The article discusses a study on cases of fetal akinesia-hypokinesia deformation (FADS) from 1989 to 2005 in North Jutland, Denmark. Seven children in North Jutland in the period 1989-2005 were found to fulfill the FADS inclusion criteria. While one child was stillborn, the remaining six died within the first 72 hours. The of the children had primary muscle disease, two children had central nervous system (CNS) disease and the remaining two had periventricular leucomalacia and lissencephaly. It is concluded that although the incidence of FADS was 1:15,000, the condition is not especially rare.
