Vietnamiella epiphytica gen. et sp. nov. is described based on the results of integrative research including morphological, ecological, phytogeographical and molecular-genetic studies. Superficially the new taxon is similar to some taxa of Andrewsianthus from which, however, it differs in a number of features including ventral intercalary branching, versus dorsal intercalary branches that commonly change into positively geotropic stolons in Andrewsianthus. Moreover, the closest relative of Vietnamiella, placed in Anastrophyllaceae, was found to be Hattoria, which is strikingly different from Vietnamiella, especially in its entire and cup-shaped leaves. Blepharostoma trichophyllum was found to be a species collectiva formed by several strongly genetically different species. The taxonomic diversity in the group is the possible result of radiation in early stages; then, these taxa likely survived for a long time in similar environmental conditions, which resulted in stasis. Presently, the existing taxa are similar one to another and may be morphologically distinguished with difficulties. The most taxonomically valuable morphological characteristics include oil bodies and cells in the leaf segment features. The most diverse genotypes (the vast majority of which are treated here as distinct species) were found in amphi-Pacific Asia, which may reflect the evolutionary history of the genus or may be the consequence of more profound sampling in the macro-region in comparison with other parts of the Holarctic. Molecular phylogenetic study of the genus Marsupella based on the dataset enriched by morphologically diverse specimens from Pacific Asia, the region with highest diversity of the genus, but still underexplored, reveals three new species: northern Indochinese M. vietnamica Bakalin & Fedosov, sp. nov., strictly Korean M. koreana Bakalin & Fedosov, sp. nov., and disjunctive amphi-Atlantic-amphi-Pacific M. subemarginata Bakalin & Fedosov, sp. nov. Furthermore, obtained results suggest that some infraspecific taxa deserve species level recognition, thus, two new combinations are introduced: Japanese M. patens (N.Kitag.) Bakalin & Fedosov, comb. nov., stat. nov., and East to South-East Asian–Papuasian M. vermiformis (R.M.Schust.) Bakalin & Fedosov, comb. nov., stat. nov. The species status for M. apertifolia is confirmed. The subgeneric system that implies 5 sections within the genus Marsupella (one founded on a new combination) is proposed based on the obtained topology. The key to identify all worldwide recognized Marsupella is provided.
