This article presents information on the Battle of Kursk, which is the central event of the summer-autumn campaign of 1943. As a result of the historic victories of the Soviet armed forces in the Battle of Stalingrad and in the winter offensive of 1942/43, strategic initiative went over to the Soviet command. By the summer of 1943, the Soviet Union built up its war industry potential to a considerable extent. Its war industry began supplying the troops with massive amounts of new types of military equipment. The country's greater military-economic capabilities made it possible to meet the needs related to improving the organization of Soviet troops.
