This article discusses various issues related to the component seller doctrine, with specific reference to Section 5 of the Restatement (Third) of Torts: Products Liability. The component seller doctrine, embraced by the Section 5 of the Restatement (Third) of Torts: Products Liability, contemplates that the seller of a non-defective raw or component material, which supplies the material to a manufacturer that combines it with other materials to produce a finished product, will not be held liable in strict liability for a defective finished product or for failure to warn of the dangers associated with the finished product. The article author provides a brief background of the component seller doctrine and discusses Section 5 of the Third Restatement, including application of its underlying principles by Florida courts.
