Abstract

The article discusses the accidents which took place in the petroleum refineries in the U.S. and Europe. It states that the fire accident which occurred at an olefins petroleum plant in Geismar, Louisiana was due to vapor cloud explosion (VCE) rather than a flash fire and reports steam explosion which occurred at Total's Antwerp refinery in Netherlands and resulted in two fatalities. It mentions that seven fatalities were reported at a hydrocracking unit in Anacortes refinery in Washington.
