This study describes the case of a student with congenital intestinal perforations and her experience with inclusive education in the Czech Republic. She is also a sister of an identical twin with cerebral palsy. The data were gained from semi-structured interviews and bio-graphical narratives of the student during her studies at the grammar school and from her parents. Van Manen's analyses of lived experiences was used to identify important themes for each participant. The overarching themes present in their narratives concerned Lucy's future and the choice of the most appropriate educational environment. The parents' narratives focused more on barriers to inclusive education, benefits of inclusive environments, medical and educational care and family support based on close cooperation with school. For Lucy, the dominant theme was being a sister with a less severe disability and caretaking of her sister. In addition to enhancing the understanding of different needs of a student with congenital malformations and her parents' experiences with inclusive education, it helped us to explore how the specific sibling's constellation within her family and school contexts impacts her personal perspective on life, driven strongly by a wish for independence.

Background: The objective of this study is to explore experiences of Czech mothers caring for children with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities. Methods: Semistructured interviews combined with biographical narration of mothers of children with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities and a short questionnaire for demographic data were used for data collection. Data analyses were carried out according to Van Manen's approach, including defining the main themes and description of the lived experiences of mothers. Findings: The dominant themes that emerged from the interviews were (1) losses and limits, (2) increased demands and exhaustion, (3) worries, (4) challenges connected to help and support, (5) transformation, (6) pleasures with contentment of the child and a small development and (7) functional support. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that mothers of children with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities are at risk of facing many kinds of life difficulties, but the children have also positive impact on the mothers' lives. Relevant professionals and policy makers should be aware of the needs and challenges experienced by this vulnerable population.

Arts-based assessment is an objective measure that incorporates artistic experience or artistic materials into the assessment process and enables to get unique contributions about pupils. The current survey focused on arts-based assessment in the Czech Republic to explore the following issues: how did arts therapists assess suitability of therapy for pupils; which areas of therapeutic process were evaluated and what made the process of arts-based assessments specific in educational institutions. A mixed methods study used a statistical analysis of a survey with "The Practice in Arts Therapies questionnaire" (n = 142 arts therapists) and an inductive analysis of qualitative interviews (n = 10 arts therapists). Results revealed that arts-based assessments were more likely to be characterized by qualitative non-standardized assessments based on observation, analysis of artistic products/artistic process and reflexive techniques and are related to prevalent humanistic orientation. Educational environment influenced the assessments mainly in the content and organization of the process. On this basis, there is a need to support the usage of standardized arts-based assessments and to develop standards for the implementation of arts-based assessment suitable for educational institutions. More advanced training in this area should be included into professional courses and further education of arts therapists.

The purpose of this paper was to better understand the current practice of arts therapy in educational institutions in the Czech Republic comparing it to that in health-care institutions and other working environments. The research goal was to analyze the prevalence of the different fields of arts therapy, the main difficulties of clients, the therapeutic forms, the ways of interdisciplinary cooperation, and the groups of therapists (according to their age and duration of practice). The data collected from the first national survey using "The Practice of Arts Therapies" questionnaire were analyzed with descriptive and inductive statistics (Chi-square test). The 142 respondents who participated in the study were contacted mainly through professional associations. The significant characteristics of arts therapies in educational environments are linked to the diffusion of the respective arts therapy fields (music therapy being the most prevalent), the main difficulties of pupils (learning difficulties/multiple disabilities or no obvious problems), and to the length of practice of the respondents. The results can be used for the creation of a research-based map of Czech arts therapies in educational institutions and for further development of this area.

A growing number of arts therapists around the world work in schools, but information on their practices is limited. The aim of this work is to examine the theoretical influences and therapeutic trends prevalent in Czech educational institutions. Data obtained from 142 respondents were collected using the "Practice of Arts Therapies" questionnaire. Based on a statistical analysis of the responses, the results show that therapists prefer predominantly humanistic trends with a wide range of other therapeutic influences based on assimilative integration tendencies. Contrary to the initial assumptions, it was found that there is little difference in the preferences for trends in different work environments. The results can be used for international comparisons of arts therapies in the educational environment, as they seem to be an important area of interdisciplinary practice associated with education. The article deals with the former US President Bush's plan for the so-called third pillar of the American missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic in the context of American-Iranian and American-Russian relations. We assess the explanatory power of different but interconnected (neo)realist conceptualizations of security dilemma and deterrence. Specifically, the study evaluates the relative importance of classical security dilemma versus imperialist security dilemma and the explanatory power of three different modalities of deterrence. The paper further shows how Iran and Russia balanced the United States. We also argue that the American missile defense system was not primarily motivated by defensive realist worries about security, but rather by an offensive realist struggle for power and gains at the expense of others.
