SUSTAINABLE development ,ENERGY development ,COVID-19 pandemic ,POWER resources ,HEAT exchangers - Abstract
Sustainability has become a broad societal goal, aiming to ensure that human beings coexist safely and harmoniously with nature over a longer time. The influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy is coming to an end. The development and merits of sustainable energy supply, advanced technology, and economic features have received significant attention over the last few decades. However, significant gaps still exist with respect to how to design, construct, and implement hybrid and optimal energy systems with the lowest investment and cost. Since 2002, the Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environment Systems (SDEWES) conferences have become a significant meeting venue for researchers to introduce, discuss, share, and disseminate novel concepts and ideas. This paper presents an overview of published articles in the Special Issues (SIs) dedicated by the series SDEWES conferences, especially those published in Energies recommended by the 16th SDEWES Conference, which was held on 10–15 October 2021 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. This SI in Energies focused on four main topics, including the application of renewable bioenergy, component enhancement in renewable systems, sustainable development for buildings and economic analysis and evaluation for sustainability. The collected papers provide insight into the topics related to recent advances in improving sustainable efficiency, including studies on waste-to-wealth techniques, utilization of hybrid bioenergy systems, heat exchangers and other components for performance enhancement, energy supply and demand analysis, low-temperature DHC systems, techno-economic assessment, and environmental evaluation. This Special Issue originates from the international conference EuCNC 2020 (European Conference on Networks and Communications), which was planned to be held in June 2020 in Dubrovnik (Croatia), but due to the COVID-19 pandemic was changed to an Online Conference. The Technical Programme Chairs of the conference have selected the best papers and invited authors to submit an extended version of their paper, by at least one third of their length. Only the top ranked papers were invited to this Special Issue, in order to fulfil its purpose. The main target was to collect and present quality research contributions in the most recent activities related to systems and networks beyond 5G, already presenting ideas for 6G. Through this Special Issue, the state-of-the-art is presented and the new challenges are highlighted, regarding the latest advances on systems and network perspectives that are already being positioned beyond 5G, bridging as well with the evolution of 5G, including applications and trials. Therefore, the motivation for this Special Issue is to present the latest and finest results on the evolution of research of mobile and wireless communications, coming, but not exclusively (since EuCNC is a conference open to the whole research community), from projects co-financed by the European Commission within its R&D programmes. LANDSCAPE assessment ,LANDSCAPES ,ISLANDS ,RESTRAINING orders - Abstract
This paper aims to present an approach to landscape evaluation, on the example of the island of Jakljan, which is a part of the Elaphiti Islands in the Dubrovnik Neretva County. Special emphasis is placed on the evaluation of natural, cultural, and visual qualities, which were identified in order to direct their protection in future development processes taking into account their role in the landscape. After determining the main qualities, the submodels of individual landscape qualities were determined. Next, the relationship between landscape quality and potential quality degradation was analysed, and a database of spatial data was prepared. Natural qualities included biodiversity valuation and perception of naturalness of the most dominant landscape patterns in this area. Cultural qualities included agricultural landscape evaluation and cultural-historic heritage. Finally, based on the evaluation of the visual units and visually attractive and authentic elements of the landscape and the analysis of visual exposure, a final model of visual landscape qualities was carried out. Evaluation maps were obtained using the GIS tools. The paper pointed out the most important values which must not be lost if the existing character of the space is to be preserved. Purpose -- According to the researchers there are different factors influence visiting and revisiting tourist destination. The paper present the results of the research referring to the customers satisfaction with the elements of tourist offer, as well as the factors important for the first visit and re-visit to the tourist destination Dubrovnik. The aim of the paper is to explore the customers' satisfaction with components of the tourist destination product and importance of chosen factors during the first visit and re-visit to the tourist destination Dubrovnik. Methodology -- For the purpose of this paper the primary research has been carried out in Dubrovnik in 2018. including the sample of 420 tourists. The 25% of tourists have been re-visitors. The questionnaire has had three different groups of questions. The first group of questions referred to the sociodemographic characteristics of respondents, the second to the source of information, third group of questions to the customers' satisfaction with elements of tourist offer and the fourth group of questions referred to the factors important for visiting and re-visiting tourist destination Dubrovnik. Findings -- According to the data which has been collected in Dubrovnik there is no significant difference in customers' satisfaction level with accomodation facilities during the first visit and revisit. The similar situation is in the area of food and restaurants services, entertainment facilities and excursions, but there is a decreasing satisfaction with transport and shopping. It is also visible that the price of the tourist product is not the important element for first time visitors and re-visitors. Reducing the risk of an unsatisfactory experience is important for the first time visitors, and also for re-visitors to tourist destination Dubrovnik. To experience some aspects which were omitted on a previous visit is especially important for re-visitors. The return visitors have pointed out the importance of achieving some experience in a different/ new way and they have stated it as very high priority element. Contribution -- The paper defines new elements important for re-visiting tourist destination Dubrovnik. The results of the primary research and provided recommendations based on the results of the research could be used in planning and creating tourist destination offer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Cables are essential components of the cable‐stayed bridges as they serve as the main load‐bearing component. Hence, continuous monitoring of such cables becomes necessary as they are vulnerable to the fatigue damage induced by dynamic loads. Sensors are attached to the cables to examine the health of the cables; however, these contact‐based sensors can malfunction in harsh weather condition, which makes impossible to estimate the cable health in such unfavorable condition. