The authors discuss a study published within the issue which showed that using direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy to treat hepatitis C infection in many European countries is unlikely to have a substantive impact on hepatitis C incidence and prevalence among people who inject drugs (PWID) unless treatment rates are increased. Topics include the implication of the study for many countries, barriers to treatment, and the importance of robust hepatitis surveillance systems.
