The article focuses on several layers of impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. The layers include as the GDPR is a Regulation and there is no transposition requirement as with a Directive there is no official ‘register' of the Member States' efforts in aligning their national laws, and data subjects which undoubtedly have been given a stronger position with GDPR impacted by the Regulation.

An introduction is presented in which the editor discusses various reports within the issue on topics including developments in the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties, and the reform of criminal procedural law in the Netherlands.
