A study conducted by researchers at the University of Connecticut has found that macroporous hydrogels have significant potential in regenerative medicine. However, traditional methods of producing these hydrogels are not suitable for immediate application. To address this issue, the researchers developed a handheld printer that can generate and deposit hydrogel foams directly onto skin defects, creating defect-specific macroporous scaffolds. The foams demonstrated excellent flexibility and increased cellular activity compared to solid hydrogels in in vitro cell culture. In vivo experiments on mice with full-thickness wounds showed that the printed foam scaffolds enhanced the rate and quality of wound healing. [Extracted from the article]
