Background ESGO (European Society of Gynaecological Oncology) and partners are continually improving the developmental opportunities for gynaecological oncology fellows. The objectives of this survey were to evaluate the progress in the infrastructure of the training systems in Europe over the past decade. We also evaluated training and assessment techniques, the perceived relevance of ENYGO (European Network of Young Gynaecological Oncologists) initiatives, and unmet needs of trainees. Methodology National representatives of ENYGO from 39 countries were contacted with an electronic survey. A graduation in well/moderately/loosely- structured training systems was performed. Descriptive statistical analysis and frequency tables, as well as two- sided Fisher's exact test, were used. Results National representatives from 33 countries answered our survey questionnaire, yielding a response rate of 85%. A national fellowship is offered in 22 countries (66.7%). A logbook to document progress during training is mandatory in 24 (72.7%) countries. A logbook of experience is only utilized in a minority of nations (18%) for assessment purposes. In 42.4% of countries, objective assessments are recognized. Trainees in most countries (22 (66.7%)) requested additional training in advanced laparoscopic surgery. 13 (39.4%) countries have a loosely- structured training system, 11 (33.3%) a moderately- structured training system, and 9 (27.3%) a well- structured training system. Conclusion Since the last publication in 2011, ENYGO was able to implement new activities, workshops, and online education to support training of gynaecological oncology fellows, which were all rated by the respondents as highly useful. This survey also reveals the limitations in establishing more accredited centers, centralized cancer care, and the lack of laparoscopic training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SDN and NFV provide new ways of achieving flexibility in network implementation. We explore the application of SDN/NFV technology to several promising use cases: (1) virtual unbundling in a VDSL vectoring environment; (2) as a complement to 5G's intended ability to simultaneously support multiple use cases; and (3) network sharing between mission-critical services (Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) or rail operations) and commercial mobile operations. We find that the use of SDN/NFV may be especially advantageous where multiple use cases must be simultaneously supported over time, but only if complex resource management challenges can be resolved. Abstract: Background and aims: A recent study reported that a nonsynonymous SNP rs2241880 (c.898A>G, p.Thr300Ala) within ATG16L1 confers susceptibility to Crohn''s disease (CD). We analyzed ATG16L1 c.898A>G in three independent European inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) cohorts from Germany, Hungary and the Netherlands. Methods: In total, we included 910 European IBD patients and compared the ATG16L1 c.898A>G genotype frequency with 707 ethnically matched healthy controls. We included patients from 3 populations originating from Germany (CD n =310; ulcerative colitis [UC] n =179), Hungary (CD n =147; UC n =117), and the Netherlands (CD n =157). Subtyping analysis was performed in respect to CARD15 alterations and clinical characteristics. Results: We found a highly significant association of c.898A>G to CD. The association was significant (p =0.0005) for the total CD cohort but also for the individual populations from Germany (p =0.02) and Netherlands (p =0.02) whereas in the Hungarian CD patients a clear trend was observed (p =0.19; OR 1.227, 95% CI 0.910; 1.654). No association was found between c.898A>G and UC. No statistical interactions were observed between ATG16L1 c.898A>G and CARD15 variants. Furthermore no association to a CD subphenotype was detected. Conclusions: We confirm that ATG16L1 variant c898A>G confers a risk variant for CD but is not associated with a distinct CD phenotype. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Climate change has led to concerns about increasing river floods resulting from the greater water-holding capacity of a warmer atmosphere 1 . These concerns are reinforced by evidence of increasing economic losses associated with flooding in many parts of the world, including Europe 2 . Any changes in river floods would have lasting implications for the design of flood protection measures and flood risk zoning. However, existing studies have been unable to identify a consistent continental-scale climatic-change signal in flood discharge observations in Europe 3 , because of the limited spatial coverage and number of hydrometric stations. Here we demonstrate clear regional patterns of both increases and decreases in observed river flood discharges in the past five decades in Europe, which are manifestations of a changing climate. Our results-arising from the most complete database of European flooding so far-suggest that: increasing autumn and winter rainfall has resulted in increasing floods in northwestern Europe; decreasing precipitation and increasing evaporation have led to decreasing floods in medium and large catchments in southern Europe; and decreasing snow cover and snowmelt, resulting from warmer temperatures, have led to decreasing floods in eastern Europe. Regional flood discharge trends in Europe range from an increase of about 11 per cent per decade to a decrease of 23 per cent. Notwithstanding the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of the observational record, the flood changes identified here are broadly consistent with climate model projections for the next century 4,5 , suggesting that climate-driven changes are already happening and supporting calls for the consideration of climate change in flood risk management.

In skeletal remains, teeth are valuable sources of information regarding age, diet, and health. Dental wear is especially helpful in reconstructions of dietary patterns in populations of varying subsistence. In past societies, teeth have also been used as "a third hand" or as a "tool." The present article examines this type of dental wear and traits attributed to habitual behavior during prehistoric and historic times. Terminology and classification of habitual dental wear are described mainly by appearance, for instance, notching, grooving, cuts, scrapes, and polished surfaces, and their characteristics are illuminated by different case studies. Secondary health effects caused by the extramasticatory use of teeth, such as periapical lesions, tilting, skeletal changes at the temporomandibular joint, chipping, and antemortem tooth loss are also examined. During the examination of extramasticatory dental wear, information should be recorded on morphology, size, frequency, intensity, and location within the dental arch, as well as descriptions and detailed photographic documentation. The advantage of using a low- to medium-resolution microscope in all dental examination is emphasized. By categorizing the wear marks, characteristics are emphasized rather than an exact causing agent. In this way, tentative analogies for the origin of different extramasticatory wear, and consequently for human behavior in the past, can be avoided.
