Offers the author's views on facial transplantation. The option for reconstructing severe facial injury is being debated because of concern about the side effects from long-term immunosuppression. The Royal College of Surgeons have set criteria for the procedure including informed consent and patient selection. The different surgical techniques that France, Great Britain, and the United States have developed to target different patient groups are mentioned.
