This study explores how parenting couples use their relationship to support each other after their child's autism diagnosis by assessing the role of dyadic coping and parenting sense of competence as predictors of their coparenting quality. Mothers and fathers raising a child on the spectrum (N = 70 couples) individually completed self-report questionnaires measuring stress appraisal, dyadic coping, parenting sense of competence, and coparenting. Parents were recruited 1-36 months after their child's autism diagnosis and data were analyzed using the actor-partner interdependence model. Parents' dyadic coping and sense of competence were related to their level of coparenting. Partner effects were found as mothers' dyadic coping was positively linked to fathers' coparenting and a higher sense of competence among fathers predicted mothers' coparenting. Further research is needed to understand how these effects evolve throughout the child's development stages.

The article focuses on the history of the construction and design of two collegiate churches in the French region of Champagne during the fourteenth century. The two churches studied are the churches in Saint-Urbain de Troyes and Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens in Mussy-sur-Seine. The ways the the two buildings were constructed, their purposes and the ways that one building served as an architectural model for the other, are described. A number of photographs of the buildings are also presented along with detailed descriptions of the building materials.

Objective: The Binge Eating Scale is a widely used scale to assess binge eating disorder in obese patients. Until now, this scale has not been validated on a French population, and no psychometrically sound tool assesses binge eating disorder in the French. This study aimed to test the psychometric properties of a French version of the Binge Eating Scale by establishing its factor structure, internal consistency, and construct validity in both a non-clinical population and a clinical population (obese patients who are candidates for bariatric surgery)., Methods: A total of 553 non-clinical subjects and 63 morbidly obese patients who were candidates for bariatric surgery were assessed with the BES and the Bulimic Investigatory Test, Edinburgh or BITE (which assesses both binge eating behaviours and use of inappropriate compensatory behaviours). We tested the factor structure of the instrument, its internal consistency, its construct validity with measures of binge eating, and its construct validity with measures of inappropriate compensatory behaviours to avoid weight gain. In 47 out of the 63 obese patients, we assessed binge eating disorder (SCID)., Results: In the non-clinical population, the BES had a one-factor structure (which accounted for 61% of the variance), excellent internal consistency (α=0.93), and high construct validity with measures of binge eating. In this population, construct validity with measures of inappropriate compensatory behaviours was confirmed in overweight and obese subjects (P=0.42), but not in underweight and optimal weight subjects (P<0.001). In obese patients candidates for bariatric surgery, we demonstrated that the BES had a one-factor structure (which accounted for 46% of the variance), had high internal consistency (α=0.88) and high construct validity with measures of binge eating and good construct validity with measures of inappropriate compensatory behaviours to avoid weight gain. In the subpopulation of 47 obese patients, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were respectively 75%, 88.4%, 37.5% and 97.4% (BES threshold=18)., Discussion: In this study, we validated a psychometrically sound French version of the Binge Eating Scale, both in a non-clinical and a clinical sample. The psychometric properties of the French version of the BES are comparable to its original version with a one-factor structure. The BES is a useful tool to assess binge eating disorder in obese patients (e.g., bariatric surgery candidates), but might not differentiate between binge eating disorder and bulimia nervosa in underweight and optimal weight subjects., (Copyright © 2016 L'Encéphale, Paris. Objective: To help identify and advance the understanding of the potential mechanisms underlying the association between parents' and adolescents' psychological maladjustment in obesity, we evaluated bulimic behaviours and psychopathology in a clinical sample of obese adolescents and in their parents., Methods: This is a cross-sectional cohort study including 115 severely obese, treatment-seeking adolescents aged 12-17 years (mean age: 14.2; mean body mass index z-score: 4.32), and their parents (115 mothers and 96 fathers). Adolescents filled out the Bulimic Investigatory Test, Edinburgh (BITE), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC). Their parents completed the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) and the BITE. A child psychiatrist filled out the Montgomery and Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and the Brief Scale for Anxiety (BSA) for the adolescents., Results: Obese adolescents demonstrated significant correlations between the severity of bulimic symptoms and the degree of emotional symptomatology, such as depression and anxiety, but not with the severity of obesity. Psychopathological maladjustment and bulimic symptoms in obese adolescents were significantly associated with the maternal psychopathological disturbances, especially anxiety and somatisation in mother. In fact, maternal psychopathology, not maternal bulimic symptoms, was the factor most strongly associated with bulimic behaviours in obese adolescents., Discussion: These results highlight the importance of including an adolescent and parental psychiatric assessment (bulimic, depressive and anxiety symptoms), particularly maternal psychopathology in the treatment of severely obese adolescents.

Background: Psychiatric evaluation of suicide attempters is necessary in order to define aspects of primary and secondary prevention of suicidal behavior., Population and Methods: All the 80 children and adolescents (66 girls and 14 boys) admitted from September 1989 to September 1992 in a pediatric hospital for suicide attempt have been included in this study. Their mean age was 13 yr 10 mo +/- 1.4 and 81% of them were more than 13 years of age. Evaluation included a structured interview and a scale assessing general psychopathology., Results: Risk factors included previous psychiatric history in the patient (47%), family history of psychiatric disturbances in 33% of the mothers, 15% of the fathers and 13% in both. Recent modification in familial composition was seen in one third of cases and chronic difficulties in parent/child interaction in 92%. A relationship between the non impulsivity of the suicidal gesture, psychiatric history and depression diagnosed at the time of evaluation was also recognized., Conclusions: Knowledge of these risk factors should help to prevent and treat some aspects of suicidal behavior.
