The article explores the relationship between politics, religion and violence. It suggests that the successful coup d'etat in Egypt that resulted in the removal of President Muhammad Morsi has downgraded the condition of Egyptian democracy. It comments on the reaction of the U.S. government to the removal of Morsi. The article also mentions a reaction to the notion that religion is inherently violent.