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a completely noncontact video‐based stay‐cable tension measurement technique where the video is recorded using a moving handheld camera at a significant distance from the structure itself. Here, the cable tension is determined from vibration‐based measurement, but the vibration of the cable recorded in the video includes the true vibration of the cable along with the camera motion. Hence, we amalgamated a series of image processing techniques to nullify the camera movement. First, we detect the camera movement based on the movement of the bridge deck and pylon, which are fixed objects, using Kanade–Lucas–Tomasi (KLT) feature tracking algorithm. Then we nullify the camera movement by using the affine transformation matrix obtained by random sample consensus (RANSAC) algorithm. Subsequently from the steady video, the cable motions are estimated using the phase‐based motion estimation technique. From the time history of the cable vibration, real‐time frequency variations are estimated using Short‐Time Fourier Transform (STFT). Finally, the real‐time tension is determined from this dominant frequency variation history using the taut‐string theory. This paper shows the significant potential of camera‐based sensing techniques in structural health monitoring as the mean estimated tension and the design cable tension are found to be comparable. The Republic of Croatia is a country with significant number and large variety of autochthonous products. In recent years, more attention is paid to the importance of local products and their protection at national and even European level. The aim of the paper is to explore tourists perception towards autochthonous products quality. For the purpose of this paper the primary research in the area of Dubrovnik has been carried out. Autochthonic products in Croatia can be protected by the marks of origin, geographical origin and traditional reputation, so all the types have been included in the research. According to the results of the research, which included the sample of 250 respondents, it is visible that tourists are satisfied with the autochthonous products quality. The tourists which have been included in the research are not satisfied with distribution channels, because of small number of retail outlets. Although they find out that the price is acceptable, there is not always value for money. According to the tourists' opinion some of autochthonous products are well protected, but it is necessary to protect it better in the future and improve all other elements of placement, not only quality. This paper shows methods and results of conservation-restoration treatments on the 18
th century commode. The process at its very beginning brought out to light numerous questions and dilemmas. One of the most important issues was whether to conserve the existing condition or to try to find out what the commode looked like when it was built. The chronology of investigation, scientific and practical activities presented in this paper are the result of a ten-month effort; from the preliminary tests and preventive conservation actions, including material identification, disinfestation, structure stabilization, consolidation, cleaning protocols for removing accumulated dirt and removal of overpainting, continuing with reconstruction of missing carved, profiled and woodturned elements, retouching, varnishing, and ending with the final presentation of results. While designing landfill overburden one of the first problems is finding enough space. To use space to the fullest, it is needed to find the optimal geometry of the landfill (level height, level width and incline of the level). We tend to attain the highest possible incline of the final slope to utilize the space to the fullest. The question arises about maximum incline within tolerances of safety from breaking of the incline or losing mass in body of the landfill. The answer to this question is given in the methods that analyze tension state in ladfill and landfill foundation or calculate safety coefficient. While disposing digging material there is a change in tension,or tension concentration on landfill and landfill foundation. This paper presents stability analysis of working level on outdoor landfill „Dubrava“ on PK „Grivice“ RMU „Banovići“. In this paper we did a comparision of stability analysis with three boundaries balance methods: Morgenstern-Price, Bishop and Janb, with changeable coefficient of pore pressure ru=0.0, ru=0.2 i ru=0.4 and coefficient of critical tension state(SRF) with same pore pressures. Calculation is made by using program Slide which is based on analysis of ground and rock stability and program Phase2 that is based on finite element method in which is integrated Mohor-Columbus breaking criteria that we will be using in this paper. This method of modeling is significant because it provides insight in rock mass or ground behaviour, or landfill behaviour in all phases of disposing. Expected results are approximately same for values of safety coefficient(Fs) and critical factor influencing tension reduction (SRF) only in one point of analysis. Results are showing that for the modeled geometry of landfill, we can achieve incline stability if we dedicate attention to landfill safety from surface and underground waters, and to better preparation of landfill foundation. In this paper, I study the ways in which (im)politeness strategies are used in letters sent by the Republic of Ragusa to its ambassadors in the Bosnian Kingdom during the fifteenth century. The corpus for this research comprises the Lettere di Levante collection, today kept in the Dubrovnik State Archives, Croatia. I aim to determine the politeness strategies that were used in the letters based on the Brown and Levinson framework. The paper focusses on mitigating strategies used when making requests, expressing condolences, offering congratulations and making threats. The research reveals patterns in conversational and written exchanges, whose goal is to be conventionally polite and diplomatic. This research aims to