Background: The European Parliament's directive on open data indicates the direction to follow for all public institutions in Europe. The portal Polish Platform of Medical Research (PPM) required more information about researcher attitudes and training requirements for strategic planning. Objectives: The aim was to assess (1) the status of knowledge about research data management among medical researchers in Poland, and (2) their attitudes towards data sharing. This knowledge may help to inform a training program and adapt PPM to the requirements of researchers. Methods: The authors circulated an online survey and received responses from 603 researchers representing medical sciences and related disciplines. The survey was conducted in 2019 at seven Polish medical universities and at the Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine. Analysis used descriptive statistics. Results: Data sharing was not widespread (55.7% only shared with their research team, 9.8% had shared data on an open access basis). Many cited possible benefits of research data sharing but were concerned about drawbacks (e.g. fraud, plagiarism). Discussion: Polish medical scientists, like many researchers, are not aware of the processes required for safe data preparation for sharing. Academic libraries should develop roles for data librarians to help train researchers. Conclusion: Fears about the dangers of data sharing need to be overcome before researchers are willing to share their own research data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ausgehend von den aktuellen Entwicklungen in Deutschland und Europa werden Diskussionen, Initiativen und Projektergebnisse im Bereich des digitalen Datenmanagements vorgestellt. Dabei wird ein besonderer Bezug zu den wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken und deren zukünftige Aufgabenfelder gelegt, die international mit „Data Literacy" und „Data Stewardship" beschrieben werden. In Ergänzung zu „Data Scientists" werden in Zukunft in großer Zahl Experten für das digitale Datenmanagement (sogenannte „Data Stewards") benötigt. Daher haben das Institut für Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und der Fachbereich Informationswissenschaften der Fachhochschule Potsdam gemeinsam den weiterbildenden Masterstudiengang Digitales Datenmanagement konzipiert, der im April 2019 startete. Wie sich dieser Studiengang in die nationalen und internationalen Entwicklungen und Herausforderungen einfügt, ist Gegenstand dieses Artikels. This article provides an overview over discussions, initiatives, and projects in the field of digital data management while taking currents trends and developments in Germany and Europe into consideration. The main foci of the article are new task areas in research libraries, which are internationally recognized by the terms data literacy and data stewardship. In addition to data scientists, a large number of experts for the management of digital data (so-called data stewards) will be needed in the future. This is why the Berlin School for Library and Information Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Faculty for Information Sciences at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam have collaborated in designing a new executive Master program Digital Data Management, which started in April 2019. Data stewardship is a term that is understood in heterogenous ways. In recent organisational developments and efforts to build infrastructures and hire professional staff for research data management in various scientific fields in Europe, data stewardship is understood as mainly aiming at optimising data management in line with the FAIR principles (findability, accessibility, interoperability, reusability) forpurposes of reuse in the interests of the scientific community and the public. In addition, especially in the health and biomedical sciences some understandings of data stewardship mainly focus on the responsibility to respect the informational rights of data subjects. Following on from these different understandings and from recent developments to include ever more stakeholders in data stewardship, we propose a comprehensive understanding of data stewardship. According to this comprehensive understanding, data stewardship includes responsibilities towards all pertinent stakeholders and to equally consider and respect their legitimate rights and interests in order to build and maintain an efficient, trusted and fair data ecosystem. OpenAIRE - Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe - is moving from a publication infrastructure to a more comprehensive infrastructure that covers all types of scientific output.
