Aim/Purpose: The purpose of this study is to discover usage differences in task performance by students of different cultures, by examining procrastination patterns from a national cultural perspective and exploring the effect of multicultural virtual teamwork on students' individual procrastination. Background: This study aims to examine higher-education entrepreneurial learning in the context of multicultural virtual teamwork, as performed during participation on a Global Entrepreneurship course. Methodology: The methodology consists of quantitative comparative data analytics preceding and subsequent to intercultural team activities. This research is based on analyses of objective data collected by Moodle, the LMS used in the In2It project, in its built-in log system from the Global Entrepreneurship course website, which offers students diverse entities of information and tasks. In the examined course, there were 177 participants, from three different countries: United Kingdom, France and Israel. The students were grouped into 40 multicultural virtual (not face-to-face) teams, each one comprised of participants from at least two countries. The primary methodology of this study is analytics of the extracted data, which was transferred into Excel for cleaning purposes and then to SPSS for analysis. Contribution: This study aims to discover the effects of multicultural teamwork on individual procrastination while comparing the differences between cultures, as there are only a few studies exploring this relation. The uniqueness of this study is using and analyzing actual data of student procrastination from logs, whereas other studies of procrastination in multicultural student teams have measured perceived procrastination, collected using surveys. Findings: The results show statistical differences between countries in procrastination of individual assignments before team working--students from UK were the most procrastinators and Israeli students were the least procrastinators, but almost all students procrastinated. However, the outcome of the teamwork was submitted almost without procrastination. Moreover, procrastination in individual assignments performed after finishing the multicultural teamwork dramatically decreased to 10% of the students' prior individual procrastination. Recommendations for Practitioners: The results from this study, namely, the decline of the procrastination after the multicultural virtual teamwork, can be used by global firms with employees all over the world, working in virtual multicultural teams. Such firms do not need to avoid multicultural teams, working virtually, as they can benefit from this kind of collaboration. Recommendation for Researchers: These results can be also beneficial for academic researchers from different cultures and countries, working together in virtual multicultural teams. Impact on Society: Understanding the positive effect of virtual multicultural teamwork, in mitigating the negative tendency of students from diverse cultures to procrastinate, as concluded in this study, can provide a useful tool for higher education or businesses to mitigate procrastination in teamwork processes. It can also be used as an experiential learning tool for improving task performance and teamwork process. Future Research: The relation between procrastination and motivation should be further examined in relation to multicultural virtual teams. Further research is needed to explore the effect of multicultural virtual teamwork during the teamwork process, and the reasoning for this effect.

When deciding which new programme to implement and where the additional resources, if needed, will come from, the decision makers need to accommodate the uncertainty of the potential changes in population health and medical expenditures that can occur. They also need to determine the value of these potential changes. The objective of this study is to identify a public valuation function measuring how the public values changes in population health and medical expenditures when healthcare resources are re-allocated. We report the results of a choice experiment conducted in March 2016 in a representative sample of the population living in France (N = 1008). The main results indicate that the public is more sensitive to changes in population health than changes in the level of medical expenditures. There is a non-linear valuation of these changes with evidence of asymmetric preferences and non-constant marginal sensitivity. The public gives 1.4 times more weight to decrease in population health than for the same-size increase. The public becomes less sensitive to marginal changes in population health as the level of changes increases. In a simulation study of 5000 resource allocation decisions, we show that non-linearities in public valuation of population health and medical expenditures matters. The linear and non-linear public valuation functions were associated with respectively 50.1% and 28.1% of situations of acceptable outcome of the reallocation of resources. The level of agreement between these two functions was moderate with a Kappa coefficient of 0.56, and the probability of agreement was mainly driven by the distribution of net changes in population health. This study provides a method and an estimation of a public valuation function that describes the preferences (or values attributed) for every potential outcome stemming from the reallocation of healthcare resources. Background: Alternative options to hospital care like home care or local health centers (LHCs) are being advocated. However, no study has measured citizens' preferences (who will finance these services via taxation) for these options., Objectives: We measured (i) citizens' preferences for these services, that is, respondents stated where they would like to get the treatment; (ii) the strength of their preference., Methods: A computerized survey composed of (i) a decision aid to inform respondents about the three options; (ii) three scenarios, from light-to-heavy care, that respondents should rank from the most to the least preferred option of care. (iii) a contingent valuation survey (CVS) to assess how much respondents were willing to pay for their preferred option (except for hospital care if chosen, because it is the default option and free). (iv) a socio-demographic questionnaire., Results: Data were collected from a representative sample of citizens living in the Rhône-Alps Region ( n  = 800). The heavier the care was, the more respondents preferred hospital care. Willingness to pay for additional taxation per household/month varied from €13.9 for light care in LHC to €19.1 for heavy home care. The small number of protesting respondents and outliers, and the close correlation between preferences, income, and WTP supports the validity of the CVS., Conclusion: In France, for cancer, not all citizens would prefer to be treated at home rather than in a hospital. Only less than a quarter would prefer LHC. These results show the mismatch between public health policies and the citizens' preferences.

