This article focuses on the stoma care nursing in England. Since the inception of stoma care nursing in 1969, the number of nurses and scope of the role has increased, the impetus for development of stoma care services often being the responsibility of the individual stoma care nurse. In Essex, England the stoma care nurses realized that whilst striving towards a common aim of meeting the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of patients, the mode of delivery of their care varied.
