The article investigates the growth rate and body condition in relation to group size in Black Widow Tetras, otherwise known as Gymnocorymbus ternetzi, and in Common Goldfish, otherwise known as Carassius auratus, by researchers from Leicestershire, England. Stocking density is a well-publicized factor known to influence fish health and growth rate insofar as overstockibg a tank can negatively affect water quality and food availability. Using growth rate as a marker for health, these studies monitored the growth of Gymnocorymbus ternetzi and Carassius auratus when divided into different group sizes.

The article assesses the effects of feeding a set of amount of food at a variety of meal frequencies on growth parameters of the Common Goldfish and identifies the number of feeds to maximized utilization of the food ration. The study were conducted at the Waltham Aquacentre in Yorkshire, England, where there are 120 Common Goldfish were randomly allocated a feed per day. The result shows that the changes in fish fed 4 feedings per day demonstrated higher growth performance. Therefore, the feeding frequency of 4 times influenced the growth rate of Common Goldfish and resulted the most efficient food utilization.

The article investigates methods for predicting food allowances from body length (BL) in tropical and temperate ornamental fish species by researchers from Leicestershire, England. The researchers attempt to establish simple mathematical models that can predict body weight (BW) from BL in fish. By linking predicted BW with a known energy requirement and energy density of the food, it becomes possible to calculate accurate food allowances. This particularly useful because, although BW cannot easily be determined by owners of ornamental fish, an estimate of body length is usually possible.
