Abstract

The article describes the clinical, virological and pathological findings in two calves born in England in 2008 to cows infected with bluetongue virus (BTV) while pregnant in autumn 2007. Also reported is the existence of bluetongue-associated hydranencephaly. It has been observed that both calves were slow and passive from birth. The fact that BTV ribonucleic acid (RNA) can still be detected in the calves after birth and some time afterwards is noted.
