Reports on the proceedings of the 7th European Conference on Applications of Polar Dielectrics, which was organized by the Technical University of Liberec in Liberec, Czech Republic on September 6-9, 2004. The article highlights the life and works of professors Jan Fousek and Václav Janovec. Both professors were born in 1930, have finished their studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, and have taken their doctor of philosophy degree in ferroelectrics at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. Throughout their whole careers, their scientific work was related to the development and progress of Czech physics in the field of ferroelectricity.

The article discusses various reports published within the issue. Articles published within the issue were taken from the XVII Czech -- Polish Seminar held in Znojmo, Czech Republic on May 22-26, 2006. The topics covered include the physics of the ferroelectrics and relaxor ferroelectrics with perovskite structure as well as phase transitions, aspects of ferroelectricity and structural phase transitions.
