This study focused on the profiling of phenolic constituents in 80% methanolic extracts of the leaves of some Jasminum species cultivated in Egypt and their antioxidant activities. Phenolic profiling was performed by total phenolic contents, total flavonoid contents and HPLC-DAD for selected species in comparison to authentic standards. DPPH assay was used to estimate the antioxidant activities of Jasminum azoricum L., Jasminum humile L., Jasminum multiflorum (Burm.f.) Andrew, Jasminum officinale L., Jasminum sambac (Ait) L. "Arabian Nights cultivar" and Jasminum sambac (Ait) L. "Grand Duke of Tuscany cultivar". Jasminum multiflorum showed the highest antioxidant activity among selected species with IC50 of 34.8 µg/ml. J. multiflorum showed high concentrations of hydroxytyrosol, protocatechuic acid, hydroxybenzoic acid, kaempferol-3-O- neohesperidoside, and quercetin-3-O-glucoside with concentrations of 977.1 µg/g, 2224.7 µg/g, 714.8 µg/g, 1738.8 µg/g, and 4356.1 µg/g, respectively. Egypt suffers from freshwater crisis, and the shortage is predicted to become severe by 2025. Egypt is exposed to flash floods, especially in Sinai governorate, causing rapid rises of water in a short amount of time and can trigger other catastrophic hazards associated with damage, danger to human life, properties and environment. Flash floods may be considered a source of water that can be explored to meet the water shortage problem. In this study, a composite flash floods vulnerability index based on an integrated hydro-climatic and physical vulnerability component was created. The composite index was based on eight parameters including rainfall distribution, elevation and slope, flow direction, streams, geomorphological features, soil type and land cover. The composite index was ranked into three categories: high, moderate and low. The index can help identify the weak and strong points to support the decision-making process concerned with water management as an essential prerequisite for Egypt sustainable development. The results revealed that the urban, vegetation cover, loamy sand, sand dunes, the low elevation and the flat areas are the most affected by the flash floods in EL-Arish City in Sinai governorate. 42% of Wadi El-Arish had low vulnerability, 45% moderate vulnerability and 13% high vulnerability. The Qaroun Lake, Wadi El-Rayyan, and Wadi El-Hitan are some of the most promising ecotourism destinations in Egypt due to their natural mineral resources, wildlife, and biodiversity in addition to their historic heritage that dates back to the age of The Pharos. These natural resources should be managed and maintained without affecting the needs of future generations. Land use/land cover change is the most important factor in causing biodiversity loss. Accordingly, the objectives of this study are to identify, quantify, and model future land cover changes using remote sensing and GIS techniques. To fulfill the objectives of the study, a hybrid image classification is employed using the combination of unsupervised and supervised classification methods to detect land cover types. Post-classification comparison is used to map changes in land cover between 2000 and 2017. Markov model is applied to analyze, predict, and simulate future land cover changes from 2017 to 2050. This is in order to safeguard against the adverse effects and negative consequences of land cover changes, preserve the natural resources, and consequently achieve goals of sustainable development. The outcome of this study can provide policy makers and urban planners with the required information regarding the status of the environment and subsequently reduce pressure on natural resources in order to facilitate conservation planning and sustainable development.
