may allow the determination of an etiology in about one-fifth of uveitis initially considered as idiopathic.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy and safety of adalimumab on uveitis in patients with early onset, chronic, juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)-associated or idiopathic anterior uveitis and an inadequate response to topical steroids and methotrexate (MTX)., Methods: Patients aged 4 years or more with ocular inflammation quantified by laser flare photometry (LFP) ≥30 photon units/ms were double-blindly randomised (1:1) to 2 groups, one treated with placebo and one with adalimumab subcutaneously at a dose of 24 mg/m 2 in patients aged <13 years, 40 mg in the others, every other week. The primary outcome was response at month 2 (M2) defined as a 30% reduction of inflammation on LFP in the assessable eye with more severe baseline inflammation and no worsening on slit lamp examination. From M2 to M12, all patients received adalimumab., Results: At M2, among 31 patients included in intention-to-treat analysis, there were 9/16 responders on adalimumab and 3/15 on placebo (P=0.038, Χ 2 test; relative risk=2.81, 95% CI 0.94 to 8.45; risk difference: 36.3%, 95% CI 2.1 to 60.6); there was no significant difference using the Standardised Uveitis Nomenclature classification criteria of improvement. Thirty patients continued the trial after M2 and received adalimumab (open-label phase), 29 reached M12. There were seven serious adverse events none related to study treatment., Conclusions: This trial is in favour of using adalimumab in patients with early onset, chronic anterior uveitis, which is in most cases associated with JIA, in case of inadequate response to topical therapy and MTX. Purpose: To examine the relation between uveitis and common variable immunodeficiency (CVID)., Methods: Retrospective analysis of patients included in the French DEFI cohort of adults with CVID and of patients identified by reviewing the literature., Results: Four patients were identified in the DEFI study (frequency of uveitis: 1.6%). The course of uveitis was not changed in the patients who started intravenous immunoglobulins replacement therapy after CVID diagnosis. Ten cases of CVID-associated uveitis were listed in the literature. Overall, among the 14 patients, uveitis was always chronic, usually bilateral (n = 11) and granulomatous (n = 9). Seven patients presented with a "sarcoid-likeâ syndrome. Nine patients had granulomatous uveitis suggestive of ocular sarcoidosis. Five patients were treated with local corticosteroids, and 9 required systemic treatment (corticosteroids alone n = 5 and/or immunosuppressive agents n = 4)., Conclusions: CVID can be associated with uveitis. Since uveitis can reveal the immunodeficiency, CVID diagnosis should be considered at the time of uveitis diagnosis.

Purpose: To evaluate the incidence of anterior chamber bacterial contamination during phacoemulsification cataract surgery using eubacterial polymerase chain reaction and conventional cultures., Methods: This prospective study included 30 eyes of 24 patients who had phacoemulsification with implantation of a foldable acrylic posterior chamber intraocular lens through a 3.2-mm clear corneal incision. Topical aminosid was administered 3 days before surgery. After povidone-iodine antisepsis, 2 intraoperative anterior chamber aspirates were obtained from each patient, the first taken upon entering the anterior chamber and the second at the conclusion of surgery after the suture. Broad-range eubacterial polymerase chain reaction amplification and conventional cultures were used to verify that aqueous humor did not contain any detectable bacteria at the beginning of the surgery and to evaluate the bacterial contamination rate of the anterior chamber at the end of it. No oral antibiotic prophylaxis was used., Results and Conclusions: No specimens (0%) aspirated on entry into the anterior chamber or obtained at the conclusion of surgery were positive for microorganisms on culture or eubacterial polymerase chain reaction. None of the eyes developed acute endophthalmitis. The incidence of anterior chamber bacterial contamination during phacoemulsification recovered in this study using eubacterial polymerase chain reaction and conventional culture was null (0%).

Background: Endophthalmitis is a severe condition that requires hospitalization with at least day care. Information on the incidence rate, costs and consequences of endophthalmitis is scarce., Objective: To estimate the number of patients with endophthalmitis hospitalized in France, as well as the average costs and hospital budget consequences., Methods: French Programme de Médicalisation des Systèmes d'Information (PMSI) data for 2006, derived from the official DRG classification, were analysed. Data were extracted concerning the following primary diagnoses: 'purulent endophthalmitis', 'other endophthalmitis' and 'endophthalmitis associated with another disease'. Two durations of hospitalization were compared: the actual duration and a weighted DRG duration. The cost of hospitalization was weighted by the average DRG cost + daily hospital costs x the difference between the actual and weighted DRG days in hospital. All costs are presented in euro, year 2007 values., Results: A total of 1518 patients (mean age 68.7 years; 47.1% male) experienced 1725 hospitalizations for endophthalmitis, including 1416 cases (82.1%) admitted to public hospitals. The majority of patients (79.1%) were classified by DRG codes that did not specify endophthalmitis (DRG 02M03Z). Most patients (1342) were given a drug injection and 510 underwent vitrectomy. Four patients died in hospital and 75 were transferred to other hospitals. The actual duration of hospitalization for endophthalmitis in public hospitals was 8.1 days (mean), whereas the average weighted DRG duration was 5.1 days, which underestimated the actual duration by 3 days. The average hospital cost was 3688 euro per patient, totalling 6,361,119 euro per annum for all public and private hospitalizations in France, including 223,723 euro as day care. If hospital funding was wholly based on DRG tariffs, the budget for endophthalmitis would be severely underestimated. The DRG inclusion of 'severe acute ocular infections' as a proxy for endophthalmitis dramatically underestimated its true cost by approximately 30%., Conclusion: For health economic evaluations, it is inappropriate to use DRG classifications as proxies for endophthalmitis. Expressed more generally, hospitalization cost analyses should not be based on any specific DRG, but always on the clinically relevant primary diagnosis. The PMSI clustering algorithm underestimates the hospital budgets required for endophthalmitis. Lastly, the PMSI (exhaustively reporting all hospitalizations) is best suited to capturing yearly endophthalmitis incidence rates, average costs and national health expenditure.

Purpose: To report results of the National French Observational Database for Endophthalmitis (Observatoire National Des Endophtalmies [ONDE])., Setting: Departments of ophthalmology at universities, general hospitals, and private clinics., Methods: In this multicenter national interventional case series, data were collected prospectively between March 1, 2003, and November 1, 2004, from French ophthalmologists who answered a standardized 175-item questionnaire. The data were from patients with acute-onset endophthalmitis after cataract surgery. Before surgery, all 105 patients had received an official information card from the French Ophthalmological Society and provided written informed consent., Results: The study comprised 105 patients. The median time from cataract extraction to endophthalmitis was 4 days (range 1 to 39 days). All but 1 patient had symptoms, with blurred vision being the most common. Initial visual acuity was 5/200 or better in 18.9% (18/95) of patients. Intraocular samples from 90.5% (95/105) of patients yielded 45 pathogens, of which 86.7% were gram positive. Treatments included intraocular antibiotic injections in 95.1% (98/103) of patients, intraocular steroid injections in 41.4% (41/99) of patients, and immediate vitrectomy in 14.0% (14/100) of patients. Visual acuity at 3 months was 20/100 in 64% of patients., Conclusions: The ONDE study disclosed important changes in French ophthalmic surgical practice 15 years after the first prospective endophthalmitis survey and 12 years after a United States study were published. Progress toward standardization of preventive methods (eg, patient information, increased systemic antibiotic efficacy, more frequent corticosteroid use) has contributed to fewer vitrectomies.