In France, cancer treatments are mainly provided in hospitals, which are expensive and crowded. Health decision-makers therefore want to develop alternative structures such as home care and local health centres., Objectives: To elicit cancer patients' preferences for home, local health centre, or hospital, and analyze factors affecting these choices: patients' characteristics, experiences of care, expectations and perceptions of cancer management., Methods: We developed a decision aid composed of 1) information on the 3 options 2) a questionnaire to measure preferences; 3) a questionnaire on sociodemographics and experiences of care, 386 patients participated in the survey., Results: hospital was the preferred option for 71 % of the participants, especially for complicated care, followed by home care (24 %) and local health centres (5%). Main reasons for preferring hospital were the wish to separate home life and place of care, wanting to avoid being a burden on their relatives. Reasons influencing a preference for home care were wanting to avoid trips, maintain their lifestyle, and finding hospitals frightening. Neither socio-demographics nor even experience of care seemed to explain preferences., Conclusion: A quarter of patients preferred home care, which is highly disproportionate to the home care currently available. This suggests that hindrances to developing alternatives to hospital do not come from patients' reluctance to make use of them, but rather from healthcare providers' objections., Competing Interests: Declaration of Competing Interest The authors report no declarations of interest., (Copyright © 2020. Objectives: (1) To explore empirically the extent to which early stage breast cancer patients in France, wish to be informed about their disease and treatments and (2) in view of the statutory duty of physicians to inform patients, to explore, from the patients' point of view, the type of information given by physicians and whether it meets their information needs., Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional survey questionnaire using standardized questions was administered by mail to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and evaluated their relationships with the different physicians involved in their treatment at different points in time. Focus was placed on the relationship between surgeons and patients., Results: Two hundred and thirty-eight patients completed the questionnaire on their relationship with their surgeon. Patients' reported information needs are considerable, though significantly different depending on the item. Patients report that surgeons do not fully respond to their needs. Even though physicians are legally required to provide information to their patients, in routine practice they seem to favour providing information about disease and treatment side effects over treatment consequences, even though patients express a need for information on these latter items., Conclusion: More research is needed on the development, use and outcomes of the various strategies and interventions designed to facilitate and improve information transfer in the physician-patient encounter in France.

Introduction: Patients often search for a second opinion (i.e., a search for additional information on the diagnosis and/or treatment options and the potential prognosis, which will help the patient decide what to do or not to do, where, with whom and how). The scope of this phenomenon is not well documented. Also it is not clear if this is warranted or not. This paper aims to explore whether knowing that his clinician follows practice guidelines eliminates the need of a patient's to seek a second opinion. Given that practice guidelines should allow each patient to benefit from the best current clinical evidence, one might wonder if in such a context a second opinion is still necessary, and if so, for what reasons?, Methods: We review the literature to find the reasons that may prompt a patient to seek a second opinion before the implementation of practice guidelines. We then analyse, from a conceptual point of view, whether for 'informed patient' (i.e., one who knows about and understands practice guidelines) these reasons still hold after the implementation of practice guidelines and if new reasons for seeking a second opinion have emerged. We also discuss practical limitations to searching for a second opinion., Results: We show that even if some reasons, like the search for a second opinion to check whether the treatment prescribed by the first physician is appropriate or not, can be questioned after the implementation of practice guidelines, an 'informed patient' may still wish to seek a second opinion stemming from new reasons which have emerged after the introduction of practice guidelines, e.g., to determine which practice guidelines his physician follows and whether they are appropriate to his case., Summary and Conclusion: We conclude that the implementation of practice guidelines will not eliminate the need for a second opinion consultation. On the contrary, the use of guidelines can even stimulate a broader request for second opinions. This conclusion however needs to be validated in an empirical study.
