The article focuses on a study designed to investigate the incidence and prevalence of transsexualism in England and Wales. Transsexualism is defined in various criteria, such as a sense of belonging to the opposite sex and a desire to be accepted by the community as belonging to the opposite sex. It has been reported that the incidence and prevalence of transsexualism are difficult to establish. In this study, a group of 66 transsexuals is reported and data gathering concerning sex, marital status, social class and work maladjustment are given. Calculations show that the behavior of transsexuals relative to marriage is complex. Moreover, the social class distribution shows higher prevalence rate in the lower social classes and high unemployment rate among transsexuals.