offer insights into intercultural communication in Europe, inter-European influence, and communication patterns in diplomatic discourse and might be of interest to political scientists, historians and diplomats. As the planning profession begins to embrace food and agriculture as important opportunities for sustainable cities and towns, planners are searching for ideas that can be implemented at the local level. Food hubs are gaining popularity as a way to build strong local food systems and healthy communities. Food hubs are innovations in local food systems that serve as an alternative to the conventional food distribution system. Hubs help connect small farmers with local markets and increase food access for local residents. But it is clearly that focusing on the local cuisine as a tourist destination product is worthwhile. Food hub operators are skilled business people who have identified a challenge how to satisfy retail and institutional market demand to source from small and middle size producers and have deftly come up with regionally appropriate solutions that not only result in positive economic outcomes but also provide valuable services to producers and their wider community. Food hub operators represent a new kind of food entrepreneur, one that is increasingly demonstrating a financially sound business model that can be both market and mission driven. This paper examines the importance of the establishment of a food hub for the development of entrepreneurship and innovation in gastronomy, i.e. for the development of the gastronomic offer in Dubrovnik. The survey was conducted in June 2022 among 93 graduates of the School of Tourism and Hospitality to find out their opinion about the establishment of a food hub and whether they are inclined to become its users. Research has proven that most graduates would use food hub services and as such they are necessary for business creation and innovation in the food service industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to design effective responses to the complex phenomenon of overtourism, the tourism carrying capacity (TCC) of a destination is an essential reference point. This paper provides in-depth analysis of this correlation through the case study of Dubrovnik. The study applies a TCC calculation model that is able to quantitatively include the main effects of overtourism. The paper illustrates how these results can be used to automate specific decongestion policies by conceptualising a digital response system for real-time intervention to mitigate the undesirable effects of overtourism. Cruising tourism is becoming increasingly popular, the number of cruises having seen a continuous increase since the 1970s. In Croatia as well there is an upward trend in the number of cruise passengers and ports. Of all Croatian ports, it is the port of Dubrovnik that has had the most calls by foreign cruisers. The paper analyses the available statistical data on the maritime cruise market in Europe with special reference to the Mediterranean countries. In the national context, a presentation of cruise traffic in the port of Dubrovnik is given. Although this type of tourism contributes to the development and improvement of the economy, it also has a negative impact on the environment through air pollution by CO2 emissions, subsequently affecting human health as well. The authors investigate the level of CO2 emissions in the area of the port of Dubrovnik. CO2 emissions were calculated based on cruiser activity, the calculations being based on CO2 emissions for three ship navigation modes - slow steaming on arrival and departure, manoeuvring on arrival and departure, and for a berthed ship. The aim of the research was to provide a better insight in the emission inventories in this area. This research can also be applied to other port areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper represents the first attempt to specifically and comprehensively explore the right of shipwreck (ius naufragii) in medieval Serbia. In the opening section, the wider comparative context is established through an overview of the presence of this legal custom in Europe and the Mediterranean during the ancient and medieval periods. This is followed by a discussion of the available information on its presence in Serbia, which spans the period from the early 14
th to the mid-15th century and includes examples both of its exercise and of regulations by which it was abolished in regard to communities focused on maritime trade -- Venice and Dubrovnik. The final section is dedicated to the examination of its status as a regal right of Serbian medieval rulers and the circumstances and mechanisms of its abolition regarding Venetian and Dubrovnik ships. Summary: This paper explores testamentary law in late medieval Dubrovnik (Ragusa) by analysing the testaments made by notary Thomasinus de Savere, working at Dubrovnik, 1277–1286. De Savere was an educated notary, originating from Reggio Emilia in Italy. He greatly contributed to the spread of doctrinal elements of ius commune in Dubrovnik. In determining the reach of his influence on testamentary law, I will first examine inheritance law in Dubrovnik at the time, followed by an analysis of the testaments De Savere composed for the local population. I will then compare these testaments with the testament De Savere made for himself (1284). The latter differs from the testaments composed for the locals, as it is doctrinally in line with the latest developments of the ius commune. I will discuss the possible reasons and relevance of this difference. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We analysed the status and distribution of the Sage Skipper Muschampia proto (Ochsenheimer, 1808), a rather rare and local Hesperiidae species at the edge of its range in the north-western part of the Balkan peninsula, mainly Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina. In order to determine the species' presence in the region, we mapped the occurrence of its hostplant, Jerusalem Sage Phlomis fruticosa Linnaeus (Lamiaceae). We also summarized all the available knowledge on M. proto in the Balkan Peninsula and provided a literature overview for each country this species has been recorded in so far. In Croatia, the distribution of M. proto is very limited and is located only in the wider surroundings of Dubrovnik city. In the present paper, we also provide the first and only record of M. proto in Bosnia & Herzegovina, from a single locality close to the Croatian border in the Dubrovnik area. Due to its limited distribution in both countries, we propose that the conservation status of the species should be changed from none to vulnerable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
